Rules of the Series (made simple!)
-------------------------------
1. To progress and level skills, I must complete the most recent unlock according to the Skill Guide.
2. I cannot complete a quest if the XP will cause me to skip a skilling unlock. (Levelling is OK from the Quest XP if I don't skip an unlock)
3. If there are multiple unlocks at one level, I must do as many as possible.
For Rule 1:
I can return to previously unlocked methods to train the skill to the next level once the new unlocks have been completed. E.g. 50 Smithing, I must smelt a Mithril Bar and smith a Mithril Dagger before I can level the skill to 51 using any previously unlocked Smithing method, like Smithing Steel Platebodies.
For previously skipped unlocks, instead of making the description 10 paragraphs long - I have made a google document containing the unlocks we've had to skip, why we skipped them at the time and what we need to do to obtain them :)

What makes this series the best, is when you're in the middle of a quest, and then you stumble into a sidequest to train runecrafting for 30 levels before you can go back to the quest. It's so good.
It's an absolute roller-coaster to play haha

So with that impling you might have accidentally caught a baby impling which has a 1/10 chance to drop nothing. Great series btw, been loving it so far.
I think anything that is inside the skillguide in-game for a specific skill should be a hard requirement, like fire tiaras. However, things that incidentally give experience in a skill outside its guide category, like the rune case example in this episode, or things that aren't actually in the in-game guide, should be considered more as a 'soft' requirement and therefore more favorable for backlogging.
I'm sure there are still going to be things that conflict even within hard requirements, and then it's just your discretion, but I think this could help make the decision a little more systematic.
Absolutely. You're right. There a lots of these crossover/soft requirements that don't even make sense haha
Hard requirements are the main source of account progression but I didn't set the rules like that I guess because a) I didn't realise just how convoluted it was going to get and b) if I can do an obscure grind and also do the soft requirement along the way I would like to, not just skip them all!

Yep, this is how I feel! IMO the rune case is really about Construction, it's in the Construction skill guide and not the Runecrafting one, so "skipping" it right now is perfectly acceptable.
Yes I agree with this. But I'd say even less than a soft requirement... Maybe a wish.

being fair to the zamorakians, hide parchment is one of the oldest forms of paper, and was often used instead of, well, paper paper for anything that you wouldn't want ruined by water or insects since it was generally more durable

The lack of guides is what made us talk to each other. I miss it.
Also you could find altars because people were always running to it from the nearest bank. Wouldn't help too much with Zanaris though.

They capped the mining xp at GOTR because too many people were using it as an afk mining method and not playing the minigame as intended, which would in turn cause the game to fail

I, unfortunately, find myself way too busy with the stresses and pressures of adult life to play this beautiful game that I grew up with and fell in love with, but I really look forward to unwinding on an evening catching up on a bit of OSRS content on TH-cam. Your content is so easy going and pleasant. Seeing a notification that there’s another instalment of ‘Skill Guided’ genuinely gives me something to look forward to. I guess the small blessing is that runecraft is pretty self-contained as a skill, so you at least won't be sent on a 89 firemaking wild goose chase or something.

I agree like having to hunt a basilisk head to train rc or fish a big bass etc these random things that progress your account shouldn't be skipped if possible

Oh god I also got Nature Talisman on my ironman for one of the items, ended up safe-spotting leeches in the abyss for mine.
Safe-spotting? Damn I should've tried it more on my main, but I kind of like going in blind on a lot of stuff for entertainment value haha
@FrankGlymes Oh yeah I'm not the best player and was terrified in the abyss (the auto aggro multicombat meant I could die in seconds since I did this before my overheads.) So I just hugged a corner until the ten minute aggro timer went off while crying for my momma lol, thankfully only took a couple hours!
Once you do actually get the rune axe I'd love a full recap of the stuff you skipped and what you can now go and do

True! But combat exp often needed for quests or for hunting a particular item to do individual unlocks rather than bulk supplies for training.
Will be much easier when combat level is higher and more xp available
you didnt ask, but the reason they nerfed guardians of the rift mining so you dont get xp after 250 wasnt because the XP rates were too high, but to stop players from just AFK mining the entire game instead of actually playing the minigame as intended

I haven't played for a while, but I thought you skipped medium pouch at 25 RC. I didn't know that quest gives a free medium pouch. But because of your requirements of getting too much rc xp would allow medium pouch to be skipped.
Yeah it's a weird one there, but I guess we got it through the quest anyway!

At 12:00 you describe the conundrum with the rune display case.
Does it have a runecrafting skill requirement?
Just because it gives runecrafting xp doesn't mean you should have to do it.
You're skill guided not xp-guided. I know part of the schtick was to use and discover unconventional training methods... But if it's not in the skill guide, I don't think you should be bound to them. Maybe just give it an honorable mention to raise awareness and move on?
That's basically what I did, I absolutely agree with you. It does have a RC requirement (14) and does give RC XP but it isn't in the RC skill guide and it isn't really a primary method of levelling RC

11:45 in and I just want to point out that the runecase is not in the Runecrafting guide, so it shouldn't prevent you from training that further anyway. So you could argue that you are not skipping it reeeeaaaally
