If you haven't had a chance to see a full, professional orchestra yet, it's an astoundingly powerful experience in person that you should have at least once. The music feels alive in a way that no speaker on the planet can reproduce. You feel it from the bottoms of your feet to the very ends of your hair. There's a good reason these things were the original rock concerts.

I've been to several orchestral concerts, including the performance of How to Train Your Dragon, and it's such an amazing experience, 100/10, would recommend
Every time I hear 2:08 I can’t help but smile from ear to ear, it brings back memories from when I was a 7 year old kid watching this in my living room and wishing I could ride toothless.
There will never be a more iconic and epic score in a Dreamworks animated film then this. No composer will ever create a better score for a Dreamworks film then this. This score is simply just one of the best of all time
My God the Crescendo of the Brass section at 2:10 can bring a 40 year old man to tears. Probably one of the greatest sections of music I’ve ever heard. Chills
Never have I heard such elation described in music as 2:08 just. the teary-eyed, breathless realisation of your own success, the victorious freedom, the weightlessness. It really does feel like I'm flying. And it's amazing how unanimous that feeling is while listening to that particular part. How did John Powell manage to capture that so powerfully? Nothing short of magic.
Yeah same for me, if I listen to this part and close my eyes. I feel a kind of Timelapse of my life with al my victories and losses. And then I realize who I am now and where I am now. :)
Every single time I listen to this I hear something new. Today it was the very deep horn(tuba?) that goes down three(?) notes at around 2:11 after the other horns hold their note. Gave me chills when I heard it. three months later edit: listening to this again, I realize that the horn does those same three notes frequently throughout the piece. Yet again I am in awe of all of the tiny, seemingly insignificant parts that make up this incredible music.
I haven’t seen HTTYD in years, but this song reacts to me. A bit of backstory, I’ve lost many years of my life due to depression from past events. Now, after nearly 9-10 years I’ve found my happiness again for life, and this song sums up everything I have had to face, I have approached, and is approaching me this year, the journey of something new but familiar and the hardship I may struggle through. But believing in myself, the love and support from my friends and family, nothing can stop me, nothing will stop me.
Orchestras and bands are sooo under-appreciated and almost always go unrecognized, yet they perform the most incredible, moving pieces such as this. (Of course, major props to the composers - unbelievable talent!)
Imagine all these people have children or grandchildren that grew up with HTTYD and they tell them that they have a whole symphony playing the music that they grew on
I'm literally crying right now. I don't know why, but this music feels like the gates of heaven are opening up for me. I can see so much light and beauty. I can see in my mind. I'm in my 40s so this movie wasn't part of my childhood, but discovering this score through other means & now seeing/ hearing it performed (1st time) by live orchestra makes me lament I'd missed it... because, I was a well-trained French Horn player & my high school had an excellent music program & a ton of talent. Our band director chose some fantastic & sometimes epic pieces for us to perform - one being the theme from "Mr Holland's Opus" & hearing that still brings me chills, the other being the Theme from Robin Hood (the Kevin Costner version), both featuring amazing sections for the Horn. So, I smile wistfully, thinking how fun it would have been to perform this, but also imagining somewhere out there are some lucky talented kids who have probably have.
This music instantly transports me to my childhood self watching this scene for the first time, and I've never been able to recreate that happiness and exhilaration otherwise.
