  • Jason Sealock shares some advice on flipping and pitching flooded cover and the nuances of reading, dissecting and thoroughly fishing flooded wood, grass and other brush when the water rises on lakes and rivers after heavy rains. This is a great video on how Sealock has had so much success flipping and pitching plastics to shallow cover over the years and how he progresses through areas and rules out water and makes mental notes of what areas are good and what ones will be good as the lake rises and falls.

    I was just fishing an area like that yesterday and I was trying to figure out how to get back into the cover. Wish I had watched this before that. Great tips I’m going to have to rig up a reel with heavy line to flip those bushes.

    I think this was the perfect choice of video. All the guys there in Texas are going to need some tips on where to find fish in all that flooded water. Great video, great information. I like the way you do your videos, our fishing styles are similar.

      Thank you Drew. I've had guys asking me for a while to do a video on how I look at the cover when the lake gets really flooded because they get tired of looking at the same stuff for hours on end and trying to make sense of it all.

    Backing into the carport. lol. That happens out here in the California delta quite a bit at high tide. They back into any spot that provides good ambush cover with their nose pointed towards the Slough or Channel... Great video thanks guys.

    I just realized that you are using your right hand to flip, but then you switch hands and set the hook with your left hand👍🏻👍🏻😎
    Wouldn't it be easier to use a left hand reel and use the right arm the whole time? Maybe a few more extra flips during the day ? I used to fish like you, but the realized that mis all my fish cause all that time I have been fishing with the wrong hand lol 😂 so now i only use a left hand reel. Awesome tutorial video sir 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. I have some left hand reels. I also pitch with my left hand as well. I can flip both ways. I definitely pitch better with my right hand. So real tight long pitches like in this video, I will mostly use my right. When I'm in a rhythm I will sometimes switch hands before I even finish the pitch. I hardly ever lose a fish, so it hasn't caused me an issue thus far. ;-) Thanks for watching!

    25 LB fluoro? anyone have experience with that heavy of a line was thinking of using 20 lb fluoro for flipping

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use 20-pound all the time. Because it was so flooded and I knew I was going to be throwing over a lot of cover I couldn't see and we were catching some 5-7 pound bass, I actually went up to 25-pound.

    why fluoro over braid?

    • @thecajunangler8589
      @thecajunangler8589 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brayton Killiri Fishing Braid sometimes cuts into wood leaving one stuck. Fluorocarbon is also quiet when rubbing up and down a branch. Plus it's clear but that doesn't matter... that's just what I've heard some other pros say

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah braid cuts into wood a lot of times when you set the hook and a fish pulls hard into the cover and you are sawing back and forth. I actually fished braid for a day during this past spring when the water was high and Bolton got 4 to 1 the bites I did on the braid rod. When I switched to a rod with just fluorocarbon, I got way more bites. I don't know why that would matter in flooded cover like that, but on that day it definitely did. Some guys believe the fish can here the braid rubbing on the branches because it's now smooth. So it makes a faint zipper noise under the water that puts the fish on guard.

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree plus it makes and unnatural sound as it comes across the branches.

    You probably mean no connection to be made to the flooding in Texas but that's what will be.

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing related to Texas. Definitely not making light of what those folks are dealing with down there. But our lake here at home is expected to go up several feet in the next week. Last year we had a big rise in the lake in the middle of the summer and the flipping and pitching got very good for about a week.
