Love Biggie. This freestyle, on the street, in front of the bodega….it’s so raw. It IS 90’s hip hop. No chains, no money waving, no props, no corny face tats….just a man killin it on the mic in broad daylight. One of the all time greats. RIP Biggie.
If this is when biggie was 17 wouldn't this be 1989?

First off All dude, Music changes over time, it would be boring if it was all the same for the next 20+ years , you sound just like the people that were putting his music down in the 90’s , just let people do what they wanna do , I don’t know why you care so much, culture changes bro. Lil Yachty never said he was the most lyrical rapper ever either, he makes music he enjoys and you’re just hating on him. Hip hop is and always will be great. I could name several different great artists from this generation
One of the clearest examples of a candle burning twice as fast for twice as strong. RIP to BIG.
This is invaluable footage…history captured at the perfect time.
He had a powerful aura even at 17. When you first look at him you don’t think much but when he opens his mouth his whole swag speaks volumes. I’m impressed
You should read the Alchmyst, Diary of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. He touches on living legends like celebrities and how they have the aura that draws people to them. He doesn't talk about B.I.G. but he touches on celebrities like Michael Jackson, etc. Really interesting SCI-FI series of books about legends like this are immortal even after they leave us.
Biggie sounded like his albums irl. Insane.
His voice and confidence at 17 is insane.
He had that flow! RIP biggie
One of the real legends in rap so young and so much power in his voice, just basic beat and the words do the flow. R.I.P B.I.G

Imagine if he'd put all that effort into a job. What a waste.
This 1989 flow is ahead of what we have in 2023.

Edit: Thanks for the likes 👍
Some definitely sounds pre written
@@Xxmeca421xX lol that is not pre written g. You too used to lame ass rappers from this era
@@JayH22 it's a bunch of different pre written lines and then a few off off the head lines.
@@Xxmeca421xX Its same with most freestyles. I dont remember who but somebody explained it that rappers are constantly thinking of rhymes and playing around with rhyme schemes for different words and topics and write the best ones down. In the heat of the moment your brain starts firing off the different rhymes that fit the situation in a battle, it doesnt take away from the freestyling skill at all.
You are just prepared for the battle.
@@Adusti I think it does take away from the skill, freestyle means makin up all of it on the spot completely new, and managing to actually make it work no different than pre-prepared. Think about tupac's hit em up, imagine he randomly bumps into biggie in the street and they start a freestyle battle and he just thinks of hit em up for the first time, and biggie comes up instantly with who shot ya as a comeback. Impossible. Freestyle is nothing but limited/minor modifications to pre-prepared stuff, not completely new and polished masterpieces just flowing in in the moment. That happens extremely rare, with a lot of luck and with only a few words.

Literally lived 1and a half blocks away. Biggie,to my knowledge at the time, sold weed(before crack). When the Jamaicans sold out damn good weed on Underhill Ave between Lincoln place and St. Johns, my friends and I would cop from him. "No shorts!", Biggie would say( shorts mean have exact cash). The Trey and nickel bags had plenty of seeds,so, if you purchased a Trey or a nickel, chances were you would get 3 or 5 joints. I only knew of him only because of weed. My friends in the neighborhood bought his weed as a last resort because several blocks away on Underhill Ave had the good shit, and when they ran out - no disrespect to Biggie, we had no choice but to cop from him.
