    Hi Austen, hope you are all safe and well, just found you and love your videos on Shelby and Shaynes hair. I'm 51 and it has made my mind up to let my grey hair come through. Once this pandemic is over I'd love to hop across the border from Hartlepool and come to Edinburgh to visit your Salon, big fan of Schwarzkopf products. New Subscriber for sure. Best wishes. Julie x

      Thank you Julie, it’s a great time to start growing out colour as no one is really getting their colour done. Yeh sure it would be great to do your hair. 🙏

    How many levels does it lift please?

    • @AustenThomson
      @AustenThomson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, I think you would get upto 6 levels of lift on hair with no colour on it. I think not that much on tinted hair however there is a new version launching soon with more lifting power.

    Ty for this. Don’t judge, BUT.... with Quarantine, nobody is getting to a salon anytime soon, and I am about to attempt this myself. While I have confidence, I’m just a little bit confused with bleach. Blondes & brunette. Do they all get the same bleach and the shade comes from the TONER? I ask because I have exactly your mannequins hair color. I want sunkissed honey/gold... not WHITE. So again- is that the number of developer you use? Im also going with clay as I read it’s best for freehand? THANK YOU 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

    • @AustenThomson
      @AustenThomson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is many possible outcomes. If your hair colour is natural you will get lift, if you have any previous colour on your hair then the result is mixed if any. The toner depends on the level of lift you would get. It is very unlikely you will get a white result with the clay unless you overlap hair that has already been lifted. Good luck and I hope it turns out. 👍🏼

      @@AustenThomson help needed here as well ;D I watched so many videos and there is still 1 question, most probably the answer is obvious, but I prefer not to have my hair burned :P So, top of the head dark blond (kinda going into reddish, brown), rest is lightened -> medium/light blonde. When putting a bleach, in a balayage technique you should start from the ending going up. Does it work with that kind of hair as well or shall I somehow put it on the roots first and then go down? Greetings from Poland!

    how do I know what developer i would need to mix it with, 12% seems harsh. My roots are light brown? and how long you leave it in?

    • @AustenThomson
      @AustenThomson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      12% is harsh, if you mix it with bleach/pre lightener but this works differently, the clay hardens and stays moist on the inside. I use pre lightener with 1.9% developer in foils and get great lift as it saturated the hair and the foils conduct the heat to lift, but the clay with 12% only gives a max of 7 levels. Obviously watch if overlapping onto old blonde. I get more lift with premium lift with 1.9% in foils than I do with clay 12% freehand. 👍🏼

    Is the clay lightener or crystal gel more effective?

    • @AustenThomson
      @AustenThomson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The clay is defo more effective when it comes to freehand application due to the quick drying technology.

    So does this product not lift a lot? I’m going from using Joyce free play which I loved but I can’t find it anywhere and I loved the amount of lift I got from that so I’m trying to find another clay that lifts as well as or better than that one

    Hi,
    Any advice I'd really appreciate...
    Level 4 base, added highlights lifted to level 6 (orange)
    Dark eyes, warm skin toned, brown chocolatey eye colour, I'm guessing I need to tone on the warmer side with that combination, was thinking Redken eq 06n marrocan Sand? .....
    If not any suggestions I'd really be grateful for.
    Thank you.

    Hi ... Do we have to use a toner after we shampoo in this technique ???

    • @AustenThomson
      @AustenThomson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always going to be a good idea to tone after pre lightening. That would depend on the level of lift and the desired end result.

  • @chrisloen2912
    @chrisloen2912 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you use a higher peroxide with clay lighter ?

    • @AustenThomson
      @AustenThomson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question. It is coating the hair rather than saturating it. With the 12% you would only get a maximum of 7 levels of lift. I use it with 6% sometimes if I only need a couple of shades lift. The product hardens and creates a shell so that it won’t bleed. If I am doing highlights in foils I usually use 2% developer so using 12% freaked me out at first. Obvs don’t overlap onto hair that is already pretty blonde though. Cheers.

    • @AustenThomson
      @AustenThomson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, I wanted the brush thinner at the end. I used one, (maybe Famar?) that was softer and tapered and the blend near the root was easier. 👍🏼
