The Nikon Coolpix P7100 ($499.95) is one of those cameras that will send the average consumer running for the hills because this badass has more controls, dials, bells and whistles than R2-D2. On the other hand, the Nikon Coolpix P7100 will turn an advanced photographer into a bottle rocket of excitement, thanks to its arsenal of external and internal features. The Nikon Coolpix P7100 goes head to head with the Canon PowerShot G12, though I do believe Nikon has surpassed Canon this time around. The P7100 has a 10-megapixel 1/1.7-inch CCD, just like the Canon G12, though the P7100 benefits from faster EXPEED C2 processing this year. I've been using the Nikon P7100 for about 6 months now. It rocks with the Nikon SB-400 speedlight on it. It's like they were made for each other. Note: That was sarcasm - they were made for each other. I would never put the SB-400 on a higher-end DSLR. But when I'm not shooting a wedding or I don't want to grab the 50 pound Nikon D7000 camera bag this thing is a great little camera to bring along. Love it!!!
A hotshoe,REAL veiwfinder and a mic jack? Hell 8 years later, and I'm sold! I don't really NEED 1080 in a small camera, But IMHO sound quality MAKES or BREAKS video.

@TOXICINNAMON HDR = High Dynamic Range.. meaning the camera will take and blend (usually) 3 photos, an over exposed, an under exposed and a perfectly exposed shot so it can compile a picture with as much detail as possible, especially in the shadow and highlight areas.
Please do a review of the Nikon Coolpix P7700. I really want to hear your opinion on that camera before I decide on buying it.

This guy is brilliant. Glad TechnoBuffalo is doing more camera videos, I hate having to watch reviews of phones I can't buy in the UK, or phones that are optimised to a US carrier. :PC
I dont care a thing about cameras, but I still watch his vids. He makes it pretty interesting.

@VerySweeTea Yeah ofcourse mate, i only mentioned in camera HDR because this camera does it. I much prefer to do it post-shoot, Photomatix was always a favourite, although i feel HDR is overdone as an effect these days. It can still be a nice effect if you do it with a light touch, all those 'hyper real' images are a little tacky imo.
whoa i have this camera and it is awesome easy to use and very handy sold my d5000 for this one hehehe! i realize that im a traveler not a professional photographer so this camera is perfect with all the settings i wanted specially the two knobs.

you didnt mention builtin intervalometer for time lapse photography, not many compact cameras has it :(
Hey everyone, I enhanced the video with a simple Shadows/Highlights filter in Premiere. That's why things are glowing at times. Not because of the fact that I grew up in a toxic waste site in New Jersey.
Are you using a beam splitter to make an HDR video? All the edges are glowing....

I was looking at this until I read this in Amazon..."I liked this camera until the lens cover jammed. Could happen to any but that's why I prefer manual lens cover

it feels like hold me, the pan. GX1 feels like don't drop me, little less image quality than canon G1X, but faster shooting and half the price.

@DeeDeeDanone Yup I couldn't agree more. In this video is overdone. I usually add it a little in pictures to soften a bit if sky is too bright or something like that.

It's same thing as P7000 + one dial more , which was a failure ( BTW you reviewed P7000 as excellent camera ) . SLOOOOW and lousy performance of AF , also problems with lens cover ( this is common stuff ). If you really need bulky compact go with Canon , G 12 or wait G13 it is much better choice . Also Nikon sucks with customer support , so you have good chance to end up with very expensive brick instead of "High-end" compact .
