      Welcome Broder Perdurabo and Makkara!!
It is not a dog for everyone. But for those who have the chance to take care of a Karelian, they become faithful companions and inseparable friends.
We saw your video... Makkara looks strong, confident and really having a good time ♥

Thanks bunches 😋😃 everyone for doing your word. You're very right about them needing a lot of space for running & the woods yes one of the reasons they are 🐻 🐕 s. As a matter of fact I was putting Lunafreya on craigslist because I'm a cripple & she needed a home & partner who could take her for runs etc instead of just walking because I can't run, that's why I'm so sad that she got out the day I was going to take her picture & put it on craigslist. Very intelligent 🐕 who learns fast & yes very protective big time she would sleep on my head. It's true there aren't alot of Karelian 🐻🐕 s in America but in Alaska we have more & they are very effective as you say, plus just gorgeous animals. Again right on, rock on with your bad selves.

It has been a pleasure to be able to dedicate a video specifically for you and Lunafreya. Do not punish yourself, it is obvious that you do the best you can for each of your kids. Fate is sometimes capricious, and the fact that you made the difficult decision to put Lunafreya on craigslist shows that you only wanted the best for her and the enormous love you had for her ♥♥♥

This is a North Russian Laika. I had one like this for 12 years. An exceptionally smart dog.

I had a Laika-samoyedi- mix that looked almost exactly like KBD, the hair was little more fluffy. As one vet once said, all arctic breeds are genetically almost the same.
I miss her so much. She was an angel to us her family but hardly paid any attention to strangers. RIP Milla ❤

Are they good guard dogs ?

    • @ABC_animal_kingdom
      @ABC_animal_kingdom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Welcome Mickey scents !!
Devoted and loyal, their protective nature makes KBDs good guard dogs. They are likely to be reserved with strangers and can be very territorial. But they aren't aggressive with humans.
We wish you a great day!

No. I mean they’re dogs, they’re pack animals with some protectiveness, but they’re not bred or built for guarding, and don’t have the temperament for it.

Yes, they do! We love "Bluey" the blue healer, she and her sister are soo smart and mischevious.
Apart from the Blue healer, they also resemble the Schipperkes and the Keeshonds!
      Thanks for your comment!!

@Frances DeGregorio-Forkin We got dieselcowboy777 's point. Look at a blue healer's picture and think of it as a black and white dog... They do have a similar structure

My two Karelians were great with small children, they were very protective of them and saw them as part of their pack. So, I feel this part of the video is incorrect, they can be great Family dogs, especially for us Alaskans.

      Welcome annetteevanssmith !!
Keep in mind that while the every dog breed may have a generic behavior, each individual dog may have different experiences along the way and even learned or inherited.
It is definitely a highly desired trait that you describe in your Karelians.
We appreciate you telling us your personal experience because it can surely be useful to other potential owners (By the way... We are very sorry for your loss).

The only thing making a KBD tired is bear hunting, moose hunting makes them satisfied and relaxed but not mentally tired. Remember this before you get one.

I volunteer at an AZA accredited zoo and often teach people about how these dogs are used to rehab problem bears that are getting too accustomed to humans. The way it’s done isn’t too fun to watch since the dogs bark at the bear while it is in a culvert trap. However, it’s essential that the bear learn that they need to stay away from humans and dogs. I’d rather have the bear be scared of humans and dogs than see them euthanized.
