Literally. This video is the shit. The computer repair shop quoted me $335 to do this repair and I took it upon myself to learn how to do it myself. Thank GOODNESS FOR THIS VIDEO. Omg, like it would have been impossible without finding a video like this. AND I found the replacement part at Amazon for $58. Winning 🙌🏾 but seriously tho. You're the goat for this video. Thank you 🙏🏿
Thank you so much for posting this! Apparently these hinges are a frequent problem with this particular model, and I had the exact same issue. You saved me a lot of money and aggravation with this video.
Thank you for posting this video! The plastic broke on my top and the anchors came out, too. It was a mess. I have a new top on the way and this video will help me put it all back together. You rock!
I just ordered a palm board and the bottom, cracked in a few places. Mine is a 17-by1972ci. It looks like the same palm board and bottom. At least the same screw holes LOL. I hope this is close enough, I am gonna give it a try. Not sure what that black stuff you put on under that piece you wiped off first? Thank you great video! Do I have to replace that compound??
I don't know about that. You can investigate yourself on the HP part surfer website. Search for HP part surfer you'll find it. You can enter the computers serial number and get a full list of all of the replacement part numbers. Once you have the right part number you can look for it on eBay or Amazon etc.
I find most replacement parts on eBay and Amazon. for an HP laptop check out the HP Parts surfer website. you can enter the laptops serial number there and then get a list of all the part numbers. Once you have that you can search online for the part.
The symptom was fixed, but not the problem. If the hinge tension is not adjusted, this is a complete waste of time. Just a matter of time before the new part fails.
It's not a matter of time it's depends how many times the screen is opened and closed. I advise every laptop user to not open and close the lid more than they need to.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy Take 2 minutes and loosen the hinge tension. Your clients will be able to open and close their HP laptops thousands of times without damage
@@mikem4696 found another video about loosening the hinges - going to give it try since this is a common problem. They are way too tight - to sum it up, there's a small nut on the side of each hinge. Some lube carefully applied may be needed as well

The stuff I wiped off was the thermal compound. It's a good idea when you're in there to go ahead and replace with fresh thermal compound.

@@MichaelTheComputerGuy Okay, thank you for your information. Hopefully this isn't too hard to do I will probably use your video as a guide.
So, does that person’s laptop have everything intact? You know the files from her HDD?
Removing and reattaching the drive doesn't effect the data on the drive.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy Oh. So nothing gets deleted, yeah?

@@SportyRiderhey there, did that video work? Can you provide a link? Thanks !
Curious where you purchased the replacement laptop palmrest?
Ebay
Or Amazon
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy is it new and original?
These HP hinges are awful. How long does this job take to do for a tech savvy person?
I'd say an hour maybe an hour and a half if you're taking your time.
Not width of a screw it is the diameter.
Yep
