      54:23 About this, not all of the dragons mentioned in the Book will make an appearance in the Main Trilogy, they have a whole line of dragons that they show in the TV Series side of things as Janci mentioned (though she forgot to mention the Netflix series after Riders and Defenders of Berk😅) and the dragons are categorized of the following: Stoker, Boulderr, Fear, Sharp, Tidal, Mystery and finally..... Strike Class , which is what Toothless is categorized as , known for precision, speed and accuracy❤🤟

    The moment after “You’re not my son” where Stoic nearly faints after he realizes what he just said is possibly the greatest part of the movie to me. They could’ve easily had him be angry and seething but instead they showed how he knew what he said was wrong and was absolutely floored he even said it. Such a great way to have the short temper moment but also show us how much he truly cares about his son deep down

    • @ecyor0
      @ecyor0 ปีที่แล้ว +352

      And such a believable moment too - because so many of us have experienced a version of that where we've done or said something in a moment of anger, immediately regretted it, but now the choice has been made and we feel like we've locked ourselves into the path, even if theoretically all it would take is to immediately change our minds again.

      I think stoic in general, throughout the movies and series, is written as a very believable leader and father. They always do a great job of showing how both sides conflict, why he makes the choices he makes, and the weight of both wanting to be a good parent and having to fight for the survival of his people.

    I have a 43 year old friend who lost a leg in a car accident and I invited him over the house to watch this movie with our wives and he started crying at the end and he said: "You know what really got me? The fact that Toothless also lost a part of his body and was able to accept help from Hiccup and later, Toothless stood by him when he lost his leg. Sharing disabilities made them stronger and now both support each other" Man I lost it 🥲

      I love the fact that they have the main character (2 main characters including Toothless) who loses a limb. Not only because it goes against the cliche of heroes coming out of battle without serious injury, but also to have that representation without making it his entire personality. 22:17 Most dragons are terrified of eels because it makes them sick. In one of the TV series, we see the effects eels have first hand after Toothless, defending Hiccup from vicious eels, ate one. Their senses go ballistic, their shot limit is negated and boosts their breath attack and throws their aggression into overdrive. The only dragon known to intentionally consume eels is the Typhoomerang, which allows it boost its own firepower without the negative effects.

    Fun fact that I feel like not a lot of people know because it’s so hard to see, but in the beginning Dreamworks title screen you can see Toothless fly across the screen in the background. It’s very faint and he’s pitch black in the night sky, but you can see him😁

    Toothless probably learned the word "sorry" from Hiccup saying it every time he crashed into a wall

  • @deadsetondreams1988
    @deadsetondreams1988 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    Spoiler for those who haven't seen this film yet:
    To clarify Janci is correct, Hiccup injured Toothless when he caught him with the net. Then Toothless tried to help Hiccup as he fell and his leg was the closest part of him that he could grasp onto.
    This film is fantastic for how it wasn't afraid to tackle the topic of disability acceptance. Originally they almost didn't keep the ending with Hiccup but the test audience said no keep it! Test audience you are the best. This film was phenomenal to begin with but it was escalated to a whole other level because of how it introduced a younger audience to injuries/ disabilities. Media tends to sometimes showcase disabilities in a negative light sadly, so I'm glad they reversed it for a younger audience.
    The fact that both of them caused each other's injuries makes it a much more powerful message. You can cause injuries to others with your actions through the words you say or through the actions you do, whether you intend to or not. However, what matters is how you address the situation afterward. They took accountability and both helped each other heal and accept the injuries that they each caused.
    Also, them tackling forgiveness and accountability when Toothless was with those around Hiccup and Toothless was powerful as well. Toothless finally started flying calming only after Astrid finally apologized. Then again at the end Toothless only showed them that he had caught Hiccup after Stoic apologized for how he had been acting. Once you finally took accountability for your actions and words, then they were finally rewarded.
    Also, when you were discussing the title: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events came to mind for me. That's the series title but the books each have individual titles

    Fun fact: to train different dragons you have to use different methods, mainly for survival. Toothless takes the longest, due to his high almost adult human level intelligence, much like the skrill.
    Edit: another fun fact. The reason why toothless doesn't look like he does in the books, is because hes a merging of hiccups black riding dragon windwalker, who also has a disability. And book toothless, using Toothless's name, and green eyes.

    26:11 is the best part of the reaction. The movie perfectly designed this moment from the orchestral uplift in the music, the snap and woosh sound effect, and the character development from this act of the movie reaching it's conclusion. It all culminates into a moment that is almost impossible not to feel goosebumps, even watching the clip again 10 years later.

    Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury (a holiday Christmas special)

I recommend it so much because, one, you guys really strongly appreciated the music in the movie, and two, it took my own enjoyment of the movie's music and kicked it up several orders of magnitude.
