M Xubair Ahmed - Mr. Clare's poetry is superior. throughout He cites real poems and his voice is extravagant. He also plays a gentle monster with a huge heart. How could one not adore John Clare?! So true!!
There is so much artistic work behind this show - and it's an excellent show. I applaud all the people who work so hard to make it as wonderful as it is. And I absolutely love how disturbed Mr Dudman looks - I'm sure he enjoys working on all the prothetics and stuff but he seems a bit creeped out too. :D Love it.
Hands down - Penny Dreadful with the story line and all of its characters, gothic poetry, synchronization with the 19th century atmosphere combined with notorious characters is by far my favorite show. There is truly not just one genre which fits to explain this work of art. My other top two are Deadwood and Rome - because of the sets, characters, stories and historical elements.
I am so happy that they strive to not use computer-effects, as much as possible and that their priority is to make practical effects, instead. Very impressive. It looks so much more....well...real, because the effects are technically real.
The makeup and prosthetics and all the amazing artists who put in all those hours on the actors and the actors who put up with it all, is what made it so damn good!!! I'm so sad its over ; (
Such films must be delightful to participate in making, even in the smallest part. Of course it is difficult, yet so creative and with so great results! Magic of cinema, indeed.
It's 2019 and I just finished the series last week. I am so sad it's over. I loved Penny Dreadful so much. Fell in love with Miss Ives, Mr. Chandler, Joan Clayton, Madame Kali, Sembene, Sir Malcolm Murray everyone!
Wow, the ripped torso.@@ Was wondering how they made that! Wonderful to see practical effects in this digital age! SHOWTIME! Please renew this series! It's truly fantastic! All my college buddies are watching and talking about it!
Started watching that show Sleepy Hallow last year, and was terribly disappointed. It showed so much promise at first, but alas, it came off as a product of network television. This show on the other hand, there is something special going on. There are parts that are genuinely creepy and horrifying. The fact that the special effects are practical and not CGI is just icing in the cake.
This show was fantastic but really should of gone atleast another 2 seasons atleast. How fun if we were to see flashbacks of one of Sir Malcolms adventures where he's pursued by the creature from the black lagoon? You could almost do a whole season on just that.lol How about introducing Dr Jekyll and Hyde? Seeing a fight between Frankensteins monster and Hyde would of been epic! Just spouting random ideas , with the point being this show could of gone alot longer with the incredible acting and directing while still keeping it's integrity and fresh takes on classic monsters.
It is the best show I've ever seen get Showtime if you ever like True Blood this puts True Blood to shame sorry HBO but showtimes knocking you out of the ballpark
In the world of the Penny Dreadful, what are these bumps on Sembene's face? Is it some sort of tribal mark? How is it done? And I don't mean by make up, I mean how it would be done in real life.
I watched 'tattoo hunter' and there was a tribe who had crocodile 'bites' on their legs, much in the same vain as Sembene's face. This was done by simply taking a razor blade to the skin and marking them. Then, I think, some kind of sooty stuff or a paste was rubbed in the skin which would cause the scarring. Best bet is to search 'crocodile tribe' or something
It is called scarification and I believe it is done by cutting/burning a pattern into the face to produce raised scars in a pattern. Some tribes did scarification as a coming of age ritual, sometimes it could just be cosmetic, etc, etc. It's not all that different from getting a tattoo except it's a process of cutting the skin instead of injecting ink under it.
John Clare was so deep. the best character of this series. every dialogue delivered, so beautifully. you nailed it, bro. absolute Masterpiece.
I would love to see a spin off with that character in it.

He had amazing scenes. Very poetic and intense. I loved him.
The fact they use very little cgi is what makes it so good.
CGI should compliment practical effects not entirely replace them.
This show deserved way more viewers than it got. Why can't people appreciate quality??
Because no one pays for Showtime
@@quinnthomas8530 i watched on netflix
Penny Dreadful gets the Universal Monsters right. No silly CGI MUMMY bullshit, or cheeky TRUE BLOOD goofiness.

I love these people. I wish I could be on penny dreadful
Mako Knez
Me too, I could even play a tree.
Your profile photo is amazing♥️
Same here.
The Creature is our sympathetic character. I truly learned to love this character.
Hands down the greatest actor to ever portray the creature/ John Clare . I wish he did a solo creature spinoff
A trained theatre actor of extraordinary depth to bring what has always been a comic book creature into ab3 dimensional world finally .
MY GOD THE WRITTING EVERYTHING IS SOOO PERFECT

Whoa.
Just... whoa.
Knowing how much effort you put in every little thing makes me love this show even more, although I think it's impossible.
This show is epic, and it leaves the new show in the dust!

I simply love this show, but I have to ask why is there a Mass Effect 3 song here?
This is amazing! I hate cgi too
Brillante
What happens to the fake likenesses? Are they destroyed by contract? Who would want a fake of their own body laying around a warehouse?
As usual masses crave stars and popcorn more than the art. It's the fate of art. None cared about Shakespeare when he lived.
But what if the guy who plays the vampire has to pee ??
RIP original series
It is the best show I've ever seen get Showtime if you ever like True Blood this puts True Blood to shame sorry HBO but showtimes knocking you out of the ballpark

Love you jony clare 🇹🇷🤗😎
In 2020 we'll have a better one, called City of Angels.
The last season was a complete waste f my time so utterly disappointed
