As a tank i have to cope with being looked down on pvp so....dungeons being my thing. Problem is majority picks a dps to be able do both but in a small party dps are a dime a dozen but a tank and a healer are a must in any party...and in a raid one still needs at least a mt and ot and mh and oh
Shaman was fun, cause you could main as Resto, but still be a greedy asshole and need for all the enhancement pieces. Most people wouldn't complain, as long as I kept the party breathing.
If you haven't notice, they're the lowest level in the queue. And everyone else behind them kept quiet and did not protest. They must have already know what would happen.

Well... really strong dps do dung easy without tank and hel. In my game heal generally heal tank... than I have a lot of autoheal stuff as dps cos I can't really count at heal.
@@sirhana if it’s a new raid, then it’s a top level raid. A top level raid, you need an even party. If the group is nothing but DPSes, then the monsters will swarm EVERYONE, and EVERYONE WILL DIE. Healer and Tank are a minimum requirement. Controller generally makes up for your not all dps party.

Well, that was SWTOR's answer to the long queue problem. They redesigned all dungeons to come with overpowered healing stations to allow DPS only groups to clear them. Of course this had the unintended side effect of making healers dead weight in regular dungeon queues. That said, the hard mode dungeons don't come with the adjustments and still require full groups. They also allow skill and class respecification on the fly to alleviate the long queues in hard modes. And it has definitely helped. The queues in that game aren't nearly as bad as other games.
@@redshirt49 They holy trinity has one major flaw, x10 more players wanna play DPS over Healers and even less want to play tanks. Never understood why though, Tanks were actually easier and more fun to play than healers. SWTOR had terrible operations from the start though. But Raid and pvp wise in the first year of launch Darkness sins(tank) running biochem were probably one of the most OP characters in the game.

Sorcs are easiest and efficient but are very stationary, while resource management is a lot harder on merc and op heals, especially in longer fights. And well people don't like playing tanks because everything about tank builds makes them sucky for efficient solo play, so most people just casually playing will be on dps or healer at any given time.
I played a shaman in WoW, I would sign up as DPS and wait for forever to get a dungeon run, and when eventually got them, someone would invariably ask: "You have a healer build too don't you, would you mind healing/off-healing?" Every...fudging...time. Without fail.
Its not classist, its maintaining a balance. These games try to build on teamwork and strategy but DPS is the weakest in both areas. Everyone wants to be the hero while few are willing to be support is the real problem here.
@@swskitso The main protagonist in such games is anyway the tank. It's the one fighting the boss, while healer(s) and damage supports him. Still, well played dps makes most dungeons a snore fest for tanks and healers, because they bring usually good control and with focus fire anything that could hit the tank will die before it even reach him. @@Traumglanz just because the tank agros the enemy to take the attacks does not make them the main protagonist. In a solo playthrough DPS will always outshine tanks and healers. Who is actually fighting the boss is debatable, the tank may be taking all the hits but may not be able to deliver enough damage before his life is lost, the DPS may be able to deliver the damage but cant stand up to too many attacks himself. I dont play online much, i prefer dnd with actual friends, but i have been playing games regularly for near 30 years and in my experience DPS is your best choice for soloing adventures.
@Tariq Ali I understand the feeling. As a WoW CaTa shaman player here. I grinded elemental gear while questing and got healing gear in dungeons... Hunters and shamans are the only ones using mail armor so lucky us for equipment in ele/resto area. BUT, I would sign up as dps and get healers who where so bad we would have to kick them or tell them to stop healing... they were dps that just got tired of waiting 30min-2h in que. (I was doing achievements that took days to complete so I was fine waiting) Then I would just heal the rest and would be able to finish fine. A bad tank though, was something I did not know how to fix. 1/5 of the 5man dungeons went this way for me, how about for you?

Imagine if they finally let them in after 1 hour queue, only to realize they're on the very last boss and the group has already wiped 4 times because tank and healer are arguing
Or the tank left 10 minutes ago and you got added just as the DPS began to leave in frustration as well, because the estimated waiting time for a new tank is 40 minutes. And the new tank will join right after the healer has left anyway.
Reading all these experiences in comment section makes me wonder why Alan Brock thought a lack of random dungeon finder in vanilla is good argument against launching Classic xD. Sure. Group leaders still may replace you before getting in just for your class or gear, but you usually won't join a dungeon that's already in progress or groups where DPS joined as a tank cause that dungeon is easy anyway and we don't need no tank and you all are just bad. Also vote to kick feature abuse.
Worse is when I do both heal and tank based on need and get people who only do 1 role arguing. Like, dude, i know your job better than you do *and* every elses. Don't argue with good tanks XD
I used to main Healer on wow, the queue is so fast, and I keep getting invited from my guild to raid, but eventually I switched to DPS, because being Healer means you have to deal with Leroy Tanks and Toxic Idiot who will blame you for their own fault...
Do raids in Guild Wars, so people that get downed and killed can tell you you're not doing enough dps, even though you're the only one avoiding getting hit, downed and killed.

I was always a tank. Got into dungeons very easy. Had a veteran teach me the ropes then my guild was always asking when I would be on and what dungeons I was going to do. DPS players drove me nuts stealing Agro or running into battle before I show up with healer.
As someone who plays healers. This is spot on. I have been fortunate to team up with players who appreciate people playing the healer role, and I have seen DPS like those waiting in line.
Yep but you pay the price outside of dungeons. Depending on the game, often even some solo world quests aren't possible, leveling is slow and you get facerolled in PVP. I loved playing a healers back in the early 2000s (WoW, EQ) but I knew what I was signing up for because much of the enjoyment of the game is entirely dependent on other players. If you get a bad tank or DPS that's pulling aggro it's a bad day and you get blamed. Then you get out of the dungeon and everything else is harder for you than it is for anyone else. Gosh, I miss those days. : )
I healed for 6 years in WoW, I remember when Cata launched and they Fucked over healer mana. So many people coming from Wrath still expected healers to heal everything as they leeroyed dungeons. I was vote kicked a lot at the start of Cata, and many a time going into a dungeon DPS and tank would make a comment " hope you're a good healer". And then proceed to leeroy the first group.
@@spencers4121 Yeah, I had dropped WoW before Cata but I can imagine. I was a Vanilla Priest and a really good one too (I think we were top 25 in the world to clear BWL). Then BC came out and they nerfed the hell out of Priest healing which kind of sucked so I drifted away from the game. I came back for WotLK and had fun again but the magic was mostly gone. I got so tired of tanks just racing through instances pulling every trash mob in the game with no regards to tactics, no crowd control, no aggro control....nothing that made Vanilla actually challenging. I loved strategizing every group, marking targets, sheeping one, MCing another, trapping a 3rd and then executing a well-crafted plan. Those were the days...
@@dakedakinson64 In vanilla WoW (or Everquest, WAR Online, etc.) for questing and PvP,, tanks and healers would always be at a severe disadvantage. I remember that in EQ I had to almost always get help questing while some classes could solo and therefore level up faster and on their own time. But in instances? That's when the tables are turned and DPS gets the short end of the stick. Healers and tanks rule because most people weren't willing to suffer the leveling/PvP disadvantages. And you had to have tanks and healers to make it through that content.
Lol, my first WoW character was a shadow priest, back during classic. Can't tell you how many groups i was booted for being DPS instead of heals. But then, why would i want to be healer? They were criticized so mercilessly whenever the party wiped, and of course, the teams failure could never be the tanks fault! Unless you are the Tank, then your thinking, "I'm up the creek because this failed team can never be the healers fault! I get blamed for everything!" There was no winning! :) One memory i vividly have from The Burning Crusade period, was when our main raiding tank got so sick of tanking, that he literally vendored all his gear so that he would never have to tank again! But you know, that was such a huge flipping the bird to all the guild, and especially to all the DPS. The DPS were the bottom rung on gear drop priority. But we were not only expected to defer to tanks and healers on gear drops, we were also expected to sacrifice our crafting resources and cooldowns to outfit the tanks and healers. At the same time we were supposed to miraculously gear ourselves too, and perform top tier as DPS. Usually what actually happened was our guild was used as a stepping stone for tanks and healers to get some basic gear, then move on to a better guild. Rude, yes, but at the same time i can't really blame them for taking advantage of us when we were operating under such screwed up policy! That guild was just one supremely dysfunctional collective! :)
@@budahbaba7856 Yeah thats messed up. I would have left that guild for sure. I only played WoW a bit and was DPS but became healer in FF14. There people are pretty chill and unless the healer is a complete failure they usually leave them alone. The way the game is set up you can really tell who's fault it is.
@@blackmagick77 One game i miss often is Guild Wars, by Arena Net. In that game, while it certainly did help to have healer & tank on your team, it was not absolutely critical. And the nice thing about it was that it was super easy to re-shuffle your characters focus depending on the line up you were playing with and/or against. There were a lot of people who got down on it because of how streamlined and PvP oriented it was, but it served that aspect well, with minimal investment needed by the player to master a class. You could sit down with it and get a handle on your character concept in a short amount of time, and be ready to rock. It was fun. However, all good things must come to an end, and something that poisoned it after a while was the Wikki builds by the math crunchers that popularized overly optimized, cookie cutter builds over the more personalized custom builds like i preferred. Once you knew that all your team mates and opponents were using cookie cutter Wikki builds, that ruined the coolest thing that GW had been about -being able to bring a hero to the fight that was about your own play style and priorities as a team mate! :)

Outside of certain HMs healers aren't needed in ESO dungeons. Well, GOOD healer can make GOOD DPSs do more damage than he would've done as a 3d DPS, but outside of guild farm groups you are highly unlikely to find good DPS. Furthermore, every GOOD DPS farmed maelstorm arena and thus have no problem in tanking ESO dungeons either.

@@greenfox3010 that's the issue. If someone wants to play healer, because that's what they enjoy doing with their time, the system ought to enable them to do that, and the same goes for other roles. No one is saying they don't understand why the paradigm exists, but no player is to blame for the fact that people can't play how they want. It's free time, not a job, the ideal situation would be that nobody gets a penalty for playing the way they want to play to wind down after a hard day's work. It's not clear how it should be fixed, but the point is a DPS is not to blame for the fact that queues exist, the very nature of cooperative RPG's is

Now you can still have beef sometime dont worry, you dont always have to eat chicken if you dont want too. but if you start blaming your mother for giving you chicken then i say thats a bit silly. Now, replace mother with mmo, replace chicken with dps role and beef with tank/healer and there ya go. "But i dont want to pick thats my whole point!!!!!" then go eat somewere else or cook yourself or whatever. lots of people do like having to pick and having a trade off.

The worst is when the dps starts queuing up as healers and tanks. We then can't get through the dungeon because we dont have a healer nor a tank and they blame everyone else for why we fail.
@@tatfly5779 I tanked as a rogue for a little while in lich king. Had to convince folks in dungeons to let me do it since queue finder wouldn't allow it obviously but it was surprisingly fun for awhile. Then blizz went "Oh HEEEEELL no!" and did some nerfs...
When 90% off the playerbase is DPS, and the game is balanced around having variety, well, You get exactly that. If the game was balanced for DPS only, the other classes would be redundant, and the entire idea of a party would be pointless

Extra annoying in ESO that the party size is 4 so you only have 2 dps spots instead of the more commonly used 3. And I think only Age Of Conan had 4dps spots.
Which also leads to "fake tanks" and "fake healers"... which is fine if you at least know some basic stuff to pull off the role, like a magdps adding in a few heals to the rotation, or a stamdps adding in some taunts from Undaunted. But the feeling you get when there's a fake tank queing for a Vet dungeon, who rushes in and aggros three groups, gets all of us killed and then leaves, sigh...
Now do the one where if you're the healer, you get all the blame and none of the credit, because the only time anyone notices you is if you make a mistake.
Eh, I feel like if the dungeon goes smooth the tank/healer get props. Though bad dps blaming you for not keeping them alive after they draw aggro was definitely pretty common in pick up groups.
True you either get a really nice team that thank you for doing good and understands a few mistakes (Rare) or people that complain you aren't healing after helping someone else for 3 seconds
@@SEAkuaa i feel that. ESO Altmer templar healer , i stop spamming for 3 secs to get a heavy attack in to replenish my manna and they blame me when they die. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS INFINATE MAGICA YOU CANNOT SPAM ENDLESSLY. to be clear my healer is not the ' meta ' of race / class matchups but she does a pretty good job and has done trials before if youve never played that game it is a very hard 12 man job of a dungeon 2 tank 2 healer 8 dps.
"The Manager" is a great name for such an OP weapon. I remember in 2010 when everyone was naming their weapons "The Ex-Wife" after Iron Man 2 came out.
That's why my first character is always a healer. Then I notice I can't do sh*t in the overworld alone and make a dps for soloplay who ends up becoming my main by virtue of being the only one I can play whenever I want without having to form groups with randos...
@@turbobacon5945 That's a PvP battleground and not subject of the discussion since you're not limited to any specific roles in PvP queues. We're talking about Dungeon finder here and there you need a tank and a healer.
I remember a game I used to play where the GMs had a weapon that upon hit would remove all your gear, empty your bank and vault, and banned you for life; worked on the whole account across servers. The weapon could only work on targeted enemies. The GMs would often post pictures or videos of their kills. Fuck the gold farmers, they got what they fucking deserved.
@@talha7309 it means they're specifically meant to do high and consistent damage As opposed to burst, which is very high damage on long cooldown abilities; tanks/healer/buffer which don't do a lot of damage but rather soak damage/heal/improve the damage or tankiness of allies

@@ppytal Dps do damage, tanks have a slap fight with mobs/boss and healer makes sure tank can keep having a slap fight with the baddies and putting out the booboos that dps got when they were making best friends with the boss aoe attacks.
As someone who usually plays a tank or a healer hybrid I know the feeling of being able to skip those lines... but when I was playing Everquest, LDON's, in particular, I might as well have been an 'untouchable plague carrier with bad breath'. I was had three hour waits and then would have to do a dungeon I didn't want to do because the healer decided they needed another dungeon and nobody wants to lose the healer.
I used to play everquest back in the day and decided cleric because I read it was good at getting groups looool I had zero downtime, and as for fun, I liked to play "optimize your mana by always using complete healing"... fun for the whole group
late reply but i do have to say in EQ LDON days I was a bard, i received tells within seconds of logging on almost every time i did so. I couldn't get a break I had to go anon if i wanted to do anything but pull LDON's....

Seriously though...I miss EQ and Wow from time to time but I don't miss the ques (Wow was better for me since I played a Paladin and a shaman as mains, lets just say I didn't have to wait long in queues for tanking/healing.)

Yeah, I specifically only rolled tanks and healers after a couple years bc I was tired of waiting for dungeons all the time. If you have a couple buddies and can tank, heal, dps, you’re in heaven. Though you still get clowns who manage to screw things up(I’m looking at the mage butt-pulling the mobs in the back hallway.) I have trauma! 🤣
That's why I played as a Priest in WoW and spec'd as Shadow. People would invite me and then I would go shadow form in the middle of the dungeon. I learned a lot of curse words in a lot of languages doing this.
As a healer main in MMORPGS i can attest to this. everyone lets me in on a party and we dungeon pretty fast meanwhile there are tons of party in the queue with shit tons of DPS asking for healers and tanks.
@@namekman01 On the Nostralia vanilla WoW private server, tanks and healers were abundant, and DPS were routinely in demand. It was a weird place, and I felt weird being brought in as DPS even though I was tank spec.
I remember in the good old days of WOW I had a tank character while my friends had dps characters and they were so shocked seeing my instant groups when I looked for dungeons it was literally one click. Of course the problem with being a tank is that everything is your fault so toxic people will abuse you.
I remember solo queuing as DPS in ESO once... was literally waiting 24 hours to do a single dungeon. Queued with a tank from my guild... near instant queue- and the tank said something about it being slower than usual.
@@DeadlierHades Yes, dps is damage per second. This video applies to MMOs in general (and ESO is a MMO). Four player dungeons can be fun, but unfortunately well over half of the people queue up as dps instead of going for a tank or healer.

Hello guys, after discovering your content last month i just finished watching every single episode of Epic NPC Man and every episode of NPC D&D. Now I'm well behind on playing Kingdoms of Amalur for the sixteenth time but it was worth it. You are great.
Uhm I would play extensively tank and healer. I have never waited more than 1 minute for a que in any given game. I'm not here to quest and wait. I'm hear to carry some people with them phar heals and blocks
I almost exclusively play tank as sword and shields are my favorite weapon combo and those are almost always tanks lol. That said I find tank gameplay a lot more engaging. Your role dictates the party wiping or not. Managing aggro and keeping people alive. I've always found the dps hit this until its dead boring.

@@sidhebane Not in WoW, because half of the classes can't queue as anything other than DPS no matter what. In most MMOs these days, all or most classes can queue as either tank or healer even if they aren't prepared to fulfill that role properly. But basic dungeons almost never actually need those roles fulfilled properly, anyway.

Nope. Damage per second. Also referred to as DOT (damage over time). Basically, attacks that do initial damage and continue doing damage for a set amount of time (ex. poisons, fire damage).
@@aikosachi7138 It helps that people can always opt to switch into tanking or healing. Same thing in SWTOR which has groups of only 4, but SWTOR also lets you stick a companion onto the job you don't want most times. WoW has several classes which don't have the option of tanking or healing, so if you want even to be able to off-tank or off-heal in a pinch, you simply can't play as those classes, thus increasing the ratio of DPS to tanks and healers.
I'd really like to see some more videos of this theme / characters. I.e maybe they try to sneak in, or "change characters " and still get denied, etc. This is a fun concept and I hope there are more like it, keep killin it VLDL !
I would love to see a version when the bouncer had enough and lets in a group full of dps only and they get annihilated in there. Also one about a dps cutting the line because he queed in a party with a tank.
It is soo true... I play ESO and fortunately I am Tank main... but in ESO there exists a term "Fake Tank" or "Fake Healer". It is basically DPS queuing as other role (no gear & stat check in ESO), because DPS queue time is ridiculous (Too many people play as DPS). So "Fake Tank" & "Fake Healer" could be a topic for next video...
this is a common fact yet developers refuse to make tanking or healing more fun thus when people play what they actually like this is always the result :/
@@AphoticGoblin They're fun when you have a group. If you're solo leveling Tanks and healers generally suck because they can't really dish out the damage required to properly kill mobs.
I don't know about the situation now, but when I played, most dungeons can be easily cleared with 1-2 hybrid builds. As long as the main tank is solid, it doesn't hurt if you have a half healer or half tank. We'd just negotiate who's gonna do what once inside lol
As someone who played most major MMOs it actually made me more think of WoWs lockout penalty. If you do too many dungeons in an hour it tells you you can't enter another for a while. Both XIV and WoW also have bonuses for roles in demand and first daily completion. The two games are more similar than you'd think.
the other reason is that tired DPSers join a queue and just afk autoshoot in the back and get a free ride and that's why other DPS 'can't have nice things'
If the stories of my teachers about their teachers are to be believed, once upon a time, they basically did! Back in the dark ages of corporeal punishment, one teacher had a custom-made ruler to strike fear in the hearts of those about to receive a smack across their bums. It was constructed to be quite sturdy, with holes drilled through it, so the victim could hear the impending consequences of their life choices catching up to them.

For those that don’t understand what’s going on in this skit: I’m MMORPGs, when queuing for a dungeon, you often need to wait for a full party of 4-5 to enter. This includes 1 Tank, 1 Healer, and 2-3 Damage Dealers. Unlike DMG, TNK’s and HLR’s are absolutely necessary to the success of the dungeon. Their roles require a lot of responsibility and stress, unlike the later. This is why typically, the ratio of players in those roles is 15/30/55. If there are more damage dealers queuing for a dungeon than there are available tanks and healers, then they must wait.
@@willowscottling DPS stands for Damage Per Second if you haven’t figured that out yet. It basically denotes your role as the guy who deals the most damage in the shortest amount of time.

Yay, Alan! Hunters represent! (Just missing the pet next to him, making annoying, repetitive noises!😝) As someone who played ranged dps in WoW for years, this is ridic accurate. There were a few golden moments though, when a Hunter was needed - kiting a boss in UBRS, doing a misdirect pull in Grull’s lair, spam cc’ing w/ frost trap in the Moroes fight in Karazhan… I lived for those!! 🤣😂

As someone who specializes as a healer, I can definitely confirm this XD Typically about 95% of players main as dps and the other 5% are healers and tanks, as a result it is almost instant access whenever the 5% que up. XD
It is mentioned in places that, while necessary back in the day when tanks, healers, and DPS's had compartmentalized jobs, each supporting the other, the main problem with DPS's nowadays is that since tanks, healers, and hybrids can all perform the same job as a DPS, in some cases even better then they can, that DPS's are considered fairly redundant, and not really needed or required anymore.

The most needed class but also everything pins on you when the party fails. Doesn't matter that the DPS kept pulling agro from the tank and you as the healer having to apologize to the rest of the team cause you are trying all you can to keep the idiots alive.. it's your fault

As a tank i have to cope with being looked down on pvp so....dungeons being my thing. Problem is majority picks a dps to be able do both but in a small party dps are a dime a dozen but a tank and a healer are a must in any party...and in a raid one still needs at least a mt and ot and mh and oh
Shaman was fun, cause you could main as Resto, but still be a greedy asshole and need for all the enhancement pieces. Most people wouldn't complain, as long as I kept the party breathing.

Well... really strong dps do dung easy without tank and hel. In my game heal generally heal tank... than I have a lot of autoheal stuff as dps cos I can't really count at heal.

Well, that was SWTOR's answer to the long queue problem. They redesigned all dungeons to come with overpowered healing stations to allow DPS only groups to clear them.
Of course this had the unintended side effect of making healers dead weight in regular dungeon queues.
That said, the hard mode dungeons don't come with the adjustments and still require full groups. They also allow skill and class respecification on the fly to alleviate the long queues in hard modes. And it has definitely helped. The queues in that game aren't nearly as bad as other games.
@@redshirt49 They holy trinity has one major flaw, x10 more players wanna play DPS over Healers and even less want to play tanks. Never understood why though, Tanks were actually easier and more fun to play than healers. SWTOR had terrible operations from the start though. But Raid and pvp wise in the first year of launch Darkness sins(tank) running biochem were probably one of the most OP characters in the game.
@@nikushim6665 depends on the type of healer you are. Sorcs are easiest and efficient but are very stationary, while resource management is a lot harder on merc and op heals, especially in longer fights.
And well people don't like playing tanks because everything about tank builds makes them sucky for efficient solo play, so most people just casually playing will be on dps or healer at any given time.
I see that as a win-win. You don't need healing if the enemies are dead before they can hit you! Or just bring a shit ton of pots.

I played a shaman in WoW, I would sign up as DPS and wait for forever to get a dungeon run, and when eventually got them, someone would invariably ask: "You have a healer build too don't you, would you mind healing/off-healing?"

These games try to build on teamwork and strategy but DPS is the weakest in both areas.
Everyone wants to be the hero while few are willing to be support is the real problem here.

Still, well played dps makes most dungeons a snore fest for tanks and healers, because they bring usually good control and with focus fire anything that could hit the tank will die before it even reach him. (slows 4tw btw)

In a solo playthrough DPS will always outshine tanks and healers.
Who is actually fighting the boss is debatable, the tank may be taking all the hits but may not be able to deliver enough damage before his life is lost, the DPS may be able to deliver the damage but cant stand up to too many attacks himself.
I dont play online much, i prefer dnd with actual friends, but i have been playing games regularly for near 30 years and in my experience DPS is your best choice for soloing adventures.

As a WoW CaTa shaman player here. I grinded elemental gear while questing and got healing gear in dungeons... Hunters and shamans are the only ones using mail armor so lucky us for equipment in ele/resto area. BUT, I would sign up as dps and get healers who where so bad we would have to kick them or tell them to stop healing... they were dps that just got tired of waiting 30min-2h in que. (I was doing achievements that took days to complete so I was fine waiting)
Then I would just heal the rest and would be able to finish fine. A bad tank though, was something I did not know how to fix.
1/5 of the 5man dungeons went this way for me, how about for you?

There is always stuff like bozja, if you don't mind the tedious suffering. It gives a lot of xp.

Imagine if they finally let them in after 1 hour queue, only to realize they're on the very last boss and the group has already wiped 4 times because tank and healer are arguing
Or the tank left 10 minutes ago and you got added just as the DPS began to leave in frustration as well, because the estimated waiting time for a new tank is 40 minutes. And the new tank will join right after the healer has left anyway.
Reading all these experiences in comment section makes me wonder why Alan Brock thought a lack of random dungeon finder in vanilla is good argument against launching Classic xD.
Sure. Group leaders still may replace you before getting in just for your class or gear, but you usually won't join a dungeon that's already in progress or groups where DPS joined as a tank cause that dungeon is easy anyway and we don't need no tank and you all are just bad.

I used to main Healer on wow, the queue is so fast, and I keep getting invited from my guild to raid, but eventually I switched to DPS, because being Healer means you have to deal with Leroy Tanks and Toxic Idiot who will blame you for their own fault...
Do raids in Guild Wars, so people that get downed and killed can tell you you're not doing enough dps, even though you're the only one avoiding getting hit, downed and killed.

I was always a tank. Got into dungeons very easy. Had a veteran teach me the ropes then my guild was always asking when I would be on and what dungeons I was going to do.
DPS players drove me nuts stealing Agro or running into battle before I show up with healer.

As someone who plays healers. This is spot on. I have been fortunate to team up with players who appreciate people playing the healer role, and I have seen DPS like those waiting in line.
Yep but you pay the price outside of dungeons. Depending on the game, often even some solo world quests aren't possible, leveling is slow and you get facerolled in PVP. I loved playing a healers back in the early 2000s (WoW, EQ) but I knew what I was signing up for because much of the enjoyment of the game is entirely dependent on other players. If you get a bad tank or DPS that's pulling aggro it's a bad day and you get blamed. Then you get out of the dungeon and everything else is harder for you than it is for anyone else.

I healed for 6 years in WoW, I remember when Cata launched and they Fucked over healer mana. So many people coming from Wrath still expected healers to heal everything as they leeroyed dungeons. I was vote kicked a lot at the start of Cata, and many a time going into a dungeon DPS and tank would make a comment " hope you're a good healer". And then proceed to leeroy the first group.
@@spencers4121 Yeah, I had dropped WoW before Cata but I can imagine. I was a Vanilla Priest and a really good one too (I think we were top 25 in the world to clear BWL). Then BC came out and they nerfed the hell out of Priest healing which kind of sucked so I drifted away from the game.
I came back for WotLK and had fun again but the magic was mostly gone. I got so tired of tanks just racing through instances pulling every trash mob in the game with no regards to tactics, no crowd control, no aggro control....nothing that made Vanilla actually challenging. I loved strategizing every group, marking targets, sheeping one, MCing another, trapping a 3rd and then executing a well-crafted plan. Those were the days...

@@dakedakinson64 In vanilla WoW (or Everquest, WAR Online, etc.) for questing and PvP,, tanks and healers would always be at a severe disadvantage. I remember that in EQ I had to almost always get help questing while some classes could solo and therefore level up faster and on their own time.
But in instances? That's when the tables are turned and DPS gets the short end of the stick. Healers and tanks rule because most people weren't willing to suffer the leveling/PvP disadvantages. And you had to have tanks and healers to make it through that content.

I always play healer!! Back when I played WoW I always got into raids.
Lol, my first WoW character was a shadow priest, back during classic. Can't tell you how many groups i was booted for being DPS instead of heals. But then, why would i want to be healer? They were criticized so mercilessly whenever the party wiped, and of course, the teams failure could never be the tanks fault! Unless you are the Tank, then your thinking, "I'm up the creek because this failed team can never be the healers fault! I get blamed for everything!" There was no winning! :) One memory i vividly have from The Burning Crusade period, was when our main raiding tank got so sick of tanking, that he literally vendored all his gear so that he would never have to tank again! But you know, that was such a huge flipping the bird to all the guild, and especially to all the DPS. The DPS were the bottom rung on gear drop priority. But we were not only expected to defer to tanks and healers on gear drops, we were also expected to sacrifice our crafting resources and cooldowns to outfit the tanks and healers. At the same time we were supposed to miraculously gear ourselves too, and perform top tier as DPS. Usually what actually happened was our guild was used as a stepping stone for tanks and healers to get some basic gear, then move on to a better guild. Rude, yes, but at the same time i can't really blame them for taking advantage of us when we were operating under such screwed up policy! That guild was just one supremely dysfunctional collective! :)
@@budahbaba7856 Yeah thats messed up. I would have left that guild for sure. I only played WoW a bit and was DPS but became healer in FF14. There people are pretty chill and unless the healer is a complete failure they usually leave them alone.
The way the game is set up you can really tell who's fault it is.
@@blackmagick77 One game i miss often is Guild Wars, by Arena Net. In that game, while it certainly did help to have healer & tank on your team, it was not absolutely critical. And the nice thing about it was that it was super easy to re-shuffle your characters focus depending on the line up you were playing with and/or against. There were a lot of people who got down on it because of how streamlined and PvP oriented it was, but it served that aspect well, with minimal investment needed by the player to master a class. You could sit down with it and get a handle on your character concept in a short amount of time, and be ready to rock. It was fun. However, all good things must come to an end, and something that poisoned it after a while was the Wikki builds by the math crunchers that popularized overly optimized, cookie cutter builds over the more personalized custom builds like i preferred. Once you knew that all your team mates and opponents were using cookie cutter Wikki builds, that ruined the coolest thing that GW had been about -being able to bring a hero to the fight that was about your own play style and priorities as a team mate! :)

Haven't played for a couple of years, but that's why you only run with guild.
Outside of certain HMs healers aren't needed in ESO dungeons. Well, GOOD healer can make GOOD DPSs do more damage than he would've done as a 3d DPS, but outside of guild farm groups you are highly unlikely to find good DPS. Furthermore, every GOOD DPS farmed maelstorm arena and thus have no problem in tanking ESO dungeons either.

I think the most realistic part of this skit is the near incoherent screaming of the DPS demanding that someone else fix the issue that they themselves are a part of.

@@greenfox3010 that's the issue. If someone wants to play healer, because that's what they enjoy doing with their time, the system ought to enable them to do that, and the same goes for other roles. No one is saying they don't understand why the paradigm exists, but no player is to blame for the fact that people can't play how they want. It's free time, not a job, the ideal situation would be that nobody gets a penalty for playing the way they want to play to wind down after a hard day's work. It's not clear how it should be fixed, but the point is a DPS is not to blame for the fact that queues exist, the very nature of cooperative RPG's is

If your mother asked if you want chicken or beef for dinner and you pick chicken then you "lock yourself" into eating chicken.
Now you can still have beef sometime dont worry, you dont always have to eat chicken if you dont want too. but if you start blaming your mother for giving you chicken then i say thats a bit silly.

When 90% off the playerbase is DPS, and the game is balanced around having variety, well, You get exactly that. If the game was balanced for DPS only, the other classes would be redundant, and the entire idea of a party would be pointless

Extra annoying in ESO that the party size is 4 so you only have 2 dps spots instead of the more commonly used 3. And I think only Age Of Conan had 4dps spots.
In FF14 its not better 4man party 2dps 1tank 1healer as a dps you need long time to find a dungeon but aa a healer a few seconds....

Fake tank and fake healer!! Hit hard and fast boys and gals because either the boss isn't going to stand still or there is no heals.
Which also leads to "fake tanks" and "fake healers"... which is fine if you at least know some basic stuff to pull off the role, like a magdps adding in a few heals to the rotation, or a stamdps adding in some taunts from Undaunted. But the feeling you get when there's a fake tank queing for a Vet dungeon, who rushes in and aggros three groups, gets all of us killed and then leaves, sigh...

Eh, I feel like if the dungeon goes smooth the tank/healer get props. Though bad dps blaming you for not keeping them alive after they draw aggro was definitely pretty common in pick up groups.
The same thing goes for tanks. The tanks and healers are the scapegoats of mmorpgs.
True you either get a really nice team that thank you for doing good and understands a few mistakes (Rare) or people that complain you aren't healing after helping someone else for 3 seconds
@@SEAkuaa i feel that. ESO Altmer templar healer , i stop spamming for 3 secs to get a heavy attack in to replenish my manna and they blame me when they die. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS INFINATE MAGICA YOU CANNOT SPAM ENDLESSLY. to be clear my healer is not the ' meta ' of race / class matchups but she does a pretty good job and has done trials before if youve never played that game it is a very hard 12 man job of a dungeon 2 tank 2 healer 8 dps.

I remember a game I used to play where the GMs had a weapon that upon hit would remove all your gear, empty your bank and vault, and banned you for life; worked on the whole account across servers. The weapon could only work on targeted enemies. The GMs would often post pictures or videos of their kills.

@@ppytal Dps do damage, tanks have a slap fight with mobs/boss and healer makes sure tank can keep having a slap fight with the baddies and putting out the booboos that dps got when they were making best friends with the boss aoe attacks.

As someone who usually plays a tank or a healer hybrid I know the feeling of being able to skip those lines... but when I was playing Everquest, LDON's, in particular, I might as well have been an 'untouchable plague carrier with bad breath'. I was had three hour waits and then would have to do a dungeon I didn't want to do because the healer decided they needed another dungeon and nobody wants to lose the healer.
I used to play everquest back in the day and decided cleric because I read it was good at getting groups looool I had zero downtime, and as for fun, I liked to play "optimize your mana by always using complete healing"... fun for the whole group

This strikes home in just the most painful way. That's why my buddies played healer and tank. I rode their coattails through the queue and they rode my deeps through the dungeon!
Yeah, I specifically only rolled tanks and healers after a couple years bc I was tired of waiting for dungeons all the time. If you have a couple buddies and can tank, heal, dps, you’re in heaven. Though you still get clowns who manage to screw things up(I’m looking at the mage butt-pulling the mobs in the back hallway.)

That's why I played as a Priest in WoW and spec'd as Shadow. People would invite me and then I would go shadow form in the middle of the dungeon. I learned a lot of curse words in a lot of languages doing this.

As a healer main in MMORPGS i can attest to this. everyone lets me in on a party and we dungeon pretty fast meanwhile there are tons of party in the queue with shit tons of DPS asking for healers and tanks.
thats the main reason i play as tank or healer when i can. im never not in demand.

@@namekman01 On the Nostralia vanilla WoW private server, tanks and healers were abundant, and DPS were routinely in demand. It was a weird place, and I felt weird being brought in as DPS even though I was tank spec.
I remember in the good old days of WOW I had a tank character while my friends had dps characters and they were so shocked seeing my instant groups when I looked for dungeons it was literally one click.
Of course the problem with being a tank is that everything is your fault so toxic people will abuse you.
I remember solo queuing as DPS in ESO once... was literally waiting 24 hours to do a single dungeon. Queued with a tank from my guild... near instant queue- and the tank said something about it being slower than usual.
Yes, it's common queuing as a tank to get matched before you can get back to the main menu.

Four player dungeons can be fun, but unfortunately well over half of the people queue up as dps instead of going for a tank or healer.

Hello guys, after discovering your content last month i just finished watching every single episode of Epic NPC Man and every episode of NPC D&D. Now I'm well behind on playing Kingdoms of Amalur for the sixteenth time but it was worth it. You are great.
I love this video. It's extremely accurate. It's easy to get into dungeons as a tank and healer. Nobody wants to play as a tank or healer.
Uhm I would play extensively tank and healer. I have never waited more than 1 minute for a que in any given game. I'm not here to quest and wait. I'm hear to carry some people with them phar heals and blocks
I almost exclusively play tank as sword and shields are my favorite weapon combo and those are almost always tanks lol. That said I find tank gameplay a lot more engaging. Your role dictates the party wiping or not. Managing aggro and keeping people alive. I've always found the dps hit this until its dead boring.
More people would play tank healer more if lvling them was easier

@@sidhebane Not in WoW, because half of the classes can't queue as anything other than DPS no matter what. In most MMOs these days, all or most classes can queue as either tank or healer even if they aren't prepared to fulfill that role properly. But basic dungeons almost never actually need those roles fulfilled properly, anyway.

Nope. Damage per second. Also referred to as DOT (damage over time). Basically, attacks that do initial damage and continue doing damage for a set amount of time (ex. poisons, fire damage).
It actually stands for damage per second. But it a short for damage dealers.
This was so genius to make the waiting queue a nightclub line. I mean even down to how healers wear skimpy cloth such a good comparison!

I played a black mage in ff14. Now I play eso and instantly switched to a tank haha. No more queue times.
@@aikosachi7138 It helps that people can always opt to switch into tanking or healing. Same thing in SWTOR which has groups of only 4, but SWTOR also lets you stick a companion onto the job you don't want most times. WoW has several classes which don't have the option of tanking or healing, so if you want even to be able to off-tank or off-heal in a pinch, you simply can't play as those classes, thus increasing the ratio of DPS to tanks and healers.
Atleast you can change to tank/healer in ff14 in if you have them leveled up.
Inside the Manager Sword a voice can be heard, " What´s going on?"

It is soo true... I play ESO and fortunately I am Tank main... but in ESO there exists a term "Fake Tank" or "Fake Healer". It is basically DPS queuing as other role (no gear & stat check in ESO), because DPS queue time is ridiculous (Too many people play as DPS). So "Fake Tank" & "Fake Healer" could be a topic for next video...
this is a common fact yet developers refuse to make tanking or healing more fun thus when people play what they actually like this is always the result :/
I honestly don't mind fake tanks or fake healers as long as the other 3 main dps are really good lol. Or else the fakes are getting the boot for sure.

I don't know about the situation now, but when I played, most dungeons can be easily cleared with 1-2 hybrid builds. As long as the main tank is solid, it doesn't hurt if you have a half healer or half tank. We'd just negotiate who's gonna do what once inside lol

It reminded me of instance lockout in World of Warcraft due to being in too many instances recently.
As someone who played most major MMOs it actually made me more think of WoWs lockout penalty. If you do too many dungeons in an hour it tells you you can't enter another for a while.
Both XIV and WoW also have bonuses for roles in demand and first daily completion. The two games are more similar than you'd think.
the other reason is that tired DPSers join a queue and just afk autoshoot in the back and get a free ride and that's why other DPS 'can't have nice things'

For those that don’t understand what’s going on in this skit: I’m MMORPGs, when queuing for a dungeon, you often need to wait for a full party of 4-5 to enter. This includes 1 Tank, 1 Healer, and 2-3 Damage Dealers. Unlike DMG, TNK’s and HLR’s are absolutely necessary to the success of the dungeon. Their roles require a lot of responsibility and stress, unlike the later. This is why typically, the ratio of players in those roles is 15/30/55. If there are more damage dealers queuing for a dungeon than there are available tanks and healers, then they must wait.

And that, my friends, is why I played a Druid in WoW. Cat DPS solo, Bear tank for 5 man dungeons, and Cowman Healer for raids.
This is a fundamental problem with a wide range of games. The way the class system is implemented just makes DPS more fun than other classes.

As someone who played ranged dps in WoW for years, this is ridic accurate. There were a few golden moments though, when a Hunter was needed - kiting a boss in UBRS, doing a misdirect pull in Grull’s lair, spam cc’ing w/ frost trap in the Moroes fight in Karazhan… I lived for those!! 🤣😂

It is mentioned in places that, while necessary back in the day when tanks, healers, and DPS's had compartmentalized jobs, each supporting the other, the main problem with DPS's nowadays is that since tanks, healers, and hybrids can all perform the same job as a DPS, in some cases even better then they can, that DPS's are considered fairly redundant, and not really needed or required anymore.
