  • Getting set up in position before a big obstacle is basically as hard as the obstacle itself. Today, I was practicing just settling down after doing rear wheel hops. I've got som tips that may help your control when doing nose wheelies or rear wheel hops. Hopefully this can give you some ideas on how to practice and drill even when all you have is a small flat space to train.
T-Shirt giveaway will be announced in the next video and winner chosen 1 week after that. Stay tuned. 😁

Dude, this is one of your best videos, exploring the subtle nuances of hopping! Learning takes many hours of exhausting practice for everybody - nobody learns this overnight. But be careful! I herniated my 4th and 5th lumbar discs during relentless hours of front wheel hopping practice in the 1980's on my SWM. Hopped in my garage all winter trying to learn before anyone was even hopping the rear wheel or connecting front and rear wheel hops. So take breaks often and don't destroy your body!

Thank you and good points. Easy to get over exhausted or strain something.

Excellent video Tom! I agree that properly balanced suspension and proper technique are the key to hops. Lots of other good tips!

I totally stole what you said about static balencing should be a regrouping process in a section and not an anxiety producing process. 👊 Wise words my man!

I was scoring at the MOTA event in IN when you did a lap trying to hop in every section. I’d say you’ve improved a lot! I need to get there as a first year trials rider.

Thanks Dan 👊 Nice to hear where I met you. Honestly though, I think the best strategy is to really focus on turns for quite some time. Now having said that, I get it. Everyone wants to hop. 🤣

Thanks, but If you knew the hours I've spent on this... 😂
It does get easier with the suspension set correctly. Planning a video on hop skills vs suspension

Saw a video tip yesterday for getting more degrees of turn on the nose wheelies. Pull the bike around with your inside foot.
Straight into the garden to test it out. Instant success. 90degree turns now in both directions were as previously I was stuck at less than 45

the better the technique, the less power is needed. Should utilize more suspension rebound. Timing is the key.

It’s great that you have a house with a covered practice area. How did you plan that one?!?
    Another great video!

Thanks Tom! Wasn't even riding bikes when we got the house. 🤣 If I was, I would have liked some wooded acreage 😜

What front and rear tire pressures are you running in this video if you remember?

Usually 4&6. I've been up a little higher as of late for bigger unload moves though like splatters
