Did I just solve the NIN "The Great Destroyer" question???

- A mystery has somewhat riddled me for years: what exactly did Trent Reznor user to process the drum loop in the middle of the NIN song "The Great Destroyer" to cause it such annihilation?
Did he run it through a ton of modular gear?
How about tubes?
What about plugins?
The internet is rife with ideas and theories about what could possibly filter, overdrive, distort, re-filter, and modulate something into sonic oblivion?
I think I know what the drums were processed with....
Great stuff!
You got it! Mystery solved.
Year Zero has some excellent and under appreciated sound design. I have often messed around with modular patches to try and recreate this drum sound, it's nice to know how Trent really did it.
I agree! Really good sound design to amplify pretty good songs. I think this was it, but who knows?
@@Manmademadman I think its gotta be the Sherman. Plus in 2006-2007 when they were working on Year Zero modular options were alot more limited. You can get in the ballpark with modular for sure, but it requires a relatively complicated setup and this just sounds right on the money and its all there in a single piece of gear, I don't think it is a coincidence.
This also sounds like what’s being used on Too Much by Sufjan Stevens!
Good ear, just like always!!!
just ordered a filterbank couple days ago. looks so fun in every video i find.
I hope you love it! Make sure to try running new things into it and trigger it all sorts of different ways (not that I did in the video, but...)
Nailed it! ;-)
Thank you!!!
Sold my Sherman but kept my Mutator. Not industrial like the Sherman, but oh, so trippy. And yeah, one would need two Shermans to do real stereo.
Thanks for the video. Sherman FBs are made for drums!! Own 2 of them. Both currently paired with 3 Moogerfoogers (Clusterflux Ring Mod and Phaser) in a closed feedback loop noise machine feeding a tube guitar amp. Use the CV in/out quite a bit.
Thats a great chain and very capable! Thanks for watching!
Not wanting to brag , but when I first heard that part of the song I instantly thought 'that's a fucking sherman filterbank righ there '
yupyupyupyupyupyup i believe you because metoo
...now I want a filterbank.
That’s wicked
The Sherman can really explode any sounds going into it. Nasty in a hurry!
Awesome video
now do memorabilia & closer to god
...on it!
So sorry mate, not your fault. But why THE F is TH-cam showing me a video with less than 150 views on my homepage and essentially zero subs. YT, stop trying to be Insta!!! Stop screwing our feeds. This is insane. All the best mate. Good luck.
Over 1k subs is essentially zero...? And while I did catch the video relatively early compared to the mainfeed slop that gets pushed out (and I welcome supporting the smaller humble channels who aren't yet creating solely for a paycheck), this is definitely relevant to MY searches - I wonder if it has any relevance to yours? Musician or NIN fan?
Or just, y'know, youtube was supposed to be about exploring videos of ALL kinds.
Wow to be a kid and have nothing to complain about except TH-cam recommendations not being exactly what you want
...do you only want to be shown things lots of other people like?
