Ash, top tip. Air your bed in the morning. Pull all the covers off and go about your chores for 20 mins or so. Come back and make it.... you are very creative....that chair couldnt have been an easy challenge! .
I do haha, that clip was filmed in the afternoon 🤫😂 it did take me a few days!
@ashmazzina you are a hoot! 😂
Great job!
The cows are called English Long Horn cows - I grew up in Woodford Green and they used to walk down the street and graze in the parks (and people’s front gardens!) I think they are allowed to graze to help preserve the grasslands (better then using machinery) - enjoy upholstering it is a labour of love so nice to have original items in your home 🧡 love the vlog
Hi Ash, just googled it and there are cows in Epping forest for land management purposes and the cows are Longhorns and have lived there for centuries x
Amazing, thank you for letting me know ❤️
@@ashmazzina Thanks for taking us around, really interesting, learn something new every day☺
Smiling as Dougal says hi. I love his little ears... such a sweetheart!
Those bedside tables are lovely... Ive been searching for a pair myself for quite some time, and they do sell well into the high hundreds. Such great deal!
He’s a cutie! Right?! They’re very difficult to find and very often not a matching pair
I’m actually crying in laughter 🤭 😂🙏 You pair are hilarious, love your relationship banter. 🤭❣️Ash your honesty is so refreshing and you have me in giggle fits 😂🫶🏻
Thank you both for the inspiration and laughs ! 😎🫶🏻
So glad you enjoyed haha! Thank you so much 🥰🫶🏻
You have an incredible sense of style.
I love the chair. I would keep it 😏 love the part when you said to Chad can you put the camera on my face.....and Chad said if you insist 🤣🤣
😂
Hi, Ash. I very recently discovered your channel and I love it. And bravo on the chair. You did an amazing job especially for your first time upholstering. You’ve actually inspired me to give it a go.
I love this so much! Good luck ❤️
I don't live in the UK, so I don't know all the appliances which are available to you there. I can confirm that I have had very pleasing results from Kitchen Aid appliances and I understand they are available from retail outlets in the United Kingdom? Worth looking at. Thank you for the video! As a Book Lover, I thank you for all the otherwise unwanted antique books you are rescuing. Your efforts are appreciated. And the chair is progressing beautifully! And preferring the new bathroom paint colour. I like a bathroom to be bright and white!
Pretty insane that was your first attempt with the chair… looks amazing!
Thank you!
You're hilarious. Ash, you always make me laugh ❤to Chad and Dougal PS love Chad's words of encouragement ❤
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you so much 🫶🏻
Hi Ash! I admire your brave and funny attitude to tackle such an upholstering DIY! Bravo! (For me, I wouldn't dare)!LoL! Love the fabric cover and the lighter paint for the walls. I think you know this already...always take your measuring tape with you whenever shopping!? Thank you for a lovely stroll through the "forest." Best wishes!
I always need a tape measure, but always forget to pack one 😂 I need to keep one in the car! Thank you for watching 🫶🏻
Love a Dougal appearance! Would be keen to see in a future video if you've found a creative and beautiful solution for his dog bed/wherever he sleeps?
Great idea!
Hi love your designs but not sure about toothbrushes on that beautiful mirror
Terrible to put your teeth rush at the mirror!! No style at all!!
@@wouterbussink2227”teeth rush”, huh?
ikr! I assume that was just for the ad/video. I can't imagine they'd honestly want such a look against their beautiful mirror.
I echo the sentiments of your letters, your videos are lovely and you are a great presenter. Add a dash of Chad’s dry wit and it makes for wonderful entertainment.
So very kind of you, it really means a lot. Thank you so much!
You are housewife goals for me. Chad is very lucky man. I get so many ideas from you. Thanks❤
Love that so much!
Love the chair…I’d have bought it for double the price! .. I would have steam cleaned it and changed the trim to a contrasting coloured one, popped it into our doggies bedroom..they do have an armchair next to their bed but it’s normal height and they are tiny Chihuahuas so this would be perfect for them..
btw it was originally upholstered so beautifully and professionally with the tacks and stitching.. Upholstery takes years to master and is a true skill.. I, like you, like to strip and ‘practice’ recovering vintage pieces myself and even though I have all the equipment, I’m still devouring hundreds of ‘course’ videos before I attempt any actual upholstery 😵💫.. Great first job.. I’d buy it! 👏 X
I love that your dogs have a bedroom! It’s the perfect size for a Chihuahua, Dougal is just a bit too big haha! It was really well done, shame it ended up in my rookie hands 😂
@@ashmazzina you did a great job Ash.. be proud of your work x
I give you props Ash for that chair. I def wouldn’t have messed w/it! Looks good & I busted up laughing when I saw the size of it. I would have to roll out it if sat in it, lol. Cheers Kirk
It honestly looked bigger in the pictures 😂
I am proud of you for giving this a try. I have redone one chair and it was quite daunting. Yours turned out beautifully.
It looks good from a distance haha, it’s definitely something that needs a lot of practice! Thank you
Ash, well done on your first attempt at upholstery, I think you would enjoy a course doing this, chair looks great. Love the new bathroom colour too, although I also liked the original but as you say it is too dark and you and Chad have to live with it 😘
Thanks so much! I do love the red as well but it’s not the best colour for a main bathroom, a guest loo definitely!
Love this vlog! I bought a chair a few years ago and have been saving to have it professionally upholstered. Now I may try to give it a go myself. Thank you for the inspiration.
Go for it! Let me know how it goes 👏🏼
It is wonderful that you have gained an appreciation for upholstery. Good decision on taking a course and sharing your journey. It'll give you a much greater appreciation for the craft and good workmanship. Combined with your tastes that is sure to bring great value. Stay curious and keep on learning.
I totally agree! Definitely a useful skill to learn 🫶🏻
Oh the dugal groan during the reupholster was adorable. That cream color will definitely brighten up the bathroom without it being white.
He was having a good dream clearly 😂
Epping Forest is common land, so that’s probably why you saw the cow. You could get a flock of sheep and graze them there. LOL. You could then use the wool for stuffing for the chair ! I know the pain of a first attempt at upholstery. The best thing I ever did is a night school course in it. That and flower arranging.
Great job with reupholstered chair, lovely to see Dougal
Thank you!
I think new stuffing for the chair might be a good way to go, but good try. You might enjoy a course or find a good upholsterer to shadow. So many trick to the trade.
Good idea!
Lovely bedside tables- marble interiors will be very useful for your chamber pots 😊
I can’t say they’ll still be used as intended 😂
Oooo that pet shop you went in in Tunbridge Wells was on the telly show Interior Design Challenge a few years ago! How interesting to see it pop up in your video!
How funny! I need to go back and rewatch
@@ashmazzinait’s Series 2 Episode 4 on BBC iPlayer.. one of my favorite episodes ever. I visited Tunbridge Wells for the first time after watching the show and checked out all three shops 🤓
Come sei bravo, you did a fantastic job for your first try upholstery. Watching you and Chad is so enjoyable . Douglas is so adorable.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you ❤️
There is something to be said for sending furniture to be recovered is actually worth its weight in gold. The professionals know what they are doing. And you end up happy. Been there, done that.
Beautiful background music.
Glad you like it!
I am so impressed with the chair great work.
Thank you so much!
Pantile(s) is simply an English compound word: pan+tile - and very simply pronounced. Most of the ceramic roofs in the UK are pantiles. The Pantiles in Tunbridge was early on paved with pantiles, hence the name. Your upholstery perseverance was truly admirable!
Hi Ash,I really love your videos, and I adore your taste! We are also in the middle of a home renovation. I’m a dental hygienist by profession, and recently, a few of my patients have mentioned that they use this toothbrush. But no matter what they use, if their technique is wrong, it won’t be effective. Always brush your teeth with small, gentle circular motions, one tooth at a time. Never brush up and down or scrub harshly. That’s why a round-headed toothbrush is perfect-you just hold it on each tooth for a few seconds, and it does the job for you. But honestly, the real key is flossing. Thanks for the tip about the antique shop in Enfield. After your video, I went there, and it was like heaven. Wishing you all the best.
ok..the fabric you took off was exactly the shape you needed to put back on! build in pattern!!
Great lesson in recovering a chair..well done Ash
Glad you liked it!
I loved you watching when upholstering the chair with the nice fabric in this beautiful colour...Thanks. It was fun again!
Glad you enjoyed it!
this was such a fun vlog. Love how you are finding creative outlets. Not to come across as judgey or anything, but can I just say that I love the fact that you actually pronounce your last name the Italian way instead of the Anglicised way 😅. Cheers from Down Under....
Glad you enjoyed it! It’s definitely something I’d love to do more of if you guys want to see that 😂 And yes, it’s an Italian name after all!
Well done on the upholstery Ash! looking fab! I did an old sofa once but my Mum taught herself and eventually did two antique high back chairs in a stunning fine green leather with brass studs and rolled edges. I was amazed at what you can achieve when you practice.
Love the French tables and the new paint colour looks good. If you get a juicer go for a 'cold press' as it keeps more nutrients but you're probably better off with smoothies as you keep the fibre so it's actually better for you. Have a great week and thanks for another great vlog.
That’s amazing, I’m aiming to be like your mum 😂 glad you like the tables and paint colour! Thanks for the tips
What a heavenly place! Your dog looked very happy! The one with the horns was not a cow😅😅😅
Yes it is it's a longhorn cow!
Ash you’re fearless. I love how you’re willing to give something a go & if it doesn’t turn out exactly as you want, then you just pivot. For example the paint color in your bathroom. I love the color of paint that you currently have, but if it’s not working for you then it’s not right. There’s always a needed balance between form and function.
I love your decorating style and the fact that you appreciate antiques, & classical decor, versus chasing modern trends. I live in Texas, but we could probably swap homes & you’d think you were still in the UK. 😂
So, I’m so glad to have found your channel. It’s relaxing, and provides me with so many trips down memory lane.
I smile every time you walk Dougal in Epping Forest. It’s silly really & gives away my age, but my favorite Prog Rock band since the mid 70s is Genesis & they have a song titled The battle of Epping Forest. It’s not my favorite Genesis song, but you walk Dougal & my brain starts playing that song. 😊
But I also really love your choice of background music for your vlogs.
What a great transformation on the chair Ash ❤
You two worked very hard in your young age,I really like your show, interesting & creative & your personality too😊
Thank you so much!
Well done love the chair , I am a huge fan of both of you guys. 👏
Thank you so much!
Ahhhhhh, the chair is beautiful . Just love your vlogs 😍 💖 have a great week ahead xxx
Thank you! Have a lovely Sunday 🫶🏻
I love the chair Ash!
Thank you!
Me alegro que habéis cambiado el color del baño, se verá más grande y luminoso, solo lo pintado hasta ahora resalta mejor sus molduras. Saludos desde España!!
The panels will definitely be more noticeable! Hope everyone likes it 😂
😊😊The walk through Epping Forest..beautiful.Dougal looked in his element.
He loves a long walk!
I love your glasses as well. Glad to see them making a re-appearance. 😁
They’re not going anywhere haha
@@ashmazzina 😁🤣
I think if I was deconstructing an old stained (and smelly) chair I might have done it in the back garden, rather than on an uncovered dining table! But it did make me laugh, and I haven’t finished watching the vlog yet so will now carry on
I agree but it was very cold outside 😂
Good Sunday morning from the snowy shores of Lake Erie in America. I usually get straight up to feed the birds and 5 deer who wander through.....however, when I heard the word reupholster I decided to tuck in and watch your technique. But within seconds my mind completely awakened with your walk to Epping Forest. 3 days ago, the reference would have gone in one ear and out the other!!! However, as an avid genealogist, I learned on Thursday that I am related on a distance branch to George Washington......somewhat thrilling yes, but the cherry on the ice cream sunday involved you and Chad: George's mother Mary Ball Washington was born in the Virginia Colony on a plantation named EPPING FOREST!! WOW!!! More research required!
A fun tip for your next chair: tuck a note in the stuffing with your name and date...maybe telling the next DYI lad about your TH-cam life!
PS: I completely enjoy all of Chad's comments about the price of real-estate in the various sections of London. Yes, your posts hit all sorts of buttons with your viewers.
Such a sweet chair, well done for having ago at reupholstering. I loved the fabric that was on it l probably would have tried to clean it which it daunting prospect in itself 😅
Goodmorning Ash,redesign the bathroom take those toothbrushes off that lovely mirror that’s not cool.Pretty chair love it,love the shape. Done a great job on the chair Ash.Love from Somerset
This video was very entertaining. A real treat! Thank U.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello Ash, totally admire your upholstery - I've done evening classes off and on for years - it's a difficult craft so I think you've done very well. I recommend Vitamix for your smoothies - / soups etc. they're expensive but they'll blend anything and will last for years.
I love that, it definitely seems like a difficult craft! Thank you so much, will have a look 🥰
So glad u are redecorating the bathroom with a more appropriate colour. Will you be lightening the kitchen too. Little tip, I would wash the veg, celery, cucumber etc before putting it into the blender.
Agreed! The kitchen gets enough light to get away with it, when we remove all of the cupboards above the oven it will make a difference! + I usually do wash them but clearly can’t multitask 😂
@@ashmazzina Can't wait to see the transformation. Was that Thursday Vlog, as at the end you said I will see you on Sunday for the bathroom transformation :) ?
@ Bathroom will be next week, hopefully Thursday. Ignore what I said! 😂
@@ashmazzina Love the channel btw. So refreshing to watch an authentic, honest and entertaining gay couple on you tube. I can't wait to see the house finished, sold and you moving into your Islington town house. X
Cuttie love the chair and your super creative sending love from new Zealand boys
29:39 I thought “That looks like the Assembly Rooms in Tunbridge Wells’”… and it was! The Pantiles is pronounced pan-tiles after the original tiles on the ground that were made in pans apparently. My town of birth … a lovely place 😊
😊😊the avocado sounds nice in the smoothie
It really improves the texture!
Cattle have grazing rights within Epping Forest.
Well Ash, i think you've been holding out on us viewers!! You have done well i think on your first upholstery. Feels like i'm almost watching an episode of How to renovate a chateau without...almost😍 i shall be given this upholstering a go myself! You did good
If only haha, I love that! Good luck if you try it 🫶🏻
A little ocd about my toothbrush out in the bathroom air🤢and on the beautiful gilded mirror.
😊😊enjoyed this vlog.Plenty of variety.Thank-you Ash,Chad and Dougal.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Yes to trying an upholstery course :) Try Edge Upholstery near Seven Sisters or Shoreditch Design Rooms near Columbia Road Flower Market. I did some leisure classes there and they were a lot of fun !
Great suggestion! Thank you so much
I have similar bedside tables. You’d be appalled at how much stuff sits on mine - books, diffuser, moisturisers etc. Must tidy up. 😁
I’d love to say mine are always clear but I’d be lying 😂
Well done on the chair, great job!
Thank you!
Great 1st time try on upholstering!
God, I really wish we had buildings, shops, and parks in Phoenix like you have in London. Phoenix is a miracle of boring charmlessness in comparison.
Ha..isn’t it odd how we all have such different perspectives! Phoenix is somewhere I would love to explore, went decades ago. House swap for holiday?!!
@@sallyvaughan1231 As the old saying goes, "It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there." I think Phoenix's attractiveness is found in its novelty and the warmth of its winters - and not it's amenities."
A lot depends how many decades back you visited, too. It has changed a lot in the 50 years since I was taken here as a teenager in the 1970s. The metro area is now five million people. Since 2000, housing is no longer affordablle relative to most people's income. The air is absolutely filthy Monday through Friday (thanks to massive traffic and an army of Mexican leaf-blowing landscapers), winter nights are MUCH warmer now, summers are MUCH drier and overall hotter. And commutes to/from worker take longer.
In the working-class portion Phoenix proper, both the homeless problem and the drug problem are evident everywhere, faded, dust-covered marquis signs pepper every major street, and commercial buildings look as though they haven't been painted in 30 years.
In Phoenix city proper, there is no walkable downtown or walkable shopping district. Scottsdale has one. So does Tempe. But not Phoenix. And there is a noticeable lack of free things to do that don't involve walking up a pile of dirt under a scorching sun and then walking back down again.
And we still have no practical publiic transportation system that could replace the need for a car.
Since moving here as a kid, I did spend two years in Montreal and about a year in Ireland. In both those places, every quality-of-life measurement (according to me, LOL) beats Phoenix hands down.
I suppose Phoenix would seem like a nice place for some people on vacation, though - particularly from November through March. It's just that, if I have to be in a city, I would like that city to have the kinds of amenities that make a city worth living in - and Phoenix has paid no attention to that.
Does Chad appreciate you and your talents or does he just tolerate you? You are a true jewel worth keeping. Great job on the chair, please take some classes and become a professional because you have a natural talent. The size of the chair is perfect for a child and small dogs, I would love to have it for my dog.
As I appreciate him! It’s a two-way street. And thank you again for your kind words about the chair!
My sister is phenomenal at upholstery so I wish I had some tips to give but here I am, no tips whatsoever in my head 😂. Well done!
😂
Don't get a juicer, rather a good blender like a Vitamix - you can blend anything in that! That's how I grind my coffee beans as well.
You stripping that chair was hilarious 😅😅😅
😂
It was the Marigolds for me, they didn't last long but great to see a youtuber that wears them, all the women I see scrubbing their sinks on YT and all I can think of is the fortune they spend on beauty products and look what they're doing to their hands, 20 years time they'll regret not wearing their Marigolds!
I hope you would keep this chair, so when you get better after taking a course or just practicing more, you can see or compare your improvement with your other future work! Well done! Love your channel and your sweet personality 😊🥰😍
You are hilarious, handsome and have great style. Chad is handsome too.
Very kind, thank you!
Dougal is especially handsome!1
if it smells you should not reuse it!! you can get the batting and things at the right fabric stores.
You should be so proud of yourself and the sweet little chair, it’s hard work and can murder your fingers and wrists..thank god for curved needles too! X
The bedside table marble interiors were to prevent the ceramic chamber pots from staining the wood when clumsily put back inside the cupboard at night.
May I ask what is your educational background , because you are very talented in the interior color harmony & design.
Thank you! My education had nothing to do with art or interiors! Just something I enjoy and love learning about 🫶🏻
I must admit, I haven’t watched the whole thing to the end, but did you decide not to sew the back of the chair in that semi circle that goes through to the back of the upholstery before you closed up the back..? PS-I think you did a marvelous job with a chair reupholstering. Kudos. I hope you get the chair you’re looking for soon. Can’t wait to see the new bathroom paint job.
I filmed a little clip explaining why I didn’t but I forgot to add it in! I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out, my needles weren’t long enough to go through the chair and I’d already sewn the fabric onto the frame. I could unpick it and fix it but that’s a job for another week 😂
Ash well done for attempting .. it is a fabric recover .. hopefully you will now appreciate the work that is required to reupholster a Victoria iron base chair !!!! not the easiest for a first attempt .. a lost skill sadly . X
Hi so glad I found you guys, had some thought about your experience in wine shop in Paris (a month later 😂). The French take great pride (hence arrogance) in the fact that their wine is produced according to very strict rules, the outcome of the wine is entirely dependent on the weather, the French expect their favourite wines to taste from one year to the next. (It’s why we talk about a good or bad year for wine in France, they don’t produce standardised wine.
However other countries do not have these rules and cater to Brits, Aussies Americans who like to buy a wine and know what they’re getting form year to year and since these countries don’t have the same rules they can add wood chips to the wine to make it more oaky, or sugar to sweeten it. Practices that the French have nothing but disdain for… hence what the wine seeker was alluding to. Adding wood chips to hide a mediocre wine. 🍷
The passion for organic and bio-dynamic wines comes from, I believe, the huge respect for wine makers who go this route as there are even more constraints. The respect for the grape, the soil and nature is taken to its most stringent and poetic expression. A far cry from the mass produced new world wines. The harder a wine it to produce the more French people venerate it.
Sadly uk supermarkets cater to British tastes and so there are very few elegant French wines on offer, at an affordable price and even fewer organic ones, which because if the lack of sulphites (principally used as a preservative) organic and more so bio dynamic are less stable and delicate. They are more susceptible to temperature changes during transportation and they can even go into fermentation if mishandled. Hope this helps 😂
Apologies if you’ve answered this question elsewhere, but could you advise as to the title of the music used in the Epping Forest footage? You’ve used it before, and I’ve fallen in love with it.
Adamant, Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen. It’s a lovely piece of music!
@ - thank you so much. I’ll be listening to it a lot!
1800's housewife. No arguement hear. Looking forward to your embroidery sampler.
😂
You did amazing Ash you should definitely be proud lol
Hi Ash! I left a comment before. But (if you're comfortable answering) really wondering what the width of your house is? I've been looking at slightly narrower Victorians as they tend to be cheaper, but really trying to gauge what I'd be able to do with the space. Your home is lovely. Thanks!
@@IzzyOM sorry I must have missed your comment! I think ours is around 4.25 metres, just looked at the floor plans so hopefully that’s correct 😂
Hardly a wall without paint tests on it 😂😊
Welcome to my home 😂
I love coconut water, the flavor is mild & taste real especially in summer time.
So true!
I don't want to know what ancient bacteria were living in that chair 🤣good first attempt!
I don’t even want to think about it 😂🤢
Do you think you could replace the short legs with regular size legs and make a standard chair out of it?
I think you could but I’d probably keep it as is, that’s the original!
😂😂I like five a day.One being coffee(well its made of beans😂😂😂)
😂
Hi Ash, you did a great job on the chair, it’s so sweet. I’d buy it off you if I lived in London 😅 Aaaw Dougal is so cute. Do you know if he can see OK? I saw on TV the other day that those breeds have sight problems because of the folds. Hi to Chad too! 🫶🏼
His vision is perfect but his wrinkles restrict his vision above him unless he moves his head. He could have a facelift but he doesn’t need it 😂
Love your style, rather have vanity cluttered than keeping toothbrushes visibly attached to mirror. Yuk. I'd keep in the case for sanitation & ascetics alone!
Ash, did you not mean Truffle paint by Paint & Paper Library? Cant find it on Little Greene website but it's on P&P Library...🤔. Just curious, as I always love your color choices, my own home is heritage shades.
Sorry yes! I always forget they’re two different companies haha. I picked it up in the little greene store!
I don't believe for a second that you could bear to live with those toothbrushes stuck to your mirror xx
Definitely Bullocks!
In the field I mean, not cows… I saw no udders! 🤣🤣🤣
Good job
Thank you!
The Nama juicer is the best.
More fiber isn't released when you chew it, but more digestive juices are, which will help help break down the fiber. The blender pretty much breaks down the cell wall of the veg. Because you are making a smoothie instead of juice, you are actually getting a lot of fiber.
If you were juicing then a lot of the fiber would be lost, unless you used in another recipe, which is possible and smart.
Will look into it, thank you!!
@@arlinejernigan That's exactly what I would have told too!
Stand your toothbrushes in a pretty glass or vase. Much nicer.
Do you not wash your vegetables before blending?
Start w proper tools heavy duty staple gun, tack puller, u stretch fabric @ corners making several tiny pleats NOT a folded corner( like wrapping a gift, no) I've had another person stretch & hold corners while I staple, ( the back is not correct as u did not ' replace the structured seam,in semi curve) as u said u would). take a course I did, learned so much.. then have fun.
