What an eye-opener. As agricultural consumers, we don't realize what it takes to irrigate farm crops. Kudos to you for responding and taking time from your farm to assist the community. Your effort saved community treatment costs and alleviated the potential rise of food prices.
we all said what a great machine operator you are ,we now see how your talents can benefit agriculture hopefully it benefits your pocket book as well you deserve it 🌟🌟
Everything about this is fantastic. Service to the communities and farmers. Another customer for you. Environment. Another video. I bet you are permanently in their "rolodex".
Great side job, Mark. A valuable service provided to the water district at a much better price than what they were doing. This makes you a part of the whole agricultural system greatful to have you. 🙏
Answering a call for help in the community where possible, will I'm sure have a knock-on effect should you also request help in an emergency. Great job Marc. 👏👏
Mark i was down under one year and i watched some Aussies clean huge tracks of land of trees with a couple D-9 cats. They pulled in tandem...took out huge trees with that chain system. and when i asked what about trees.. they push into piles and burn them they said.. they used a chain with Spikes on it. Kinda like a jack you know the little jacks boys and girls play with years ago? a jack and a ball?.... If you made a cross cut it where it meets in the middle weld it to the chain and then pull that across... or down the canal..... put one half cross...every..... say foot... that would tear up all algae sure it would tear up bottom too but isn't that the name of the game.. tear out algae and its roots? just trying to help my friend. awesome work You rock!!.
I'd modify that chain by welding some hooks onto its bottom side.. as the chains probably only loosen a small amount on the bottom of the canal. Good side gig for some extras cash flow ...
Great job, Yes this is one of those things that go unchecked & or unnoticed by many.. By making a good showing you will be called back later on no doubt.. 1st watch of channel
Recently I saw a video talking about water shortage in Utah, now I know what's at the root of the problem - algae. When I lived in country outside of Austin, TX, we had the pond dug out so it would hold more water and stocked it the fish ( Bass & Perch) By the three year it was covered with algae. Local Fish & Game suggested a certain fish that ate it. It worked in our pond but I don't think fish in a canal would work. Thanks for sharing Marc, that was very interesting.
And... Nice extra income for your family. Maybe a regular source?? I'll have to ask my sister if they have to clear algae in their canals around the south Sacramento area. Learned something new again. Your skills just amaze me...
I always do that on my truck and trailers. I feel that it keep the battery topped off better then if you don't do that. Before started doing this, I had to charge the battery about once a week. Also here in Wyoming we are having the same problem. This year has been crazy dry and hot here.
We also do that on our trailers. The only thing we added was a shut off switch in the truck so that at the end of the day or weekends we shut that circuit to the trailer battery off.
An unbelievible amount of stuff down at that dam. How long has the canal been left unworked or not dredged, good job and much needed. Thanks for posting....
It gets dredged every spring or fall when the water is out. They usually have it scraped and the overburden pulled out, but once the water goes in and the temps go up, then the algae grows, as do the grasses and things along the banks.
With the wiring. Run a wire from the auxiliary truck circuit to a high amp relay then run a large capacity wire from the truck battery to the solenoid then from the solenoid to the trailer. When the truck is off the solenoid will disconnect power to the trailer and protect the truck battery. When the truck is running the line to the trailer will be hot. No flat battery when the truck is off and trailer battery charges when truck is on. Best of both worlds.
The Norwegians use a ditch cleaning system to clear out their ditches and irrigation canals. It sprays the excess onto adjacent fields to recycle it as fertilizer. It might be something to look into if this becomes a regular thing. Tractorspotter has some clips of it in operation.
I’ve seen a product that works like an RV solar charger that detects the vehicle voltage when running and will charge the battery. It is a sort of isolation, charge controller. It would just wire inline to the trailer battery.
Re; keeping your trailer battery charged you should consider installing a simple diode of suitable capacity, installed to allow current to flow in one direction, to the trailer battery.
Mark you may already do this and im thinking you are going with the flow does it make a difference to go against the flow my thinking is the weeds are already bent over with the water flow and going against the flow would let get more of the weeds pulled im just doing arm chair thanking great video keep up the good work
First of all, your style is fine, you are not RPR, you don't have to copy they not compare yourself to them. You have your own voice/style, plus variety is the spice of life as they say. Regarding the charging wire for the trailer battery, is there some way to have it run on a circuit that's only live while the truck is running?
Think about the chemicals that guy using to treat the canals not this guy the guy that he's going to do the project for that's going to all of our food and all that stuff
The water is always going, and there are screens between areas that I could see the fish getting sucked into and getting stuck and dying. But I really don't know.
On the day you Americans understand that nature is not only made of artificial fertilisers, you no longer have to carry out such sewer cleanings with machines!
So, just yes or no will do, but do you get paid for this work? Because quite honestly, I am getting sick and tired of people looking to get my labour and talents for free... Or is giving back to the community a thing for you? Just curious where you stand on this.
yes, this is a job I was paid for doing. I also feel it’s important to support my community where it applies. so I made time to help out. They needed some immediate action and the farmers needed the water. It usually takes a bit to get me off the mountain to work for others with so much on my own plate but in this case, I could spare a couple days a week to help them get the water they needed, and though it was interesting enough to share. :)
In the video, I mentioned the price of the algae treatment, and I charge an hourly rate for any job I take, but it's less than the 90K that was already spent, way less.
Algae can make a wonderful livestock feed supplement, unfortunately if this algae is grown in conventional field crop canals it’s probably toxic from chemical fertilizer run off
Why is this Algee growing??? Leaching Fertilizers!! At that point it's pollution!! As a people we need (US/Canada) need to take a good hard look at how we grow food in soils are dead and no amount a fertilizer are going to change that. Big changes would also help water issues and climate change in a very impactful way. Thank you for preventing more chemicals to get in the environment.
We had hot temperatures that heated up the water and that grew algae. It was over 56 miles and sometimes it hard to combat it. But this method worked great. I was happy to help and be a part of this contract.
What an eye-opener. As agricultural consumers, we don't realize what it takes to irrigate farm crops. Kudos to you for responding and taking time from your farm to assist the community. Your effort saved community treatment costs and alleviated the potential rise of food prices.
I hope you were paid handsomely for your efforts.
Just what I was thinking big job
Yeah he could learn to spell with that money
Wow well done Sir Mark the farmers will be great full
Good afternoon !!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
we all said what a great machine operator you are ,we now see how your talents can benefit agriculture hopefully it benefits your pocket book as well you deserve it 🌟🌟
Well done, Mark, another string in the bow for you and your excavator. Greetings from Perth, West Australia. Cheers, Frank.
What a fantastic job you do with your excavator. You saved them a lot of money, but it helps your family 😊.
Everything about this is fantastic. Service to the communities and farmers. Another customer for you. Environment. Another video. I bet you are permanently in their "rolodex".
You definitely did an awesome job, Kudos to you 👏.
I always learn something watching you work. Thanks.
Awesome, a lot of wear on them track pins but did a great job !
WoW! You were busy! Great job! Waiting on you to get back to the ranch! 😀👍❤️🚂💨💨💨💨💨🚙
Absolutely amazing to see all that algae growing in the canal. And just as amazing was watching the process of the removal. Great work great video!
Interesting job Mark hope you made a few bucks ,,you can put towards things on the farm stay safe cheers ❤️🙏💰👍🤕
I'll bet you'll be called in the future to help them out again. Good job.
That is basically what i said in my comment, by making a good showing of the efforts etc... Make it good, always a good word.
Great side job, Mark.

Have a great week!❤
That's great to see this work so well on the canal.
Awesome !!!!! 😊🙏👍❤️
Here he comes to save the day!!!! Good work Marc. Massive undertaking but awesome to see such positive results from it
Well done.
Fascinating. Thanks.
You officially achievef hero status on this one!!

Just proves how good your beam works . I wonder if they copy your design .
That stuff makes terrific compost

The years we have algae blooms, its miserable! Your effort was well appreciated I'm sure by one and all! Good Job Mark!
❤wow, great job done🙏🙂
I hope you put a good chunk of change in your pocket, you earned it! TH-cam only pays so much!
I hope your project account got a great boost from providing this service. Great Job

Wow a real live Super Hero to those farmers. With the rain we had this week I'm sure you diverted a disaster.
Marc, They offered you a contract I hope.
Mark, if you tried to drag a canal in South Florida you would pull up a ton of stolen cars.
😂😂 wouldn’t that be a crazy surprise hahaha
just shows how far back in time America is come to Netherlands to learn how maintain water ways
I’ve seen a product that works like an RV solar charger that detects the vehicle voltage when running and will charge the battery. It is a sort of isolation, charge controller. It would just wire inline to the trailer battery.
At least they have water.
you need a split load relay to prevent backflow and protect vehicle battery same as RVs
Good job!....AMAZING!.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Well done sir ❤❤❤❤❤
Didn't know weed was legal there😁 awesome job cowboy
Cool video
Marc, I wonder if there’s any livestock you could feed that to or any other agricultural uses like fertilizer maybe? 🤷♂️
When you get cleaned out, rye straw bales will. Naturally kill algae in water and not harm animals
Wow!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤩
You should see if they'll let you have a dump truck load or tow of that algae...bet it'd make a great fertilizer.
Re; keeping your trailer battery charged you should consider installing a simple diode of suitable capacity, installed to allow current to flow in one direction, to the trailer battery.
Alge is natures way of reacting to a surplus of nitrogen. it's a filter but a nuisance at the same time.
👍 Cool $$$

Regarding the charging wire for the trailer battery, is there some way to have it run on a circuit that's only live while the truck is running?
Can that stuff be eaten by some of the critters?
You should see if you can use that for compost.
That weed looks like hydrilla 😮
Make that money broh.
What exactly is dragging the chain doing stirring up the algae to help kill it.
Its actually uprooting the algae and pulling out of the bottom of the canal. Thats why is was piling up at the screen.
can't you have a switch to turn the connection off when it might be draining the trick battery?
Get a bluesea automatic charging relay, it solves your two battery problem.
You might need to put a resistor to it, otherwise it will fry the thin trailer plug and its wire.
Now that’s a strange job, but a must needed one. Do they use the vegetation for compost?
I don't know what the company does with it. I hope they compost it:)
Can they till that algae into the soil asa soil enrichment material or something?
We are not sure what they do with the algae after it's been piled up like that.
👍🙋♀️
Think about the chemicals that guy using to treat the canals not this guy the guy that he's going to do the project for that's going to all of our food and all that stuff
Any reason why they do not stock the canal with grass carp?
The water is always going, and there are screens between areas that I could see the fish getting sucked into and getting stuck and dying. But I really don't know.
hey is it possible to put up a video on how that weed screen works at the pump station ?
I think when I’m up there again it would be cool to video it and explain it for sure.
On the day you Americans understand that nature is not only made of artificial fertilisers, you no longer have to carry out such sewer cleanings with machines!

What we learn . Interesting stuff…
Is there a time of year when the canal doesn't have running water?
I'm unsure. The water comes from Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah.
How much did you charge a day for clearing the ditch was it a lot cheaper than algicide and running the pumps?
In the video, I mentioned the price of the algae treatment, and I charge an hourly rate for any job I take, but it's less than the 90K that was already spent, way less.

Could the algae be used in animal feed or mulched for fertilizer
Not sure what they did with it. I was there as a contractor.
I’m sure that you don’t care about what I think, but I skipped ahead about the 1st 7 minutes to get to the real video
Thank you for letting me know.
And all them chemicals go rt to us nice
It's hard to tell; this contract I took over the summer that allowed me to film.
LOL
17 minutes of jibber-jabber .
how inefficient
