She told me: live, live, live! It was death. Del Mito - Jaime Sabines
Probably my favorite depiction of death. It embodies apathy and silence. Much like the bodies that are laid to rest, the soul will forever rest in the desert. Uncaring, unflinching, unknowing, unbothered.
Listening to this to sleep is so soothing. Its like an empty void that you can just close your eyes to forever. I wouldnt mind it if the afterlife sounded like this
only found out about Mark's work recently after his passing, it's really been a real inspiration lately and incredibly rewarding digging through lots of his lectures and talks. planning on picking up some books soon, and strongly recommend him to anyone else here. a unique and necessary voice for our current times. and then to discover this, what a meeting of worlds. thank you. may he rest in peace
With many of The Caretaker's albums here on TH-cam, there are timestamps to make a checkpoint for every new piece in each album. This one lacks any sort of checkpoint.
My theory is that it lacks checkpoints because the person is already dead and wandering, no gradual decline.. just vast nothingness. Traversing an empty expanse wondering what’s become of anything.
Well, I mean, this was a live performance in collaboration with Ivan Seal and Weirdcore; I'd say that's probably the best explanation. It's all one piece that was performed live.
I think that it adds to the aesthetic of the album. There is no checkpoint in death, you don't look forward or anticipate anything. You simply float in an empty void unaware of your surroundings. Forever. Without clear end in sight.
I see the top face as more of a grandfather/grandmother figure? With the two below and on either side of it are parents of the clear baby in the middle. The two side figures are too mature looking to be children, imo
This feels like the musical equivalent of the sinking feeling you get deep in your gut upon those first few seconds you are given the news that someone you care about has died.
I personally think this portrays a grim depiction of death, an empty, never ending, hollow void, a cold desert with nothing and no one, absolute solitude, nothingness in all directions for all of eternity. I don’t see why this piece is getting such hate from people, if it’s purpose is to depict death it does it remarkably well
@@mmrchive Even though the video that this quote was from is ostensibly funny, in this context, that quote just feels so haunted. It doesn't feel like a joke anymore.

i can’t put into words how utterly beautiful this is. it’s so strangely calming. it makes me cry, but i have no reason to. it’s just raw emotion, and it’s beautiful.
it’s also such an accurate representation of what is like going through grief. it’s just empty, scary, and full of bitter sweet sounds of memories. people try to talk to you, but it’s just noise.
If you look at the painting, it looks like a parent figure attending to their children. The children sit upon a platform for which the parent supports but the parent also feels the children are a great part of it and are a grounding for the parent's life. But, look at the head on the parent. On the right is a shadowy head of a someone looking as if they are crying out in agony. This is the conscious of the parent yet the parent mostly keeps the children looking down at the ground, and to not look at the problems of their parent. Knowing that Mark was a father and a man who took his own life makes this art piece surreal and disturbing.

I am a person with mental disorders, and these same ones have led me to develop multiple psychotic episodes where I almost become attentive to my life. I can assure you, that is the sound of my mind when it goes blank with fear knowing that a psychotic episode is coming again.

I don't really see this as a part of the EATEOT timeline. I just see this as a tribute and nothing more. If I really had to come up with a way to work it into a narrative, I would think this is a direct mirror of the real events; the Caretaker is grieving over a recently lost loved one. If it absolutely needs to be part of the timeline, I think it'd be before or near the start of EATEOT. Either before or between the first two stages. Anything later and the Caretaker would be too deteriorated to properly grieve

I wouldnt mind it if the afterlife sounded like this
So empty... cold and devoid? No thanks. I like the music, but not for all eternity.
@@charliekill88 understandable have a great day

this is kinda nice, but EATEOT? HELLL NO

only found out about Mark's work recently after his passing, it's really been a real inspiration lately and incredibly rewarding digging through lots of his lectures and talks. planning on picking up some books soon, and strongly recommend him to anyone else here. a unique and necessary voice for our current times. and then to discover this, what a meeting of worlds. thank you. may he rest in peace

There's no checkpoint because it's a single track.
Mark was 48 and a half years old when he passed and the album is 48 and a half minutes long.
if you ever get lonely, just don't. cause then you'll just start leaving the cordless phone in the fridge and the car keys in the bread drawer

It’s quite sweet actually
I see the top face as more of a grandfather/grandmother figure? With the two below and on either side of it are parents of the clear baby in the middle. The two side figures are too mature looking to be children, imo
Bennett G. Paton
Oh your right!
I don’t see why this piece is getting such hate from people, if it’s purpose is to depict death it does it remarkably well
She's a bitter mule; unforgiving and cold. She won't have a bedtime story prepared; so, bring your own.

i can’t put into words how utterly beautiful this is. it’s so strangely calming. it makes me cry, but i have no reason to. it’s just raw emotion, and it’s beautiful.
it’s also such an accurate representation of what is like going through grief. it’s just empty, scary, and full of bitter sweet sounds of memories. people try to talk to you, but it’s just noise.
Its just white noise

@@boiwhat5421 it’s just exactly what my head sounded like to me when i was going through grief myself. it just hit something deep within me.
NGL after EATEOT this is kinda soul-cleansing.
My cat just passed from an infection and this track somehow really resonated with me. I checked it out after finishing EATEOT yesterday. It really helped me get my mind off my cat.. I miss him a lot. He was a happy guy though and he lived a fulfilling life. May he rest in peace. This track is amazing. Somehow, the melancholy is what I needed to hear today.

Considering this is dedicated to the late, great Mark Fisher, this might not be an album per se about death. This might be an album about life, our own life in the modern episteme, in the "end of history".
