  • May 17, 1991 - Surely, many would argue that Joe Dumars' career peak actually came in 1989 when he was named Finals MVP after carrying the Detroit Pistons to their first championship in franchise history. Others may argue that, statistically, his offensive peak hit in 1993 when he averaged 23.5 points per game. Both are fair assessments. But rarely was Dumars ever as hot as he was during Game 6 of the 1991 Eastern Conference semi-finals against the Boston Celtics.
Taking on a more prominent offensive role while teammate Isiah Thomas battled through a sprained foot, Dumars set the tone by scoring 25 of his 32 points before halftime, connecting on 11 of his 15 shot attempts from the field in the process. After coughing up a 17-point lead, the Pistons held on in overtime, eliminating the Celtics 117-113.

Joe D stepped up in a huge way. I think he finally realized he could be the guy that can carry this team.

Joe D had such a beautiful rainbow jumper.
Injuries and Father Time finally hit this team. Zeke played only 48 games, battling a myriad of injuries. I think the Bulls would have won, regardless, but the ECF would have been closer with a healthier Pistons squad.

Also, Isiah leaping over the press table with his ankle and foot injuries. Damn.

Manu Ginobli, Sidney Moncrief and Joe Dumars are the best guards not in the top 75 list.
