Amazing performance, I always regarded the Imps as the underdog against the Minis but to see one holding his own against Locors and Beemers is great to see!
Great start there . But they just pushed you out in the corners , they get away from you but coming into corners you catch them up again, great racing Andy 👍
These three in front are all extremely tail happy as well as yourself judging by the amount of seesawing of the wheel! Great to see the IMP keep up with the bigger & more powerful Fords & BMW!
Went thru a few.. Welded a manifold for 4 mbike 34 mikunis 360 lift cam extracs front rad on family car... Revd to 10, popped cyl heads wheel stands & shredded donuts. Went to IOM to see imp engined sidecars boofing tz 700s in classics. Fun times.
Aaah takes me back to the 70's "Special Saloons" mainly Mini's and a few Imps , guy in an Imp called John Homewood and another guy, think it was Bevan also in an Imp normally won but my brother had a chance to beat them in his Mini if it was wet , happy days ! great driving btw really enjoyed the video thanks :o)
Great video, love your 100% driving style, must be an amazing car to drive and that engine, looked to be reaching to 9000rpm at times. Good to see such varied cars competing so closely, rear engine, front engine, big saloons and small saloons all on track together, great vid, will be watching more of these.
9k revs., still love the sound of an Imp flat out, reminiscences of chasing BMWs up the M6 in the early 70's with a Vic Derrington enhanced 875, nice driving, very intense work to keep up with the bigger engined cars.
Now THIS is Touring car racing!!! I'm all with you - actually shouting GO GO GO COME OOOOON! in front of the laptop does'nt happen often! The Imp looks so much fun on those skinny tires! Thanks, keep these coming, and GO GET THEM!! :D
For sure mate, fearless. Have a look at Hillman imp at Bathurst 2008. You will love it That square car which passes it down the straight is an EH Holden prob about 250 hp ........so no slouch but imp is right there in the tight stuff...Cheers
I'm so glad this fell into my recommendations 9 years later. Seriously great driving. So much quicker than the guys in front going into Druids and Clearways. Are you still racing?
Bloody brilliant bit of racing, proper edge of the seat stuff! Looks like you needed a new windscreen after that, you can see the cracks spreading across through the video.
Just seen this - it's almost like a British type r made years and years earlier.... Great driving..... Seems them tyres are a bit slippery which might have pegged you back a tad? But what an awesome little motor these were when fettled right... Hope you're still giving it some pillock.... This is REAL motorsport
@diaboloseven hi thanks for comments, i came 5th after droping a couple of places due to me buzzing the engine whilst trying to find second gear! no major damage just 4 slightly bent inlet vaves, she kept running but just lost the edge. i editited the video so no one could see my clumsey mistake!
That's what I always told the iRacing guys. You don't lose that much time drifting. Drifting isn't that hard. Tires don't overheat immediately to infinity. iRacing teaches you never to touch the limit. Real life motor racing is limit, limit, limit.
Imp of course, being rear engined, shoots well off the starting line, but what is the secret behind Cortinas, this is not the only in-car video I see them leap off the starting line so well.
Truly good piece of driving and you got away to an excellent start - the BMW and the Fords had a bit more puff than you on the straights, but they never got away - impressive. Did you come in third (I didn't see a flag)? Love the way those Mk I Cortinas pick up their inside front wheel and waggle it about ;-)
I raced imps from early eighties before that Cooper s ,s. both on slicks '. grethem/Hartwell. but let me tell you , minis beat you in the wet . that's with a man behind the wheel . these laps you are seeing are slow com paired the same car on slicks (avons'dunlops'MH.
I raced at Brands and many other circuits on three slicks, two people on an F1 sidecar outfit, of course these laps are slower than anything kitted out with slicks but that's not the point, it was a good bit of racing.
Amazing performance, I always regarded the Imps as the underdog against the Minis but to see one holding his own against Locors and Beemers is great to see!
cool yes they punch weigh above there weight!
The imp very underated car !
agreed
Great start there . But they just pushed you out in the corners , they get away from you but coming into corners you catch them up again, great racing Andy 👍
Fantastic stuff love it can’t beat sound of the imp!
Couldn't agree more!

Sounds beautiful and driven competently and on the edge😊🎉
Superb driving andy, its performances like that that make racing so enjoyable. Thanks for posting it, pure pleasure to watch.
This guy takes ...taking the inside lane to a whole new level.
As well as shows the disadvantages of living in the inside lane.
These three in front are all extremely tail happy as well as yourself judging by the amount of seesawing of the wheel! Great to see the IMP keep up with the bigger & more powerful Fords & BMW!
Absolutely great driving
Love the reving Imps
Great engine
Glad you enjoyed it🙏

That was so exciting, fab, brilliant, edge of seat stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it

Aaah takes me back to the 70's "Special Saloons" mainly Mini's and a few Imps , guy in an Imp called John Homewood and another guy, think it was Bevan also in an Imp normally won but my brother had a chance to beat them in his Mini if it was wet , happy days ! great driving btw really enjoyed the video thanks :o)

Yes 9_000 rpm for sure. A built 998cc Climax Imp (inc Clans and Davrians et al) was red lined at 9_000 back in the 1970s.😀
Christ! I was expecting those rods to join the spectators in the stands!!
they wanted to, but thankfully they all held on!
this time ……
Great vid! Raced Falken Mod Prods in the early 90's. Loved Brands!!
Edge of the seat stuff. Excellent car control. Real racing. Thanks for the upload.
9k revs., still love the sound of an Imp flat out, reminiscences of chasing BMWs up the M6 in the early 70's with a Vic Derrington enhanced 875, nice driving, very intense work to keep up with the bigger engined cars.

No Anti - lock ..no Syncro ...
Poss no Servo on the brakes ...
I have every admiration....
Trying SO HARD....Hope you got a Podium..😊
200Kid
Cripes Andy, what a drive . I love Imps . If only they came with a bigger engine those guys would be in you're rear view mirror.....Cheers
For sure mate, fearless. Have a look at Hillman imp at Bathurst 2008. You will love it That square car which passes it down the straight is an EH Holden prob about 250 hp ........so no slouch but imp is right there in the tight stuff...Cheers
Exciting stuff. Was routing for the little Imp!
I'm so glad this fell into my recommendations 9 years later. Seriously great driving. So much quicker than the guys in front going into Druids and Clearways. Are you still racing?
Super pilote ce Andy ! 👍🇨🇵

kind thanks, but check out james ibbotson 👌
Boy was that intense...
Brilliant....yum yum imps👍😅😅
Amazing racing👌🏽
Great race, is it me or is that crack getting bigger on the windscreen as the race goes on?
Had 3 over the years. Very underated car. Great fun.
Wow great sound ,
Bloody brilliant bit of racing, proper edge of the seat stuff! Looks like you needed a new windscreen after that, you can see the cracks spreading across through the video.
Fantastic ,driving the wheels of the imp .Brilliant....
Holy oversteer Batman! This is brilliant stuff!

Same thing again..Just short of about 200 cc in engine capacity..Wish for that serious lotto win Andy,so i can get back on the scene again.
Nice footage Andy! very engaging :)

andy jones cracking drive!!
Old school all day long, that 60"s bmw 2000 ti is a nice bit of kit too
1800 TI
The good old Roots Group cars were awesom.
Brilliant.👍👍
Nice bit of driving at 4:30 to overtake the cortina.
porpentosa that cortina is a beat fast
Fantastic racing
Excellent, thanks..👍👍👍👍
Nice to see you at the front of the grid!
What was that white car, an Alfa, don't see anything like that in NZ?
nice driving there dude,
that imp had the other
boys worried lol great
little car. alloy block
in the imp yeah ?
Ragging it round the race track. Nice
Don't know how anyone could not like this vid Hellman imp on the second row, nice bit of driving too.
My First Car Was Hillman Imp with Coventry Climax Engine 9000 Rpm All Day
Better driving than the Cortina
You must have massive arms mate, good effort.
Great f***in racing, loved the imp race cars , what engine has she
Cracking stuff!
So do imps oversteer or understeer ??
Yes...

Looks fun! When will you be at Brands this year or were you here for masters?
7:08 Score one intensely embarrassed Mustang, yes?
🤣🤣🤣
MEGA Racing!
love it .......are you watching dad .......thats how to drive an imp :)
Excuse my ignorance it does not look like a 2002 from the rear.
Awesome racing by the way.....
9 years later I see your question, It's an 1800TI if you haven't figured it out by now :-)
truely awesome
Truly good piece of driving and you got away to an excellent start - the BMW and the Fords had a bit more puff than you on the straights, but they never got away - impressive. Did you come in third (I didn't see a flag)?
Love the way those Mk I Cortinas pick up their inside front wheel and waggle it about ;-)
Talk about opposite lock :)
The white car is a 4 door BMW 2000. First type was 1500cc, ...no power,...next an 1800cc, _good for 100 mph,..then a 2000cc, ….excellent car.
hi yes its not a 2002 they are a month too young for htc,(jan1966)
i think its a bmw 1800
I raced imps from early eighties before that Cooper s ,s. both on slicks '. grethem/Hartwell. but let me tell you , minis beat you in the wet . that's with a man behind the wheel . these laps you are seeing are slow com paired the same car on slicks (avons'dunlops'MH.

I feel the transmissions pain
What happened to Brands Hatch, they've missed out the best bits of the circuit?! It's so short round the lap it's a joke.
asked the imp if it wanted some more and it replied in german
One more gear and a few more bhp and it's byeee.
Hi white car is BMW
SorryYOUR rear view mirror...........
A 'racing "imp" ...Fill yer Boots.
