    As a guy in my late 40s experiencing some nerve pain from sciatica and other spinal issues, I'm starting to realize the benefits of suspenders. I tend to only wear them under a scrub top for work. But they're growing on me. I share a love of sturdy work pants. so it was only natural to get the car harry rip stop scrubs when I learned they made them. Love the content. Ill be coming back.

      ...carhartt scrubs...
      Also between trauma shears on a holster, my personal cellphone, work phone, a pocket knife and pens and markers, I too carry a load.

    Always good to hear from you Tom! As a fellow "suspenderee", this video is the exact opposite of "nothing" to me - it is filled with great insights, and some new brands to check out!

      Thanks for joining me! I like the look of the leather Nocona suspenders (and others) but that single point at the back and the resulting start of a wedgie, drives me back to the X-back suspenders, with the Grants Pass S-Penders the best, and Mars (on eBay) good for value. Just one? Go with Grants Pass.

    Proof, Tom, that you can be an absorbing conversationalist no matter the theme. When I did courtroom work, I loved wearing suspenders as part of the "uniform." I would've loved to wear a wig as well, but that's a topic best explored over a bowl or two.

      Ha! That would make an interesting conversation. I have a friend who, if we're watching a movie, will be able to point out a toupee or hairpiece or whatever - boom! I'm just sort of unaware.

    Love the better spenders"grants pass" I think that's how the logo used to be, bought my 1st pair 35ish maybe a little more years ago from a saw shop wore them to death work & play, eventually the elastic started to get a little weak, almost 20 years, so I bought another to break in & been wearing them since, I picked another pair 4-5 years ago just in case something happened to the first pairs, buttons only no clips that'll get you sent home, almost, best ever made hey don't get me wrong the first pair still have a good deal of life left just sort of semi retired, the Y back as you call them are known as single backs to us, my favorite & full range of motion, Thank you will be tuning in more.

    Yet again you've got good timing.
    This is all great knowledge for me, thank you for sharing your insights.
    Haven't worn suspenders in a long time but started to look into getting some.
    I've been getting fed up with belts not working properly and being uncomfortable.

    1.5 years ago I started a job that required dressing up...Suspenders were a game changer for comfort. They fit when you sit... exactly.

    • @NWPipeSmoker

      Suspenders are Part One of the equation, but Part Two is loosely comfortable trousers (which means a size up for me, very un-fashionable).

    Good to see you again on video. Appreciate the talk on suspenders- not only for good information, but to get our minds distracted from the mess of the world for a bit. I hate belts because they dig into me, so I love suspenders. However: (don’t laugh), my wife wants me to wear them under my shirt so I always have to wear a shirt underneath another one when I wear suspenders. Problem is: in Southern California in the summer it’s too hot to wear two shirts all the time. So for the summer I found an elastic hiking belt to wear that doesn’t dig into me. Plus it clips together with like a backpack clip do you don’t have to mess with a buckle and holes and stuff- And! I don’t have to take it off going through TSA at the airport. But it’s not ideal- the elastic loosens up as you say during the day and things can loosen up. Anyways, thanks again for good information and a good pipe chat.

    • @NWPipeSmoker
      @NWPipeSmoker  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad you joined me! I have worn the side-clip suspenders with plastic hardware, designed to go through TSA without setting off alarms, and worn it over an undershirt and under a loose untucked camp shirt (like a Hawai'ian shirt), which worked OK. Loose trousers are a blessing sitting in an airplane.

      I'd like to hear other guys' opinions and experiences on suspenders. I wore trucker (side-clip) suspenders for years, but lately they felt kind of restricting, so have been trying different styles and brands.

    Great video as usual. Thanks so much for all the suspender info Tom. That an issue that so many of us guys need to deal with. I haven't gone that route yet, still using the belt with using a "NOSAGGS" belt underneath. It does well, but there again it's a tight belt hugging my gut. Will need to go the suspender route soon. Thanks Tom!

    The tall grass prairie national preserve is not too far from Augusta ks where those leather suspenders were made. Neat place.
    Wearing pants has always been a problem for me. Im one of those fellas with no rear end, so even when wearing a belt, im constantly pulling them back up. Ive tried various types of suspenders but find them uncomfortable or in the way somehow. I've taken to wearing overalls much of the time. They have their own issues, like the back of my shirt tends to ride up when i bend over. But I'd rather have to pull my shirt back down then be exposing my butt in public constantly 😂. They are cooler in summer than pants also. The air kinda circulates around more freely while walking. As opposed to pants, which don't allow any air movement unless ya leave the fly down. Since i started wearing overalls or bibs as they call them around here, I've noticed that other dudes in bibs will wave or nod at me. Like its a club for guys that have given up on pants.

    I loved wearing braces (button in suspenders for dress slacks) when I was selling mens suits back in college. Thanks for sharing all your findings.
    What material do you use for the bit in your pipe stem? Black vynal tubing?

    • @NWPipeSmoker
      @NWPipeSmoker  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The synergy, I think, is loose trousers with suspenders. Kinda magically-comfortable how they float on you. Yes, black food-grade vinyl tubing, usually used to feed refrigerator icemakers. I've got a few vids way back about how I do that, but basically soak in a mug of hot water for a minute, lick the stem to lube it and slide it on. Way better than rubber softy bits, but a bit more of a mouthful.
