I have no idea what this video is about, but youtube recommended so I liked, I watched the whole video, and commented, so hopefully the algorithm helps you out a bit. Much love.
A similar thing happened to Hahnemann Hospital in Philly. It served low-income Philadelphians and 2,000 hospital staff lost their jobs. There were protests and the closing made national news. The behemoth building stands as a monument to the City's failure.
Yep similarly the community has been protesting this closure, patients are understandably very upset. I think that unfortunately the protests may be too little too late
I've known physicians whose programs shut down after finishing the program. Problem reared its head when applying for credentials at other hospitals, no documentation was available from the shut down facility. Despite paper copies of their acheivements, no real-time documents could be obtained. You might ask the program director about this possibility.
Sorry to hear you're going through this. My program (not hospital) closed during the end of my PGY3 year and it was a nightmare finding a transfer program, since our sister program wouldn't absorb us. However, everything still worked out and I'm better off for it. Feel free to reach out if you want to chat or commiserate ;)
No hospital can turn away a patient because they don't have the ability to pay if they show up to the hospital in labor or with an emergency, I think it's important to state that, and most with still provide care for those without insurance! Hospitals close because they are poorly run by greedy CEOs and leadership!
They can actually. But if they do turn people away with out a screening exam, they arent eligible for medicare payments so all of them comply. Its called EMTALA.
either accept like most physicians, work as salary and understand a bit on insurance billing. Or learn exactly how the money flow and insurance credentialing works and be an entrepreneur physician. Healthcare is unique because it has UNLIMITED demand with limited supply / resources. Unlike other services..
This is a wild story, wow!! Matching into number 1 like this is just unbelievable! But hold on, Beth Israel? THE Beth Israel? Is closing? This video is full of shocks. Thank you for this video, and wish you all the best.
Your camera makes you like wide! lol. Even with a bad camera, I’m still subscribing because I’m contemplating going to medical school after I finish my nursing degree
@@paola31. so by telling someone they have a bad angle and their camera makes them look wide is bad? Well you’re WRONG! Because if it were me I’d want someone to tell me that it’s a bad angle and I look wide! Sorry this world is NOT all unicorns and rainbows! You can get over yourself! Because you are basically a bad person for lying to people!!!
I decided to hold off on applying for fellowship give this change, not really clear how merging into a huge program like this is going to impact our fellowship match this year, and because of the decreased capacity I haven’t been able to get the necessary rotations or meet as many people as I would like to foster a strong application
You’re right I mis-spoke. It’s more like millions of dollars. According to my google search, it’s lost $150 million this year alone and reports a loss of $1 billion in the last decade
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and all the best forward at your new hospital !

Thank you for this! I appreciate that perspective
Missed these sit-down talks!! I always appreciate your candid way of sharing the ups and downs of your experiences

Thank you! And yes, Beth Israel is closing. One of the oldest hospitals in NYC. It’s very sad
@@bookworm_md4140 That is so sad. Such a storied name. I rotated through Hahnemann, it's a shame to see.

What is this comment? Not a very nice thing to say to someone else...

@@kennypascoe4752 agree to disagree but hope you have a nice day 😊
@@paola31. no it’s not agree to disagree because YOURE WRONG. and you don’t like the fact I’m calling you out for being wrong and a liar!
Wait, I'm confused. Why aren't the social workers helping patients sign up for insurance? Isn't NY State a safe haven?!
Why did they do that to those new interns........
I wish I had an answer for you
Not quite billions of dollars a day… that would be a trillion dollars in 3 years
Good video
I've heard about this happening before in the past but I haven't experienced this myself
You're not doing a fellowship?

Billions of losses per DAY sounds excessive! Maybe per year?
