I have an 04 e46 m3 with 128k miles. There is a prominent “thud” more so than a clunk during off throttle and on throttle and when shifting. Would this shim kit solve my issue? The thud is very noticeable and I notice replay in the right output shaft
I have slow speed grinding noise on my Z4M 06. Guess the clutches are toast. I drift every chance I get :D Do I need to get the full kit of just the clutch pack. Everything else seems ok. It has 80,000 km on it.
If you don't have the whining noise on the straight line, then your bearings can push more. They usually hold up to 120k km. Anyways, you need V2 clutch pack. The same one as E92 M3. I’ve been coming across a number of discussions across a few E46 M3 forums that share experience and knowledge of the free play shim contributing to premature spider gear deterioration - due to the Bellville shim design adding too much preload, where there should in fact be an appropriate amount of spider backlash. Also that the racingdiff clutch pack wears out far quicker than OEM. Can you please provide some comment and insight on these two matters?
We installed and regularly checked sents in more than 20 diffs locally. Never had such issues. We recommend Motul Gear Competition oil to be used. People make mistake during installation as they assemble all parts dry, that lead to premature wear. Despite many videos we made... many diffs we assembled are used in pro drift cars, including Michael Essa in Formula drift.
Hello, I got the same problem "the clunk" on my Z4 e85 2.5 si engine. There is a solution for NON M differentials? I got the clunk when I'm in gear, car decelerate and when I put my foot on the pedal it clunks. Please help
This is the play between spider gears. LSD conversion kit removes this problem when installed. And you get 25% lock LSD. For your car, you need Type 188L. racingdiffs.com/collections/lsd-conversion-sets/products/bmw-e46-e90-e92-e39-e60-lsd-conversion-set
@@RacingDiffs thank you for the very quick respond! there is nothing left to change. I was planing to get the conversion kit but wanted to fix the problem first. No shims no nothing? Just the conversion kit?
Then this kit is perfect for you. You need V2 option. racingdiffs.com/collections/lsd-clutch-plate/products/bmw-m3-m5-m6-z4m-lsd-differential-rebuild-kit
The only fix for any bmw is a ford 8.8 I have blown two m3 diffs always the short stub side. They are just poo if you’re running real power. I will say it was fine before I LS swapped the car and tripled the power.
@raduorban perhaps. Anyway, we have all parts available including multi variable ramps with different angles, gears, pins, everything. Just so you know.
Yes, that's a similar problem. We have the kit for this diff as well. racingdiffs.com/collections/lsd-clutch-plate/products/bmw-m2-m3-m4-m5-m6-evohybrid-lsd-upgrade
Also, is the Z4M diff exact same as the E46 M3? Your tutorials seem to be for M3

Yes, sir. This kit is the solution to your differential problem.

Why does my e92 M3 diff have an excessive grinding noise during low speed turns?
Your clutches are dead. You need to replace them.

same with turns from a standstill
Yeap. This is quite a common problem in those.

How much power are you running ?
I am seeing this free play appear on the e36 188mm diff. I guess the age is showing now...
In this case, free play comes from worn clutches.
@@RacingDiffs they were new. I think the ramps themselves or the inner small pinions have wear and the tolerances get loose over time
