- In this video, I document the incredible sea life found near Magdalena Bay off the coast of Baja California, Mexico and how I was in the right place at the right time to capture one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
Special thanks to Nautilus Liveaboards for hosting me.

Interesting there were no sharks during any of these shots (and ironic considering the majority of your content!), was that just circumstance or do they just not operate in this area?
If you watch closely you will see one Sea lion with a missing tail from a shark bite.
@@TheMalibuArtist There's also a swimming fish with a big chunk missing @6:38
You should be VERY proud of this footage. Honestly, this is better that National Geographic; the close up vibrant imagery.
Way better then Nat Geo has done in a long time.... Then again networks go for what would put the best show for raittings then trying to show the truth...
That's way too kind. Thank you!!
I was thinking the same thing. So spectacular. The one still of the whale with its eye closed was neat. The whole video was incredible.
Carlos, without a word of hyperbole, you have some award winning photographs in this lot. The images starting at 7:21 are worth entering into competitions. Also, you may want to contact
National Geographic. I'm not kidding. I feel as if I'm with you in the water. Each individual image is full of drama and I sincerely thank you for sharing your work with us here.
Absolutely..I'm in full agreement
Your work is impeccable. The artistry you weave into your production is inspiring. Well done.
I grew up watching Jacque Cousteau. An amazing individual who instilled a love of the sea and all it's wonderful inhabitants in children everywhere.
I wish every child could view episodes such as this one and learn to appreciate and wish to protect the beautiful and fragile life within the oceans. As always, thank you, Carlos.
Many thanks! I can only hope my 2 year old will have the opportunity.
I definitely share this with my children and grandchildren. Such beautiful film of the vibrant sea life is something nobody should miss.

I have to assume the whale knew about where you were due to echo location... but still you were within feet of a whale during feeding behavior with the business end pointed more or less right at you... incredible shots and footage. I don't think he meant any specific harm to the other predators (including you) but I do suspect he was showing everyone who the big boy at the bait ball was. Definitely gave off "look at me flex" vibes especially after that entry. Maybe I'm wrong but it was still some really nice footage to see. Big thanks!
Oh my gosh. Bryde's whales are so often surprise guests at filmed bait balls that it's getting to the point where somebody is actually going to accidentally end up in the mouth of one! Not that they could swallow a human; I believe their throats are too narrow for that (though I could be wrong). But I still don't imagine it would be much fun for the hapless diver - or the whale!
Absolutely stunning photographs, Carlos. Just wow! 😍
Congratulations! Not many people have shots like that. Wonderful. Words do fail us sometimes, it's okay ... that's where the heart takes over. ❤
I wish I could of experienced so many of the things you do...Malibu artist... I have cancer and only have a few months to live and I know I will never experience the things you have ..and at 36 I feel like my life is somewhat of a disappointment ... But your videos make me happy for you....
Amazing adventure and gorgeous footage. Thanks for sharing all this beauty with us!
You are one lucky hombre, my friend! This film brought tears of splendor to my eyes. Thanks so much!
Please tell me that you entered those still shots in the National Geographic Annual Photo competition? They were by far some of the most incredible I've ever seen.
I love all your footage, it's so high in quality and beautiful. Congratulations and keep going.
Carlos, one thing I can count on when I see any of your videos pop up on my YT page (feed) - something special is about to unfold. And it ALWAYS does! Step by step, dazzling, shimmering movement of the bait-ball, various participants adding to the motion ( seals) some jotting in then out (marlin) then engulfing you for the BIG surprise. WOW! Fabulous content & photography but also your story-telling. It swept us into the bait-ball with the right accompanying & urgent message at end. To value & protect. Thank you Carlos. 💦💙
A couple of years ago, my husband and I took our underwater camera to the beach in Destin FL (emerald coast). There were so many bait fish and for over an hour we swam and photographed.... It wasn't til much later I realized the gravity of what we had done. As beautiful as it was, it was an incredibly dangerous thing to do because of the sharks that are out there. We didn't see any that day but a friend of mine dropped his Go-Pro under the pier close to where we were. It was shocking just how many sharks were in that area. 😳 That day will forever be etched into my memory however I am unlikely to ever do that again 😂 This footage and the pictures are breathtaking! They certainly rank up there for the best I've ever seen.....
Wow, Wow, Wow!! And thanks so much for sharing the awe. For those of us who would love desperately to be snorkleing/diving there in person but cant, you are the next best thing. Such splendid photography and videography from the different perspectives in those crystaline waters. ❤❤❤. We do need to preserve this gift of our earth.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and I share the same sentiment about nature.
Your footage is amazing , glad you share it with us .
Oh my God! Those photos are INCREDIBLE!!! I really hope that you win an award for some of those photos. If you don't, someone isn't paying attention. Oh and also, I could not be more jealous. You must have been a really good person in your past life.
@nahaniyes - quite possibly, however, Carlos is a really good person in his present life.
This film makes it difficult to be very fearful of water. Thank you.

Thank you for taking us with you under the sea. All your videos and pictures are beautiful. I really love the sea but I'm too afraid of it to imagine living such a breathtaking experience as you did. Watching this video gave me an opportunity to nourish my dreams of meeting a whale swimming freely in the open sea. Thanks for offering your work
Thanks for the Jacques Cousteau Comment.....so true. Grew up watching that guy. Cool❤
Thrilled for you!!! You’ve worked long and diligently at your craft, with unusual passion, so that you were ready for that moment: your instincts were trained, and your abilities were honed so that you could fully bring it all to bear while still being present to enjoy the spiritual nature of that encounter. You seem to have so many memories that will last you a lifetime. What a dazzling array of moments you have brought to us Carlos. I would have been terrified to wind up inside that ball with the marlin about; he could do some serious Steve Irwin-type damage! {Shudder}
