Lexie Heugh how am I being horrible? I'm saying that even thought this video doesn't relate to me at all, she makes it so interesting that I still want to watch it. Calm down! It's a compliment.
One of the coolest things i’ve seen a past teacher do for multiple choice tests is to take a blank and hole punch the right answer and simply lay that blank copy on top of students tests and she highlighted any bubbles that were blank
I’m in college right now to become a teacher and tbh you and Real Rap With Reynolds are two of my biggest inspirations to keep moving forward in my studies.
I like your vlogs, but respect your decision to create whatever content you feel inspired to create! As a student teacher, I found this video extremely helpful & will start using these tips right away. Keep doing you boo
danielllebellle was the test based on just the content or how to teach it mixed with the content. Also, we’re the questions just multiple choice or written responses too?

Thank you so much for this comment! Filming what you are doing every single day for over two years is EXHAUSTING and repetitive. I do still plan to produce one vlog a month, but definitely not every single week. Ultimately, I am proud producing content like this that I know will help teachers. While vlogging produces entertainment, I want to be so much more than that. Thank you for your comment :)
@@PocketfulofPrimary Thank you so much for your videos and all the hard work you do to produce them. You have wonderful ideas and I'm so excited that we'll get to see more of them.
I am a teacher and I'm moving to a new school. I knew I needed to revamp my paper organization system to make my grading easier, so your channel was my first stop! Your info never disappoints! As a 24 year veteran, your expertise provides a fresh approach to everything! Thank you for helping us seasoned vets keep it exciting!
I really want to thank you for all the content that you have posted. I am a new teacher who started teaching in January and have received very little developmental support from my school. Finding you has given me hope. You have become like my youtube mentor so THANK YOU!
Another hack (learned from my math teacher) is to only grade a few problems. Basically, give the students a list of problems to do, and then tell them to highlight a certain few. That way, you can quickly check the answers while also making sure that each concept is understood.
HACKS from my dad!! -print an extra copy of a multiple choice test, mark the correct answers, HOLE punch THEM!!!, then lay your key over the test. all you have to look for is the same bubbles filled in. if not, you can mark through the hole you punched. BOOM -make letter matching quizes that spell something (SO easy to check)! -get your child to help you! (i got to put stickers on middle schoolers’ papers)
I think it’s worth noting that a student’s grade is not the business of another student. I still remember my middle school Spanish instructor trading papers and feeling so embarrassed and ashamed of what others saw grade-wise that I didn’t want others to see.
Great grading hacks, Michelle! I decided to implement personalized learning this school year (for high school). Allowing the students the opportunity to self-assess is a powerful learning opportunity. The students trade in their pen/pencil for a highlighter and highlight the problem or the area of the problem they got incorrect. Then I meet with them one-on-one to discuss areas of success and areas for improvement; which allows us to work together to set learning goals.
This was really great! When I first started teaching- eighteen years ago- I realized I had not been taught about grading and report cards. I went online and found info I needed and bought GradePro, which I really like. This video was really important because I bet it still isn't being addressed while getting your teaching credential. Thank you, Michelle!
Some of these I already do. I have to get better at grading throughout the day. I tend to just keep a pile of things to grade and grade it eventually, which can be days later. Thanks for the tips Michelle. I love this format of videos.
so glad you’re making these videos!! personally prefer them so much more than vlogs because i learn so much more to apply into my own teaching practices

I am in college right now and have recently found your videos. I just wanted you to know that they are SO helpful. Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas with us all!
Such a fun channel. I've been teaching for 15 years and I absolutely love your tips. I started using google classroom and marking based on your channel! Thank you so much for adding positivity and humour to your channel. The best!
I’ve used the hack where you grade one page for everyone. It really works. I find that I have more fun grading. Also the treat yourself. After I finished each page I tend to eat some snacks and return to grade more. These are good tips. Thank you for sharing.
I love the new format of your videos! They are so well produced! You are my favorite teacher You Tuber and you create excellent content! Keep it up girl!
These videos are really helpful to me. I mean I’m 12 but I really want to become a math/science teacher when I’m older so your videos give me an idea of what to do. Thank you!
Great tips! I also have small class list papers that I print in bulk for each of my classes. Then, in grading, I don't worry about alphabetizing but put the student's grade by their name. When it's time to enter their grades into the computer, it's easy to type them all in from the list.
I'm loving the variety of videos now! I can't use a lot of these tips for my own classroom (Preschool Special Ed doesn't tend to have a lot of grading that is on paper- so much from performance based skills!) but there are some hacks I can adjust to fit my classroom! I am still working on adjusting my data collection for the Early Learning Assessment we have to do with our kids- shout out to Ohio preschool teachers! There are times I wish I just had papers to grade (we have 72 pieces of data to collect per student at least twice a year 😮)
Amazing how watching your videos motivated me so much to start teaching younger kids! I've always thought I'd only ever teach High School, but I found myself binging your videos and seeing myself in that same position! I've become more and more passionate about teaching as the seconds go by and I'm so glad I found your channel! Today, I got my very first job interview! Your tips video helped me a lot and it went very very well! Thank you so much for being such a blessing and a light in my life! You deserve the world, the world doesn't deserve you!
Hey I got a tip I'm a student and a lot of my teachers mix up papers and put some in different classes than the student and what I suggest is to grade each class a different color if you can but AVOID RED it has phycological connotations with negative scores and comments
Very helpful tips! I teach kindergarten and even my grading would take forever because I would wait until the end of the week to grade it all. I started grading and sending it home every day and using those small moments throughout the day to grade and it is so much easier!
Love all of the tips!!! I used most of them when I was a teacher! Don't forget to put the grades in the grade book then put graded papers in Return To Students bin or file away if you are keeping them. My daughter's teacher lost her math test that she got a 100% on and she had to re-take the test. She was really disorganized.
The struggle with grading papers is so real! Thank you so much for sharing such great tips. I appreciate it. When you mentioned the part about being a new teacher and loving to grade papers only to discover later that you don’t love it, I was like, “YUP! That was me! 🙋🏻♀️” It’s always a struggle but I love learning how other teachers manage it. Thanks again!
My roster changes too often to give numbers. By the time my roster settles after the first 3 weeks, someone shows up or someone leaves. I wish giving numbers worked. I signed up for after school study hall 2 days a week. I'm just expected to monitor so I do a lot of grading then. It's an hour or 2 every week and I'm much less stressed this year.
You don’t know how excited I am to become a teacher. Next year is my senior year of high school and we have a class for students who want to be teachers and I plan on taking it :) I love your videos so much and you inspire me!!
My kids write their class list number on their exercises, and this year, I gave each class a colour dot sticker that they stick on their books and write their number on. Makes ordering easier. 😊 Have kids hand in books open so it is faster to mark. One tip I also use is to have a class list to tick off who handed in and also an out of 5 rating system for the work they did. - for you, not for them to see.
I'm LOVING these content videos!! These hacks are SO useful! As a second year teacher, I've hit that wall of, "OMG! I HATE grading!" lol Also, I'd love to see a video on your data binder; how you collect and use your data!
Thank you for these grading hacks! 😀. Very informative and useful for a first year teacher such as myself! 😀. I will typically sit in one of my student’s desk and grade papers. I also get my papers graded as they turn them in (if I have time, which is VERY rare), during my planning, or after school. Thank you for your continued inspiration! 😀.
I always "add points" to let students have a positive view of a graded page. It usually shows as a fraction. Maybe it is 8/10 on page 1; 6/10 on page 2. The grade goes on the bottom of the last page as a total (for privacy). For this one, it would be 14/20. . . and there is already a line right next to the grade for a parent signature
I have quality ink stamps I designed and had made up. These include date, comments and my signature. I grade and my own kids stamp. Once or twice a week, they earn their pocket money and love stamping! I also get my teenagers to mark the multiple choice and T/F sections and I'm left only with the writing to mark. :-) I add the scores and get 1 of my kids to check me! :-) It makes grading a family activity and leaves me more time to relax and socialize at school. Plus, things always turn up at school (like parents, meetings, etc.) so it takes some of the stress out of my day.
Enjoying the tips (as a current student teacher) but also missing the vlogs as they were fun to watch and gave me a lot of ideas to do in my future classroom!
Hey Michelle.... I am only 12 and I love watching your videos. I love to play school and use all of your hacks. I plan to become a teacher when I am older.
I like to use PowerSchool to quickly get a screenshot of the barcode and questions. It grades it for you and a student can do it. I make stuff where the answer key is on the left margin and the students multiple choice goes in the margin too. Quickly look down and compare. Each worksheet gets a number and each semester gets a shape, so that if I need to go back and quickly look at something, I know where to find it. For short answers, I have a keyword or key quote to look for. For fill in the blank, I have a key with a space cut out for where the answer goes and I wrote the answer above the open space in the key. You have some great hacks!
I just interviewed for a teaching job Friday, and I found your channel when searching for interview questions. I’ve now been binge watching your videos all weekend! I'm a soon to be teacher and love grading right now. I haven't done much but when I was in middle school I absolutely loved grading. Maybe when I've been teaching for years that'll change 😂
I’m a future elementary ed major and your videos always make me so excited to start learning, eventually get my own classroom, and have my kiddos be able to call me Ms. Best. 😂
I'm really enjoying this style of video, you seem to be enjoying them a lot more too which shows with your energy and little jokes throughout. Great content!
I hope you'll add in some vlogs at some point, but I completely understand that daily/weekly vlogs might be too demanding. As someone who simply enjoys your content and doesn't actually teach, I personally prefer the vlogs but I bet these are still really helpful to those that do teach.
She said in an earlier comment that she'll still vlog, just once a month. She also mentioned that her content is directed towards helping teachers, though.
I love watching these videos because it shows me why a teacher did what they did while I was a student lol not always done to make us moan and grown it really was to help everyone out! You’re terrific 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Custom scantrons you can print from your school printers for exit tickets, multiple choice, or griddable questions. Only $7 for the whole year, you create unlimited classes with students, and you can input their student IDs and it will give you all the data! It has been a life changer for me!
Use Ed puzzle too, I’m a student so I don’t know so much about it but you can have kids watch videos and do stuff then have them answer questions during the video to make sure they are watching
Love the tips and hacks. My personal favorites are #6 and #7 because they go together for organizational purposes. It makes it more efficient for the teacher. I also hate the word chunks!! I believe you used the word batches is one of your tip videos. I absolutely love Treat Yo’self!! I would incorporate stretches with little exercise to get the blood pumping.
This is one of the most useful videos you have made. Love these tips. I take a minimum of 12 grades a six weeks for 116 kids. With make-up and redos, this is a stressful part of the day.
FYI for anyone who is wanting those labels...They are really worth it! I love them and use them for everything! I even made labels for my kid's science fair projects this year using them! LOL
I was in math class and the teacher passed the hw out and had us grade eachother's papers. One girl noticed I didn't have an answer bubbled and did it for me. She was so close to the teacher. It was so risky. Thank you Julie for helping me not get a D in math!
My teacher friend always grades tests and quizzes with a scantron. Literally best grading hack!! The only things she will actually sit there and grade are classwork grades and writing assignments
Unfortunately since I am balancing teaching full time, getting my master's degree in a single year, creating content for TH-cam, and creating products for TpT, I just can't produce 45-60 minute videos any more. I am focusing on bettering myself for my students through education and my students will always take priority.

YOUR HAIR IS FREAKING AMAZING
Custom scantrons you can print from your school printers for exit tickets, multiple choice, or griddable questions. Only $7 for the whole year, you create unlimited classes with students, and you can input their student IDs and it will give you all the data! It has been a life changer for me!
I am only 12 and want to be a teacher and you inspire me to keep my dreams up and be myself!!!
Use Ed puzzle too, I’m a student so I don’t know so much about it but you can have kids watch videos and do stuff then have them answer questions during the video to make sure they are watching
Super helpful! Especially for new teachers. Thanks Michelle!
LOL
Thanks this is a video I wil be referring back to throughout the year. It will help me and some colleagues.
I was in math class and the teacher passed the hw out and had us grade eachother's papers. One girl noticed I didn't have an answer bubbled and did it for me. She was so close to the teacher. It was so risky. Thank you Julie for helping me not get a D in math!
I've done most of your tricks already, and got some new inspiration from the others hack too.
Thank you!💕
i’m only in 7th grade and i have wanted to be a teacher for a little while and your videos make me more interested in teaching
I do miss the vlogs but love these as well!!
I don’t need a certain style video; tips, work week, whatever it may be, I enjoy them all. Do whatever you, as the creator, enjoy and love :)
I’m not a teacher but I love watching your videos
I have not even watched the whole video yet but so helpful Michelle!
Love these suggestions!! Some I currently do and now I have ones that I want to try(the comment code idea is priceless!!). Thank you!
My teacher friend always grades tests and quizzes with a scantron. Literally best grading hack!! The only things she will actually sit there and grade are classwork grades and writing assignments
Have a nice day!!! Missed ya at six this morning but this was very informative ❤
Super helpful video! loved it :) I miss your long videos tho... (I treat myself with you videos each week)
Unfortunately since I am balancing teaching full time, getting my master's degree in a single year, creating content for TH-cam, and creating products for TpT, I just can't produce 45-60 minute videos any more. I am focusing on bettering myself for my students through education and my students will always take priority.
@@PocketfulofPrimary You are such an inspiration that I actually in the admission process to get into a Masters :D I am having my interview next week! I am so excited! I really love watching your videos and learning of how organized and efficient you are :) !!! Lots of love!!
This was such a help! I just created a Google Forms assessment using this video today in my classroom. Thank you!
from Philippines here... thanks for sharing your expertise.. your awesome
The biggest life changer for me was Google Form. Nearly all of my class work is in Google Form multiple choice formatting. Basically grading itself!
This is very helpful information it really has been making a big improvement in my classroom and I’m a Kindergarten-First Grade and not switch classes
Thank you for sharing these awesome tips and tricks!
Hello! I love your videos and you always make my sunday mornings 😊 I want to be a teacher just like you when I grow up! Love ❤️
