  • "To sand or not to sand? That is my question."
    KXK Dynamics and I work through a video series discussing more advanced sanding and polishing techniques. Jason Killmer, generally regarded as the best wet sander in the world, and Andy Ward, also known as Proficient X, made the trip to OGHQ to drop some knowledge on me.
    In Episode 7, I woke up early to run through my normal process on a section of a different hood to later compare to sanded area and then KXK method.

    im glad you mentioned heat because i was wondering while watching, if a thermal camera would show the amount of pressure and coverage more visually than the gauge. id assume the hood would change color as it is polished in a visually appealing way.

    Wipe it down with a paint prep(gyeon prep, carpro eraser) after polishing for a true finish.

    Is the unit you are using measuring just the clearcoat itself? I have a cheaper unit to use but it measures the thickness of everything above the metal.

    What kind of paint micron meter are you using? Great series btw, love the level of detail this goes into as well as the comparison between your style and Jason's.

    the flakes in the paint really hide a lot. overall very nice but a jet black bmw hood would be a real test.

    how long did it take u to come up with your pad/product process?

  • @sbcl7
    @sbcl7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Matt, love your videos! How fast should I be letting the pad spin? I marked it with a sharpie. Should I be able to see that mark moving slowly? Or not at all?

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pad needs to be rotating. The mark will stop moving if it isn't.

    Maybe I missunderstod but you took around 5microns of clear and said you could do this type of paintcorrection maybe six times? Then you have shaved 30microns of clearcoat?

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct

    Matt, do you ever find the need to use the more aggressive Red nanoskin block?

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not on the cars I'm generally working on. The Fine gets the job done for me.

    How does the compound you used compare to meguiars 105? Also perfect finish vs meguires 205?

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don't like 105. 101 and 100 are more aggressive, but dust much less. I still prefer Perfect Finish. The end result looks better to me.

    Matt your LHR15 looked stock, I have the same polisher and mine is stock. I just think it creates less wear and tear on the machine leaving it stock.
