I love how real you are in your videos. Watching how you handle mistakes, etc. gives me courage and assurance I can do this, too. Your demeanor is really attractive.
@@ThePaperyCraftery Yup! I like to think of mistakes as Hollywood does when having to repeatedly shoot a scene. Every mis-take is an opportunity to get it right. 😊
I learned about quilling years ago while touring an old house, but never bothered to learn it. Back in December, I needed a winter hobby and decided to learn how to do it. I've been quilling every day since then. I have watched several of your videos for inspiration. This lace heart is so lovely, I'm going to have to try it. Thanks so much for your videos. My motto as of late: Quietly quilling to keep from going quazy...:) Best to you.
You have great patience. The heart is beautiful, great instructions very easy to follow. Just started this fascinating art and this is certainly on my todo list.
Thank you from the UK. I am having a go at this now. It is a bit fiddly but looks amazing. Much appreciated that you have shared this. Just subscribed and cant wait to have a go at my next project. xxx :)
I'm just now learning to the this quilling. Your video is the first i've seen on this style and it's SO pretty! I've always been a fan of filigree so I wasn't surprised to be SO drawn to this. Even though I haven't assembled a complete piece, I have practiced by making many shapes and swirls. I chose to use tacky glue, a little thicker than Elmers glue. Do you think that will work just fine? I do have the needled glue bottle like yours and it's coming through okay, i'm more worried about it holding the quilling shapes together in long run. I'd also love to know why I need to make a outline of a letter before quilling, I mean does it make any real difference? Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it! And thanks for your videos in general, they're interesting and very helpful! ✌😊
Thank you so much for your kind words! It's a great idea to practice making shapes and swirls before jumping into a big piece. As far as glue goes, I alternate between Tacky Glue and Elmer's. In my videos, I mention which glue I am using and why. I mostly save my Tacky Glue for 3D quilling or other projects where adhesion time really matters. I've never had a quilling project fall apart, no matter which glue I choose, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. But if Tacky Glue is your go-to, that's just fine. For more info on quilling glues, you can watch this video 👉 th-cam.com/video/cmfFUvu64Uw/w-d-xo.html For your second question, I find that making the outline first is the better way to get a sharper, crisper finished product when it comes to quilling. If you try to do the inside first, you risk the chance of your design not touching the outline, or going over without you noticing. Often, if you quill the entire inside and then try to put the outside on afterwards, the outline will be wavy or bumpy. There are times where I will do the inside first, but that's usually really small pieces. This is what I have found, but by all means experiment for yourself. I hope all this helps!
I use Elmer's Glue-All in my bottles and for Tacky Glue, I usually squeeze a bit from it's own bottle onto a piece of wax paper and dip right into that. It tends to dry out in the nozzle of the needle nosed bottles in my house 🤷♀️ For more on glue, you can check out this video 👉 th-cam.com/video/cmfFUvu64Uw/w-d-xo.html
Would this technique on wax paper be suitable for a more intricate or floral design? I hate seeing the pattern lines and would prefer to work on wax paper and then glue the finished project to a mat board. Would that work?
You can build any type of quilling design on wax paper, with or without a template underneath as a guide. Just be sure to gently remove your work when you're done like I show in the video to prevent damage.
Framing quilling will definitely keep it safe, but quilling is pretty sturdy. The gray and ivory hearts were made years ago and were just kept in a box in my studio, and they've survived just fine. In fact, I don't think I've ever had any quilling fall apart from lack of glue. It is surprisingly strong!

I am new to this process and when I tried to add glue to my small glue bottle, it just wouldn't pour from the original bottle into the smaller bottle. I was so thick that it was impossible and I ruined the small bottle which I love with the small tip. How can I empty the small bottle filled with some glue and start over and what glue should I use. I tried several brands but they were all the same. Too thick to pour. HELP!!!
I use regular Elmer's Glue-All with the orange nozzle on top. But when I refill my needle nose bottle, I don't try to pour it. Instead just leave the top on the bigger bottle and squeeze it into the smaller one. It might take a little while, but I don't make a mess and it's worth it.
When you're making the double-thick strips for the outline and curves of the lace, you really want the glue to dry all the way so the strips are nice and sturdy. But when you're attaching all the other pieces, you can glue and then pin to keep in place as you move on to the next step. Let dry completely before moving off your work board, though 🙂
The heart measures 4” from side to side of the widest part and is 3” from the center to the bottom point. If you’d like, you can follow the link in the description box to my website and print your own copy of the template 🙂
It will take more time than Tacky Glue, but Tacky Glue can be a bit much for a delicate project like this one. But keep in mind, you only need the smallest amount of glue for quilling so if you think its taking too long to dry, you may be able to use less glue 😊
