you can also make your own custom marking menus with the things you use the most. ctrl shift click a command in the menu to add it to your shelf. open up marking menu preferences and then drag them from the shelf to where you want them. assign them and they will pop up when you use them.
Bro, been modeling for years. I never knew about all of these contextual menus. I mean, I've seen them, but never investigated them. Some of these are great. Thanks.
This tutorial will never get old. This is the 3rd time i am coming here and i am picking up new things from here . My journey into modelling is slow but that's the way i want it to be.
My favorite tool is holding shift and ctrl and sliding edges and vertices with constraints. In fact my mouse has a hot key for it. Other nifty trick. Hold control and move your mouse left and right over a value in the control panel. It will change values in decimals. Also, when rotating an object. If you drag your mouse further from the selected object it used to rotate slower. I don’t know if this feature still works.
I love this software. It feels so snappy and build for speed. You can get this fast in 3Ds max but you need so many shortcuts. Just the repeat button is a game changer.
Couple of little speedups. If you want to use 'Append Polygon Tool' more than once, you can hit 'y' after the first face is created, to prime the tool for making another face. Quicker than exiting the tool and hitting 'g'. Also to set up the object level tools like 'Insert Edge Loop Tool', you're saying to hit Alt-D to deselect everything and then select the object. If you're at component level it's quicker to hold the right mouse button and gesture North East direction.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am a Blender user, so it's hard for me to move to Maya. However, this video has helped me a lot in knowing how to perform the same tasks in Maya that I used to do in Blender.☺
Omg, this is going to save me so much time! I love you!❤ If you're still taking requests I'd pay money to see how you would model and render to the style of Hoyoverse.
Something i would appreciate would be advance tools of modeling in Maya. Some kind of tip and tricks with MASH or clever ways to use it. Because right now i feel more comfortable for modeling to use blender with the amount of tools it provides to work with so i was wondering if a video with Maya MASH advance modeling could be possible. I wish there were a way to use average vertices but without deforming the shape, kinda what relax brush does but with average vertex.
There is a way to turn on edge constraints. It’s in the wheel menu. Also, there is a nifty trick using the retopo tool relax brush on an older Flippednormals video.
Man videos like these really make me want to jump back into Maya but then I remember I no longer have access to the software without spending $$$. :( *Looks at Blender*
Connect also may be used similar like insert edge tool, if you select 1 edge and press connect you and crate a loop cut, prefer it to insert edge tool, because connect give me slide it and pinch it as well. Good lesson, thank you.
Hello, I am big fan of your youtube channel, it's been 2 months havent seen any update. Is everything ok? Hope you all doing good, and cant wait to see your new video!
I am new to Maya and what I didn't get in this video is how did you get the list of all the tools on the left?? It seems suddenly you clicked something while cursor on the outliner panel and these appeared but I am unable to get this list anywhere! Please someone help!

@@nathanwhite704 TBH the workflow nowadays is sculpting in Zbrush and retopo in Maya. zbrush is super powerful in both organic and hardsurface, extremely fast design interation compared to boxmodelling.
no one told me that the shift key is the extrude hot key. every video and the official maya site always said that you need to find the extrude option and then press G to repeat the action. if you do a different action like Rotate, the G key will then remember it as the last action and will repeate it whenever you press G. literitly that mechanic is what made me stay on blender and made maya look like a total mess and a major turn off. super happy about this
My brain hurts. Ive been using Blender for years and opened Maya this week. It feels like playing a game with inverted controls.... G means free Translate in Blender... imagine tapping that and having the item repeated.... In blender shift D repeats it. .....every... god. damn. button. just rotating the camera feels like i had a stroke.
I think the only childish thing in this whole debate are people like you that still think you need to "choose a side" and then go and bash everyone that prefers to use something else. Different people do different things and prefer different tools for various reasons. Pick whatever you like and what fits your needs best. And accept that others might choose something else. It's time to grow up.
@@bretthenk I am not so sure he is joking. Under literally every video like this there is the obligatory "x is better than [insert the software used in the video here]" comment. I've been using Maya for 10+ years and picked up more from this video than I thought I would 😅
mindblowing
how are these guys better at tutorials than autodesk?
Same, 20+ here, though the shift+move to extrude made me feel very stupid -_-.

I am a Blender user and just started learning Maya and wow modelling tools here are super cool 👌🏽
i LOVE how you structure your videos and also the fact that you split up the videos into chapters, soo good!
Been using Maya for years, since Maya 5. It has changed so much compared to the current versions. This really helped allot!
Thank you so much, i think modeling in Maya is the base and the most important part of entire production pipeline.
what a life saver video, i am literally crying because of my intern 3d job then i saw your video, thanks a lot
doing 3d classes for school and its been a while like a month almost forgot ever thank god for these videos
My productivity atleast 20 percent up after watching this.
I am a huge fan of the Maya interface and I'm always looking for perspectives on tool usage. I appreciate this style content!
I'm not one damn bit surprised that I learned some new things from this video.

Any advantages of the append polygon over the bridge in specific cases?
With bridge you might have some holes(Between two edges), with append tool, they are filled.

Great Video!!

Man this feels like the Matrix
Thanks "A LOTTTTTTTTT"
WOОORKING!!!! OMG!!!
I wonder if Blender has a similar tool to edit edge flow...
I don't think so. I just use the smooth brush from sculpt mode. It almost gives the same result.
Maya needs to add the 3ds max style bridge so you can bridge between unequal number of edges
The easiest way to delete an edge or edge loop is to double click the loop and hit Ctrl Delete on your keyboard.
nice
