Lyrics:
Even on the darkest night when empty promise means empty hand
And soldiers coming home like shadows turning red
When the lights of hope are fading quickly then look to me
I'll be your homing angel, I'll be in your head
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
And there's heat beneath your winter let me in
I see the delta traces living lonely out on the limb
And a passing glimmer warm beneath your skin
Please tread gently on the ground when all around you earth
Turns to fire
Only get a second chance when danger's on the wind
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Must be lucky weather when you find the kind of wind that you need
C'mon show me all the light and shade that made your name
I know you've got it in your head, I've seen that look before
You've built your refuge turns you captive all the same
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's barren in your garden let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Because you're so lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's cold out on your stone range let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Do, do-do, do do do do
Do, do-do, do do do do
Just me who prefers this version and video? 😂❤
I remember I was looking for this version and found it in their video tape it's fantastic. And the way the video clips follow one another
I definitely prefer this one too
The most gorgeous, beautiful lyrics.❤❤❤
A little pearl of DD
I miss the 80s. I didn't realize I was happy then
None of us did
When this video popped up in my feed, I didn't recall it for some reason...but as soon as the vocals started, not only did it come back to me- I could sing along without missing a beat, despite not having heard it for easily 30 years. Such a timeless, lovely track.
Still find this to be absolute perfection. One of Duran Duran's most haunting underrated songs.
It's a favourite of mine.
I agree. Very different to their other tracks and fulfilling in its own way. Has a wistful air that still surprises me.
Couldn’t agree more. How this ended up an afterthought on that album, I’ll never know. It’s a gorgeous song
My absolute favorite...💋💋💋💞💞💞💖💖💖
Only heard it first about 10 years ago--don't know how I missed it....it's exquisite!!
I used to get shit at school for liking Duran Duran mainly coz I was a boy and they were seen as a boy band but I didn’t care. I knew how good they were and this kind of song proves it. It stands the test of time and is much better than anything around today. They looked good, could play their instruments very well and write brilliant songs. And they did it album after album. And I still listen today.
Back in primary school. (grade 7 1984) I used to make fun of 2 girls for their love of Duran Duran. One day one of them gave me their copy of Seven the and Ragged Tiger. Told me to listen to the whole album before criticizing DD again. Ever since then I loved their music! The trick is to listen the music. Not look at the way they are dressed. It's two totally different worlds. They dressed how they had to sell units back then.
I met some of my closest friends through our mutual love of Duran Duran. When we were in junior high and high school we got made fun of daily. Years later I was told by a guy I know "Lori I didnt realize how good they were and are .I didnt like them because girls went gaga over them. I see now they were more than pretty faces": :D :D
Well said! All the best
@@TimeTraveler.981 lovely words. I never much cared what others thought of me but at school it’s even more difficult than the real world. The 70’s and 80’s were very special because you had artists and acts who looked great but also who looked like your geography teacher at school. Look at the 70’s with Rupert Holmes and Escape (the Pina Colada song), Robert John with Sad Eyes, Bertie Higgins (not exactly a superstar name) with Key Largo, yet they put out great music without looking like models. The Gibson Brothers were great but terrible dancers. The music of those decades had life and heart. I do listen to modern music but most of it sounds sadly sterile and cold.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I was 13 in 1982 when I became a fan and my friends used to try to tease me about it. I didn't care at all.
Once Duranie, always Duranie ❤️
too bloody right
I second that notion. Since I was kid. All duran all the time.
YES! HERE! HERE!
I'm a 55 yr. old guy and I LOVE Duran Duran! :D
I fully agree
Screwy Simon!
It's been a privilege to be a Duranie for more than 35 years.
Same
wow!!! I am not "lonely in this nightmare"...40
years listening to these people.
I saw them live in Kansas City in 1984 and it was fantastic! Can't believe it's been almost 40 years!
Something is magical about whole rio album its make me feel so safe and its timeless ❤
Absolutely
Truly their best album and definitely awesome years to be a teenager!
It was an immaculate dream made into sound and vision. David Bowie and Andy Warhol were stunned by its artistic optimism and they became devotes of Duran Duran thereafter.
2:47
I was just thinking that as I was watching this video
My favorite piece ever
An absolute classic
This man's voice is simply indescribable.
Absolutely.
Simon has been compared, by the Rock Press, to a 'Braying Donkey'. That's because they heard this song and saw this video and couldn't even come close to it with all their Beatles and Led Zeppelins. Morton Harket of A-Ha credited Simon Le Bon as one of his greatest influencers and his voice has been called the most versatile in pop music. Simon is a treasure. There was a reason girls and boys fainted at his mere presence.
His voice’s a gift from God!
@@mistreme8341 I feighted surely....
Um, saw them in concert numerous times. I love them dearly but, Simon can’t hold a note live. He’s a great showman and energy does bring the crowd in. This is my fav band of the 80’s. My walls were plastered with them but, truth be told they were great live but, Simon’s singing was underwhelming.
This has to be my favourite Duran Duran song ❤
Mine, too!
This was wonderful back when it was first released, but it's aged magnificently and reaches me now in a deeper and more meaningful way. Such a melancholy, but hope-filled song, rich with longing and wistfulness. No one could sing it better. Simon had such a smooth sound. A perfect piece today.
Amy Rosenkoetter 🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Absolutely_ I was in love with them way back in 1981. This year I have been doing say 2 hrs driving to work a day and have been doubling up on my DD albums with the CD's and singing along in the car and this album is still so smooth-not an average song there! and I agree entirely and passionately with your first and second sentences in particular!
It’s beautiful. The lyrics are just perfection.❤
Essa mulher foi muito sortuda ❤
They really should re-release that tape for Blu-ray. We all wore out our VHS and Beta copies ages ago, and this looks miles better than the bootlegs.
I still have that VHS tape too! I'm old lol
I totally agree. It was the best 'video movie' ever made, in my opinion. Watching the videos all together you could see a narrative. An impressionistic film of romance in travel, love in adventure, loss in the war between the world and true love. I loved the Duran Duran Video Album.
@@mistreme8341 thanks for agreeing with me, and you're right and it's apart of history too. Well I think it is anyway. :)
I always preferred this version.
Exactly ... I have this on laserdisc.
So underrated ❤
Simon is really dreamy in this video.
lunalouhoo yes he is.
He just exudes sexiness. The big blue eyes, large nose, defined jaw.
@@thescarletarcanatarot and his beautiful blonde hair!
IKR
How good looking is Simon! 😉😉
Didn't know about this great track until I picked up the Rio album.
Que rostro tan bello el de Simón bello sensual 💋💋💋💋💋♥️😍 y ♥️😍 y ♥️
These guys were still in their late teens weaving this magic
Let that sink in for a second
They literally had a video for every song on this album except “hood back the rain”… Which happens to be an amazing song. But so is everything from those first 2 albums. And that fretless bass is so haunting…
Hold Back The Rain was one of my favorites as a teen. Wish they made a video for that. Maybe one that showed a few more seconds of Roger and Andy. I love watching all 5 of them, but both Roger and Andy should get a bit more video time. I like that we see more of Roger and Andy in this video than most of them.
Wish someone would join me in my nightmare
One of Rio’s hidden gems. Vastly underrated and still sounds cool and fresh with smokie edges
not enough of John. Needs more John. Can never get enough John.
i agree about not enough John but he is in the official video
I never understood the John fascination. He's ok. Simon was always the hottest member of the band.
Haha. John's the best but I was a Roger girl in my teens.
Duran Duran fan from Japan!!
There's an irony here, surely? 😉
Amazing song and damn, Simon is gorgeous.
I've been listening to this song for over 35 years and this is my first time seeing this video! Cool!
I'm so glad you got a chance to see it! I loved the song too, but when I saw the perfect video for it, I understood that I would be a Duran Duran fan for life. I show this to people and they are floored by it! It is a crime that the idiots in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame keep snubbing the band for Rio. They've never forgiven the band for becoming 'The Fab Five' over 'The Fab Four'. Hell, even Paul McCartney himself likes Duran Duran! It's a crime . . .
Mist Réme thanks! I believe RRHOF will correct their mistake in a few years.
@@rodneykelley2917 I've been waiting for years and lesser bands have leapfrogged over them. Even Depeche Mode got a nomination over Duran Duran and Nick himself could do ALL of the Depeche Mode songs by himself with one hand tied behind his back! I love DM, but they were never an equivalent to Duran Duran in influence.
Same!!
Rodney Kelley we can only hope.
I will never get tired of this album. Best album of the 80’s.
Duran Duran created The New Romance with the New Wave and the 80's fashion.
Carlos Laramurillo You could argue Japan the band did that & they inspired DD greatly, but they carried the torch and brought it to a wider audience!
@@VanielDeeform D D, was not a great process, from the first album The Duran Duran already nominated a musical and visual style in which condensed all the musical trends POP in a single concept, until the Duran Duran (1993 album) or wedding album that had great contributions of the brilliant Warren Cucurullo which joined the sound of the 1990s.
Also Spandau Ballet were in the new romatics scene back then too.
No.
also Roxy Music-Avalon and Bryan Ferry-Boys and Girls lp's
"You felt your refuge turn you captive all the same." Great lyrics. great poetry to be receptive to in third grade.
The fretless bass is just 🔝✌️🔨
John Taylor was the reason I've started to play on bass... ❤️
The dreamiest eyes...
John's fretless bass line is so cool on this song.
This..Hold Back The Rain…New Religion..tremendous deep cuts from Rio.
I love this black and white version which was on the Video Album 1983. That was a great VHS release capturing the clips that made them MTV superstars in the first place.
John Taylor bass line in this tune its out of this world!
Their musicality is wonderful. That bass though, I totally agree.
@christinadoucette4210 My Own way , Hold back the Rain and Río are some other favourites..
It amazes me that UK band can sing without an accent. Lyrics are magical!
One of my favorite Duran Duran songs, thanks so much dad for sharing such amazing and meaningful music with me, looking forward to going to more concerts together. So glad we got to see Duran Duran, something I'll never forget.
Was there not a greater band in the 80’s?
I remember, at 10 years old, being obsessed with them and this album. I didn’t really get the nuance of the lyrics until years later. Now, I can relate to this song, especially this part:
Must be lucky weather when you find the kind of wind that you need
C'mon show me all the light and shade that made your name
I know you've got it in your head, I've seen that look before
You've built your refuge turns you captive all the same
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's barren in your garden let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Wow! Gorgeous thoughts. That’s this song and the band... Gorgeous...
Love Simon and them blue eyes
Yesssssss
The best of the two video versions! Simon...SWOON!! 😍😍😍
The black and white shot of Roger at the end! Be still my heart!
SIMON!!!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MAN!!!! 2.50
Such a beautiful haunting song we can all identify with totally underrated. Lindylou.
Super Beautiful Uplifting Song and Video. Long gone the days of real musicians making real music. Not the today´s Hip-hop and auto-tuned crap!
True, back then music has a better sound because is was made like a piece of art, note by note, not using loops. Back then the technology was in diapers and also expensive, MIDI didn't exist and don't even think about autotunning, way far away.
Now today the technology is better, way cheaper and the music is garbage and the worst of all is that everybody can sound good singing on a record using software like autotune or melodyne.
Long live the 80'S!!!
This version is a wonderful piece of real and deep art. It's so dramatic and mysterious. I adore how all together present themselves- they are gentle, delicate and sensitive. Absolutely stunning and always best dressed.
YESSS THE VERSION W/ THE B&W SHOTS 😍
BEST DD MUSIC VIDEO, makes me feel like I'm 20 again!💞
Actually, to me it looks like an obvious mishmash of different footage from different times, and rather badly put together...
40 years later and this song still kicks arse!
Simón es mi amor platónico se ve increíble bello en este video 💋💋💋💋♥️♥️♥️♥️😍😍😍
Huracan y duran duran lo maximo del planeta tierra
Very beautiful and serene. Simon's voice is magical. And love seeing everyone's handsome face at the end. ❤😊
Yes, a magic voice . Simon i love you
One of the most beautiful songs ever, by any band, anytime...
Should be considered the 80’s “Rock Around The Clock”, the 80’s “Yesterday”.
Yes totally agree.. Beautiful song.. Beautiful.. So lonely in yur nightmare let me in..
I couldn't agree more
They're all beautiful as always, but that last shot of Andy is somehow really fascinating. Don't underestimate the beauty of this Taylor, too!😍☺️
ive never seen this video before, even thiugh ive listened to this a thousand times!
Agreed! As ridiculous is this might sound my heart is still broken that this “real“ version of the band are no longer together. Even after all these years.
H is fighting cancer ! To this day ( 😌)
This remains one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. No song has ever touched me like this one and never will.
Such a great bass line really makes this song take off from the pack!!!
Probably my favourite track from the Rio album.
Me too
I love Duran Duran. Their videos are always a feast for the eyes
Reminds me of my nightmare......wish I had an angel like Simon! They were all so gorgeous back in the day.
They certainly where I thought Simon was the most handsome man on earth the first time I saw him on top the tops back in 1980, it's a life time away and Duran Duran are still going 40+years later brilliant, I reckon there most underrateted band off all time......
Verdade...💖
One of those songs that stays in your head long after you have heard it. Rio had some fine songwriting on it albeit some tracks are now dated but the non-commercial ones like this one remain ageless. The video -night walk out to the beach compliments a perfect setting for the song. Beautiful.
Beautiful song
Hapoy Duran Duran Appreciation Day! ❤
Yes, i let you in, Simon❤❤❤❤
🎵🎼🎧😍I was a Duranie since 81' i was just a little kid and 2019 still love them!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That period of music from 82-83 was very magical to me when I was just primary school kid!
They've been my favorite band since I was 14 yrs old (& I'm pushing 51 now!), nobody's ever come close!
I feel ya. They were our version of the Beatles!!😍 Back in the day there was a certain coolness to listening to them, being a teenager but feeling a bit grown up and a touch a glam 😂
Still lonely in my nightmare after all these years, but this song gives me hope.
Never focused on this until I discovered this DD channel and saw other comments about it: these songs are STRONGLY melodically driven by the bass line, in a way most music isn't. Gaining new appreciation for this layer of the sound
I bet that when they recorded this they would never have thought we would still be loving it 40 years later.
Pure melancholy ❤️❤️❤️
DURAN DURAN=REAL TALENT
Amen!!
Brilliant Song, Brilliant Music Video, Brilliant Band.
Good song.
All I can say is this song is perfection .Duran Duran forever
Flawless album. Underrated by people who just thought they were some “boy band”.
Agreed! They have often been dismissed due to their good looks & style.. however, they are clearly far from being a boy band lyrically & musically..
*Coolest!!! 80's FOREVER!!!*
Thanks! Self Titled and Rio were such a big part of my childhood that they're practically in my dna by now. Fantistic Video!
Nice video, I didn't see before. Back to the eighties....
Los mejores tiempos de Duran Duran. Los amo por siempre
Flat out, one of my absolute favorite songs. Of any band. Period.
Perfect song for me and hubby to use to get ourselves reacquainted with each others bodies. It’s been so lonely in our nightmare. I’m going to finally get to enjoy what’s MINE❤
Back to my adolescence... 💕
I ❤️ this song, video and Simon😊🥰😁
He's a lyrical genius ❤️
LEGEND SONGS
I love this song! I want to cry!!!! 😣😪
I wish they would do this whole album on tour. It is a masterpiece.
So many of the women in Duran Duran’s videos look fairly timeless compared to the usual 80s video girls.
Nice memories! I was 15 years old!
As was I. What an intro into what love could be like, huh?
For me without Duran Duran there is no music. I am very excited about the 2020 album in progress. The day it comes out will be a day of great celebration! ❤❤❤❤❤
Simon has such a baby face and this woman looks so mature :) i hear little resonances of Rio for the 1st time in this song. Love it all.
What a tease for all of us to hear Simon plead 'let me in' hahahaha.
Almost 40 years on and most tracks from Rio (Duran Duran's defining album) including this haunting gem - remain timeless. It's a testament to the quality songwriting they achieved. The night scene where Le Bon approaches the girl is golden! From 1982.
One of my top 10s in both visual and audio.
Just heard this song live and it was supreme!
View of Roger starting at 1:49 😻
What a romantic atmosphere...
3:08 I spent the 80's thinking she was the luckiest woman on earth.
No se puede ser más guapos!y talentosos,lo tienen todo😍
There’s something supernatural about this song, it gets in your bones...so haunting and hot all at once❤️
Always the best band in the world .
