@juliabohemian Well, Benton was on until mid-season 8, and Carter stuck around until the end of season 11, but he had some cameos for the next three seasons, until Noah Wyle finally returned as a "regular" for the last five episodes. There's a pretty intense Carter storyline as the series ends, and Benton has a guest appearance in two episodes as part of that storyline. It's really a sweet conclusion to one of the best relationships on the show.
@kathy1977 That's real life, though. Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. If ER did anything, it definitely showed that real life sucks, and that you take every victory you can get. And I think it looked good for Carter in the end. Sure, it didn't have anything definite, but at least they let those little rays of hope shine in to let us think everything was going to be okay. A real ending is definitely better than a happy ending in the long run. At least, I think it is.
@juliabohemian me too. and probably why I kept watching as long as I did... and why I bothered to start watching again at the very end. Nothing other than a Carter/Benton reunion could get me watching season 15, I think. :)
the 'getting back together with Kem' thing was left open, though--- she still seems reluctant. And he hasn't called her, in the end. ;) But professionally speaking, yes, he's doing great- the center is certainly an achievement. Just the thought of MORE trouble for him- having a kidney transplant is no joke, even in the best case scenario transplanted kidneys don't usually 'survive' longer than 15 years (...)
plus being on immunosuppresants for the rest of his life means he shouldn't be ALLOWED to work in a hospital due to risk of catching an infection- I bet they just didn't think of that, but it made me cringe a little bit. It's just a world of limitations and trouble to befall on a man who's already been royally screwed in the course of the show--- can't he just have a normal life with less tragedy and health issues and whatnot?
“Let’s go Carter.” One of the best TV show lines ever.
Their bromance is perfection.
The two best characters from this show!

Ya don't back out on Mother Benton.
best bro-mance ever!
God I love ER
i miss watching ER
He talks to him like he would if he was in the hospital. You're coming to my house now you promised my mother
Benton was so good to Carter. He could be an ass, no doubt. However, when Carter was stabbed, he moved so fast. Is he conscious? IS HE CONSCIOUS?
Great moment.
