    I was homeschooled until 6th grade. At that point, my parents decided to send my sister and I to school. Now, here I am at age 37 considering becoming a PA... we'll see how this goes. Thanks for the videos!

    In my first semester of PA School right now, the material isn’t difficult, you just barely have any time to absorb an enormous volume of information; coupled with 2-3 exams per week -> high stress

    Thank you for this. I’m a pre-pa but I’ve been having doubts from such negative comments from PAs on Reddit. But as my coworker said “the grass is green where you water it”. So you have to work hard to get a good job as a PA.

      I find Reddit can be an echo chamber of negativity. So be careful using Reddit. Because a good portion of those people are disgruntled in one way or another. If not, most would not be on Reddit.

    Thank you for your video. I have been a PA for over 8 years and have seen a lot. I think reverting the title back to the original Physician Associate is a huge step forward. I worked for 2 major companies in my field (dermatology) and both told me they preferred hiring NP's over PA's because NP's don't have to recertify and didn't need a supervising physician. It's less expensive and less liability for physicians to keep them on staff. Also, they often have a doctorate degree, which patients prefer over anything with a word assistant in it. I see a better future for PA's with the title change and possibly gaining more autonomy, but as of right now I would recommend med school or NP school over PA. I was just as exstatic about being a PA for the first couple of years after graduation. A doc in my friend makes $400k a year and a PA 130K, if a doc has Mohs fellowship they'll be close to $1M and PA working for a Mohs doc close to $200.

      @kevinzhang6623 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Should change it to "General Practitioner" or "Medical Practitioner" or "General Clinician". If NP's are at the same level and can be independent, then they should take a look at the PA curriculum and ask themselves why that curriculum is more limited to PA's, and maybe add a few more months to a year or some months or a year maybe more of a required fellowship or residency to gain confidence of those who don't know what they're talking about. But perhaps they don't want this profession to be anything more than it is.

    • @lilylife4426
      @lilylife4426 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinzhang6623 PA curriculum is similar to med school already, it's stronger than NP curriculum. My PA school was 3 years, adding another year would make it med school. Now that they voted to change the assistant to associate the autonomy will be following next. It's going to take some time. nurses have their own board, PAs are part of the medical board run by doctors, that's why no one advocates for PAs like nurses do for themselves.

      @benjaminpinney8509 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not a PA, but I think PA is good for those who want more flexibility in their career and shorter training and who aren't concerned with overseeing the whole healthcare team. MD/DO is for people who want a leadership position and want a very deep understanding of things. Lots of training time in this, since you've got 4 years med school and then 3-7 of residency before you can even start being an attending. Just some things to think about. Again, not a PA, it's just my understanding. I figured I'd give what info I have since she hasn't answered you :)

    Its so nice to see women in medical profession and not being consumed by consumerism marketing.
    Like yeah its fun to make of women shopping but like women kind of know like being a doctor or in the medical field is way more worth than like being a wife. Its just education investment is just not equally distributed. I feel like nobody talks about how covertly rampant undereducated girls/ women are. And if you did make it cool like who are the people cracking the hierarchy of distribution of medical education and job sector.
    Like one of big thing is why aren't there just African american doctors and staff on every level. Yeah what is medical.

      Hi! I'm a current PA student finishing my first year & hope I can help answer your question. This sounds so vague but honestly, the more you focus on (both medical & not), the better you'll do-- not only in school but on the job too! I was a med-surg volunteer & medical assistant prior to school & was cross-trained in literally everything from insurance to hands on assisting in various procedures. I'm glad I worked "too hard" according to my coworkers because literally everything I spent more time on has benefited me. I went out of my way to learn anatomy, pharmacology, insurance, talking to patients, active listening skills, medical protocol, clinical reasoning, referrals... you name it! If you have PA's, MD's, NP's that you have a good relationship with, express your interest in becoming a PA to them & feel free to ask them questions too (I would ask why prescribe certain meds, about anatomy or diagnosis I wasn't familiar with, etc.)
      It's not always easy, especially when you're working hard as it is, but it has helped me so much. I think it will help us become more well-rounded clinicians as you learn a lot about people & the healthcare system. You can get a head-start on not only medical school content, but on empathy, humility, and much more!
