Very cool!
She won't let him lead her down the primrose lane. She knows the ways of the world.
Very interesting. I really enjoy pipe & verse.
Thanks so much! Lots more poetry coming soon!
Enjoyed this video
Glad to hear it!
I didn't know Sir Walter Raleigh was a poet. It is amazing how the pipe can attract different people from different backgrounds I probably would not have known the things you just taught if you didn't have this pipe channel. Have a good one
Thanks for the comment, my friend!
Very pleasant. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing these insights about the person Sir Walter Raleigh. The poem was quite witty.
Love the Sir Walter Raleigh tobacco more than the poem by Sir Walter Raleigh.😊
I am a big fan of SWR tobacco!
You have to try sure Walter at some point! I can buy it in tubs at the food lion at the end of my road.
Great break down of these poems!
Went well with your favorite loaded in my pipe. Some Prince Albert for me tonight! God bless!
@@TheNorthGAPiper Glad you enjoyed the video along with that PA!
Lovely poems and an excellent presentation Steve, with a very nice short analysis of the second poem. I love it! I`ve enjoyed Walter Raleigh tobacco before, but his poem is richer than the tobacco they made in his name😉 Thank you
@@siriuszenith4512 So glad you enjoyed it! The inner English teacher inside this Latin teacher gets to come out with these videos!
Enjoyed the commentary. SWR is my favorite codger blend. And I agree, in a cob is best!
@@T.RyanPerz Thank you! And nice to see another SWR fan!
If Marlowe had rephrased his line to "Come marry me and be my love" he might have had better luck with the maiden. Girls prefer a commitment. The way he put it, he appears to be attempting to get her into an (ahem!) "irregular union."
Love this class, which brings me back to my salad days.
Sir Walter Raleigh was the first pipe tobacco I ever smoked. My first purchase upon college matriculation was a pipe, a pouch of SWR, and a booklet on how to smoke and care for the pipe, all for one dollar.
LOL! You are right that he was trying to beguile her into an "irregular union," something the maiden in Raleigh's poem was about to see through. What a nice memory from your university days, although it is a bit sad to think one could all of that for a mere dollar at one time. Have a great weekend!
Wonderful discussion! Thanks for sharing! I'm currently reading a book of poetry called "Think of Me" by Nicholas Trandahl. Great stuff. I'm going to get back to it. You have a wonderful week!
@@thevillagepathfinder Thank you for your comment! Have a wonderful week as well and enjoy your book!
I never did know that there was so much involved in poetry. I started life as a chemistry major at IU, and then I switched to electrical engineering at Purdue, so I never did have to take any poetry classes. I actually don’t remember taking any English classes. Now I realize why we’re so dull. Lol. I found that very interesting. I am not a fan of Sir Walter Raleigh tobacco, but I did like his poem.
@@JohnsPipeJourney I’m replying to this from Ross-Ade Stadium while watching the opening Purdue football game against Indiana State. My wife and I both earned our undergrad degrees at IU, but our son graduated from Purdue with a degree in Industrial Design, and our daughter is a sophomore there in chemistry. Glad you enjoyed the video! Much more poetry vids to come…
@@PerkinsPipes enjoy the game, my friend
Thank you Steve for giving such thoughtful insights and walking us through both poems. I wonder if Sir Walter was already a poet before taking up the pipe OR did his meandering thoughts while smoking a pipe lead to him becoming a poet? Great video, great series!
@@jamescahill2772 Thanks, James! Glad you enjoyed it!
My ability to comment on poetry is pretty much limited to, 'that sounded good.'
Sir Walter Raleigh what a classic. I usually don't smoke OTC stuff. However, being a burley smoker, I must say Sir Walter Raleigh is a decent smoke and an American classic codger blend.
@@Gipper0075 I do genuinely enjoy the taste, but I also like very much that it is, as you say, an American classic.
