Nice tutorial, but I think it missed the point of the surface tracker. My understanding is that it is used to map an image onto the contours of, say the eye, and have that image move with the eye. So, for example adding makeup that moves and contours as the eye opens and closes, adding a tattoo to her a cheek that would move naturally when she talked. What you did was just replace one image with another, that could be equally done with a planar tracker in Fusion.
I guess Mocha is the best tracker out there, at least for now. But the fact that DaVinci is growing into the most universal software in the industry is amazing. I started almost 5 years ago with color grading, then really quickly started editing all of my projects there, and now I'm transitioning from After Effects and Audition to Fusion and Fairlight. And instead of having a bunch subscription based programs, you just have one for just $300 for all the features available.
@@AramK for $300 for the pack, Fusion is cool, especially when you get it packed with some plug-ins. I still use AE when i need something to be done fast as I've been using it for 12 years now and i can work in my sleep there, but nodes are more fun to build in Fusion/Nuke. Fusion eats a lot of horsepower though. And yeah, Nuke looks cool, i might start studying it, I just didn't have projects where i would need Nuke yet. + It's pricey, unless you're a 🏴☠️
@@BorysFilms I cant have fusion to work, my main computer is really beefy and performance suck. I constantly keep coming back to after effects and others. Too slow on all my computers. Its nice to have but performance suck
Really good detailed tutorial Aram, THANK YOU. It opened my eyes to other ways of using the Trackers in DR18. Just a thought for you to consider for a tutorial, is it possible to use the Depth Map, to easily add moving Smoke/fog behind a subject, or behind the Midground, in front of the Background ? An example would be: Foreground = Person Midground = Vehicle Background = Buildings / Forest

you don't see patch rigid with an eye ?

Same. Even though fusion is really terrible. I wish they would have nuke instead.

An example would be:
Foreground = Person
Midground = Vehicle

its possible, but currently depth map not as accurate. Im sure in the next release its gonna be better
