I dont know how this happens but when i do kill the dragon at the lake and then talk to him he will tell me about the dragon communion than once you get to the first site of grace in the snow area talk to him, than once you get to godfrey he will be there to help you fight him. Its a huge help in my opinion
People saying you miss-out on Eleonora's Poleblade are wrong. You can just get invaded at the Second Church of Marika and it drops from there I havent done any quests for these people and have 2 Nagakiba and 2 Poleblades
I actually didn’t have to fight him at all. I went to his location in the ravine and I guess he just left the katana right there. Of course, I am pretty far along in the hand by now. Oh well. Free blade for me.
Tried everywhere - been over a year since I played and came back with the DLC and wanted this weapon. This is where it was for me. Pretty sure I did most of his quest and then eventually killed him in the snow area. Found it by this campfire, thank you!
Just so everybody knows if you're like me and you never met this NPC after the beach you can find his sword right in that little tunnel after you take a left out of Merck water cave if he's already died and you've talked to the dude wearing his clothes on mountain top of the Giants
After you do all the Yura stuff you can go back to the spot he's at in this video and his katana is on the ground. I must have done his questline (already beat the game) and went back to find it there!

I just went to the cave outside murkwater and the katana was just lying on the ground. I don’t remember killing him. Maybe I did and just don’t remember
bit of a spoiler but you run into him later in the story ( didn't kill him for sword) but after seeing this video I killed him and you get his full set and I went back to the location in void and sword was on the ground
After you defeat the elden dragon the nagakiba is left next to the sea side ruins where the character once was also.He will the disappear and then nagakiba will be left where he once was standing.
I killed the Samarai npc first sight after the rennala quest and burned the eldree after and went back where the samarai npc was and found his katana lol 😂
Masamune!!!! Only reason I don't want to kill him is I want that damn armor set. You can also find him just chilling under a bridge as well, and don't need to do this fight to summon him.
i never killed him, but after seeing this video i went back, i had killed bloody finger long time ago, and just talked to him in the tunnel. now i am at the fire giant in the story, and am level 125, when i got to where the guy was supposed to be standing, all that was there was a shiny pickup, which was his blade. so somehow he died there.
he doesn´t die, you finished his questline by accident. You probably got invaded by that NPC where he comes and helps you, right? And you probably killed the big black Dragon in da Swamp right after that invasion. You talked to him after all that I guess. So you got through his questline and he drops his Katana as an reward for you.

Ok so I didnt even know this guy existed after killing the invader in the river, then later on in the game I was like "I want the Nagakiba" so I went and killed him in the snow area while he was possessed, only dropped his armor, after getting confused and frustrated I ran around for a bit before going to the murkwater site of grace, the place where Patches is, went north until I came to that overpass is, there are a bunch of floating jellyfish under it, and the katana is on the right, if you are running on torrent its easy to miss, its kinds blocked by a bush TLDR: Go up north with the river where you kill that invader, go to the underpass where jellyfish are, its on the right

Every place I went only the enemy npcs would appear and never yura. He was only at zumor ruins at the snow place and I killed him after doing all the npcs and got only the armor

If you did his questline, the katana is supposed to drop at Altus Plateau. If not and you've already got him to show up at the mountain top. Then the only other way to get the katana is either NG+ or if someone drops it for you :|
i did not do any of his quest and when i went to the jellyfish place he was just dead there, at that point i already fought the person at the church just from exploring so it seems like he dies if you dont talk to him

For anyone hesitating, you still get it if you do his quest. But is his quest important? No. It doesnt lock you out of any ending if you kill him.

If you let him live, progress through the game and come back to the same location the katana will be sitting there in the same spot

Don’t kill him early on do his quest then you’ll get his armour aswell as his sword and cool a** twin blade called elenoras pole blade

Killing him will only net his weapon. Doing his quest will give you his armor and the story of that is actually pretty good and fun.
Can always do it in NG+, not sure why people are so worried about missing a questline on one playtrough

Is this still possible after you find him and do “that” quest in zalmor ruins
i did not do any of his quest and when i went to the jellyfish place he was just dead there, at that point i already fought the person at the church just from exploring so it seems like he dies if you dont talk to him
