Death metal and hardcore are reaching a point where they are cool with eachother, with bands like sanguisugabogg and 200 stab wounds consistently playing hardcore fests and shows with hardcore bands. Also the big older bands in death metal seem to be cool with hardcore at the very least, with Obituary having played LDB Fest this year and Dying Fetus played FYA fest. Deathcore is for sure a genre that is more rooted in hardcore rather than death metal in my opinion. And the hardcore DIY ethos is what is missing from modern deathcore.
