  • RailFanning With Fasha - What a busy day! I headed out with my buddy for his first ever day of railfanning. I choose the area near the ADM Milling Company just south of the Graham Interlocking on the NS Line, in Charlotte NC. The ATCS showed lots of traffic and we were not disappointed!! Later once traffic was slowing, we toured the spots north on the NS line and were fortunate to catch two fast moving Intermodals to finish out our day ! ! ! Keep in mind the area near the Mill has a lot a transient traffic, so keep you eyes open and items close to you if you setup there.
Regarding the red signal that we saw #238 go through, here is the situation. #238 is a northbound intermodal that normally runs from Atlanta GA to Charleston SC, it doesn't normally come through Charlotte. But because of the flooding earlier this year in SC, that resulted in the trackage normally used from Atlanta to Charleston being washed out, this train was re-routed though Charlotte, up the NS Main Line. It then dropped its train in the Charlotte Yard, did a "run-around" (moving power from one end of train to the other) re-coupled to the train and headed south, to take the R Line to Charleston. With that said, and its train already in the "BLOCK" (area controlled between signals), the BLOCK was "occupied," by the train and not the train and engines. So 238 received permission to past the stop (red) signal and couple to their train.
