Just got mine in the mail today. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
That hover state is pretty important to Photo Retouchers: Shift Clicking around an image to strip out objects is 50% of what we do. When I tried using an ipad pro 2019 with AstroPad & photoshop, it worked pretty well, but I really missed shift - clicking when I needed to build quick masks.
Your presentation of these videos just keeps getting better and more fun! I have a 2020 ipad pro and i do want to upgrade for more ram, but I feel like ipad pro's next gen will be the one worth upgrading to.
I went out and bought a 1TB M1 iPad Pro because I assumed that they were finally going to let iPadOS do things that would take advantage of an M1 chip and 16gb of RAM. I'm still waiting. So I really don't have a lot of optimism that they are really going to do much to make an iPad make use of an M2 now. It's a great sketch pad. So was the original ipad pro back in 2015. And so are the current entry models. They're gonna have to actually produce a useful OS and software before I get excited about hardware again.
My iPad pro is a very expensive sketch pad that's all I use it for. I really hate the OS So I don't do anything else on it except maybe take some notes on it once in a while. If the surface pro would up it's drawing game a little bit I would definitely go that route instead.
how much layers 300dpi 6000*6000 can make ipad m2 16gb ram?
As much as hover is essential for computer-bound drawing tablets, on my 2017 ipad pro I'm completely fine without it. The pencil is not meant to be used like a mouse anyways, if you make a wrong line just undo, takes less than a second. Hover is a cool feature but not worth getting an entirely new tablet for it for 1k$+ CAN when my model is still working like new (I bought it in august of 2018 for drawing on the go since I was in graphic design)

In europe an ipad pro m2 12 inch 128gb with the pen and cover/keyboard is 2000 euro, about the same in dollars, for that price you can buy a galaxy tab s8 and a very decent laptop (ryzen 7 5700 + rtx 3060) with much more gpu and cpu power than an m2 even an m1 max gpu, witch you can use for premiere,after effect and blender ! Even can play aaa games !
What's the sensitivity pressure range of tab s8 pen?

This ipad pro is beautiful and seems really solid, just kinda sad that apple hasn’t done anything special with the design of it, i’m just a bit disappointed probably cuz i was waiting for a bigger one. Also great video brad! The editing’s good as it always was! Keep up!

Part of me not actually using my M1 IPad Pro as a proper drawing tablet was a lack of hover feature, and thanks to your review bought a Huion 13” pro. Love it. So my iPad has been relegated to photo editing, 3D sculpting and my favorite app, Cozy Blanket.
@@aoterou I have used both as well and preference definitely plays a part! In my case I appreciate hover because I change brush sizes and shapes quite a bit. I end up undoing very frequently after making an unintentional splotch.
@@aoterou For me, it depends on the brush. If I'm using a standard sketching or inking brush, the hover doesn't matter. Before I began using ipads, I had really old tablet displays that could never be properly calibrated so the alignment of the pen, the hover cursor and the actual mark when drawing was a hot mess. On the other hand, when you buy custom brushes, Procreate brushmakers for some reason LOVE making the brush sizes almost larger than the screen itself and you have no idea how big 10% of a custom brush size is until you draw a stroke. in THAT case, the hover would help, but i think for me that would be the only case I'd welcome it back into my digital art life.
@@aoterou because it depends on the style (they say that on the video), also if you do art professionally,, all professional tablets have that feature, it's not like artist normally decide to deactivate that when they work on their tablets. But commonly if you are used to draw as a hobby, and also used to draw on paper it actually doesn't matter, even the ipad pro is not necessary if you are a casual artist, just any ipad who has apple pencil, the extra money wouldn't be worth for the pro version

You're right about the hover, I'm a 2d animator and I found it really useful but for a very specific task as it is when I use my iPad as a graphics tablet for my MacBook. honestly I really wanted apple introduce something like this and now we have it, but that's just me.

A fantastic review, perfect amount of goofs mixed in. My M2 Ipad Pro 12.9 inch arrives today, my first tablet ever, and I plan to enroll in the intro to digital art course very soon. I hope you give an update video about pencil hover in Procreate, maybe not a dedicated review but inside a future "More hidden / new features in Procreate" video.

Adam: I'm about to pull the trigger on buying a M2 iPad Pro 12.9". I'm curious. How much memory did you buy? I'm debating on either 512 or 1TB of memory.
And, how much RAM did you also get: 8GB or 16GB?
I'm just not sure as to which way I should jump on either.
@@jayedwin98020 I got 256gb of memory. I would only step up to the 1TB if you truly need 16gb of ram, which I have heard does not really feel any different, though that may change in the future with more Pro apps. Anything above 128gb of memory will give you virtual memory swap, which should help with ram intensive apps even with a smaller overall memory. I have been loving the M2 12.9, but keep in mind you will want quite a few accessories to improve the experience. The thunderbolt port has fantastic speed so I will be getting a usb c hub that accepts m.2 ssd’s to get around the local storage limits of 256. I think you will be more than happy with 512, and you can get some premium accessories with that extra cash.
I have an old non-M1 iPad Pro, and craving a new one, so this is pretty tempting.
I really hope the gong is here to stay.

As expected, the iPad M2 is just a refresh with a few added value features. The new design was delayed due to 3nm yields not being up to scratch and issues with MagSafe. So this was always going to be a minor upgrade. Clearly it is better than the M1 iPad, from much faster RAM to extra bandwidth, 50% better ML, faster storage, 10-20% performance upgrade, 10% better batterty life on the efficiency cores, better cameras, Pencil hover, etc. So anyone in the US thinking of buying the M1 or M2, the latter is def where you should go. With the exchange rate of the dollar, it gets complicated in Europe and a harder choice.
yeah... I'm rather glad I bought my 12.9 M1 before last christmas, because now the cheapest 12.9 M2 costs 2k more in my currency

The thing with hover is you don’t need hover to do that. Im sure there is a non hover way. Hell clip studio if u use certain shortcuts u can scroll the brush size and see it shift size. Hovers prob more convient but its a software thing that I’m sure any developer can add without hover. Which b nice for non m2 ipad pros

Specific question… I use 3D models in Clip Studio Pro, and it can bog down quickly. Any way to try comparing that type of processor-intensive art technique?

Hey just a heads up on the Sidecar thing. Update your iPad to 16.1 and full hover works.
Thanks for the video, brad. I have an M1 ipad, and Im seriously considering selling it along with my laptop and just go with a 12.9 inch as a travel workstation, the hover pen was literally the only thing that kept me having an ipad as a true mobile canvas.
Although I may wait for the next gen just in case they drop a battery free and better balanced pen, or an ipad ultra of sorts with a bigger screen.

@@mihailoaleksic3330 I'm in the same boat as OP and I would love it if they did this. I tried a display model of the Samsung Tab S7 Ultra and almost bought it purely because of the 14" display. (But the S-Pen + choppy panning and zooming in CSP quickly talked me out of it lol.)

How big of a deal is this pencil hover? I looks really useful but I already have an M1 pro 12.9 which is pretty new. The only major change is this.

I edit using FCPX with sidecar and my iPad as the main screen. The only thing missing is the ability to hover and/or the ability to use the trackpad on the magic keyboard. If they get this working smoothly I can happily retire my Cintiq 16. 🤷🏾♂️

I have a Pad Pro M1. I just purchased it last month and I am glad with my purchase because I purchased it before the price hike in my country. I wanted to ask if Davinci Resolve will be available for I pad OS then will it be available for I Pad Pro M1 11inch?
I kinda agree with Brad here that this wouldn't really be worth the upgrade for anyone with a 2020 or 2021 iPad Pro, though I would MAYBE consider upgrading if I had a 2018 iPad Pro. However, since my current iPad (as of me writing this, since my new 12.9" iPad Pro is supposed to arrive today) is a 6-year-old 9.7" iPad "Pro," upgrading to this was a no-brainer.
The new Apple Pencil hover feature, in particular, makes me glad I held out for the 6th-gen, as tempted as I was to get the 5th-gen to have a new iPad Pro in time for my trip to California for LightBox Expo earlier this month.

I've only ever noticed the light bleed when watching hdr videos at high brightness. Dark scenes show it the most, but it's not a huge issue.

Yep lol. I have the same tablet but the 2020 version and always find myself looking at newer tablets. To be fair, my tablet has major burn in for some reason.

Dear brad, how is battery life going for ipad pro m2?
Never used the hover feature at all, not even on deviced that support it. I'll stick to my iPad M1, it will suit me fine for many years. Not paying a astronomical amount for some minor upgrades. Once they release a 14" or 16" iPad they got my attention.
I still have the air 4 and I've barley used that to it's full potential so there's no for me need to upgrade.
Side note: Although I will say the new iPad 10 with front face cam in landscape mode is a frustrating update to not have
Hi, got my new M2 iPad Pro today. Can confirm hover pencil is now implemented in sidecar and works well in Photoshop and even Blender. Also the 5.29 update of Procreate also supports hover but for me it seems a bit glitchy.*Update - you need to disable palm support in procreate which seems to cause a bunch of problems. Unfortunately, for the time being anyway, you also have to toggle off 'disable touch actions' in the gesture controls menu. Otherwise hover doesn't appear to work. hopefully that will be addressed in the 5.3 update!
Hi, I would like to ask if Apple Pencil work well in Photoshop in sidecar. I mean about apple pen pressure sensitivity.
@@lunaroh2989 It works very well, it may even be more sensitive than a Wacom for very low pressure touches. If anything, you have to press pretty hard to get the darkest darks when you use pressure opacity.

I am probably NOT going to upgrade. DaVinci doesn't really apply to me so I have no need for that. The hover feature doesn't really excite me. I feel like I would get more frustrated trying to master it and just turn it off rather than I would just laying down a stroke, two-finger tapping to undo, adjusting, then trying again. My issue with the LED screen is that rather than light bleed you have this darkened shadow area surrounding the entire screen. I would much rather have pure white LCD screen going from corner to corner. I think the only reason I would upgrade is to have a bigger screen..? as I currently use a 11" M1 Pro but I kind of like the 11" better than the 12". That one extra inch makes a real difference in portability for me. Great video though! I was thoroughly edu-tained and I like your technique for painting from references. I am currently in an actual digital painting course and watching you taught me a thing or two, Kudos!
Just curious, if you have the M2 iPad Pro in your possession now for the review, what would be holding you back from just switching over from the 2018 one?
I dont think he stated that this product was sent to him as pr, he might have purchased this out of pocket and returned or re-sold it after the review because he didn't think it was worth keeping.

I’d guess since a review of the 2022 iPads would be useful for his channel, but having to buy all of them would be a lot of money lol Possibly a friend let him use it as well. I was just curious if he did own it and didn’t need to sell it, if there was another reason he’s holding onto using the 2018 version above the ‘22 one 😅

Thankfully with my M1 iPad there not really much regret of getting this year iPad Pro. Luckily I got use to mine over time so the hover feature not really worth throwing 1k$.
I got the ipad pro 12.9 2021 , and l have had it for nearly 3 weeks and l find it more than enough since l am just in 7th grade and l just wanted something expensive and primem and l feel like it's more than enough for me since the only upgrade is that the new pro has M2 chip and pencil hover which is quite useless for me .
My procreate app crashes while exporting my animation as a gif…is it because of my ipad hardware limitations or app issues??
If possible, I'd love to see an iPad Pro(2021), iPadPro (2022) and iPadPro Air (2022) 11 inch comparison. If anyone else would like to give advice or an opinion, I'll gladly hear it.
I'm an absolute amateur but before the new (2022) models came out a friend recommended getting the pro (2021) version. I'd like to know how the iPad pro (2021) differ/ how they are similar/ if there is a big difference at all (in terms of layers and drawing-related issues).
Since I'm an amateur, the iPad Air 64gb is probably more than enough for me, but if I compare the 256GB model to the 128GB Pro model it's only a 80€ difference...that's not a lot compared to the huge rest of the sum - 979€ for the pro with a student discount. That reminds me: Make sure to check if you can get a student discount at apple. Sometimes it's the cheapest you can find a laptop/ipad compared to amazon and other sellers)
I didn't even know there was a new one out. I'm still using the 2017 version. It's been through hell and back and still works perfectly, but it's probably a good time to look into upgrading. I need those extra layers!
Same! Our 2017 iPad Pros are good for one more major update and after that they won’t be supported anymore.

@@minalarca5172 I haven't had issues with battery life. I can still get through most of the day with moderate use which includes, gaming for a few hours, TH-cam, and web browsing. If I work on a large Procreate file, it does seem to drain the battery faster, but nothing too bad.
@@minalarca5172 At least in my case, the battery is okayish... it was never super great but holds for 2-3 hours of painting before needing recharging. The pencil goes down quicker but recharges pretty quickly as well.
