    I get very sleepy at 8 or 9 p.m. Then, if I don't get to bed right away, I remain sleepless till 2 a.m. Nightmare.

    This was a great video! As a wellness coach I loved the inclusion of information on Melatonin and sleep. One I want to add about polyphasic sleep (because I'm a health nerd =) ) is schedules is that the more frequent your sleep and the less you sleep in large blocks of time the more quickly you go into REM sleep. The body seems to prioritize REM over other sleep stages. I read a study that showed that taking short naps was more effective than sleeping once in a 24 hour period when professional rowers were limited to 3 hours of sleep for a competition. This doesn't mean that we should sleep deprive ourselves but polyphasic sleep (or adding naps into your day) definitely has benefits if you have a tight schedule.

    You know what else helps? FAST FORWARD! I just watched your video at 2x speed and turned a 10 minute video into a 5 minute video, effectively adding 5 minutes back to my day. My normal is 1.5x for most videos. If you have a lot of videos you want to keep up with, either for entertainment or educational reasons, then this is one of the best ways to hack and trim down on time consuming videos. Discussion type videos are intentionally saved for driving. No need to watch a discussion video. Just listen at 1.2x speed. Faster then normal, but slow enough to not have to focus to hard on whats being said allowing for main focus to remain on driving safely. :)

    • @mollerbt
      @mollerbt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sebviscerate I dont have a choice or I can't get through my videos. I've trained my ear to keep up with 2x, however the natural fast talkers I tend to have to slow down to 1.75 or 1.5. The only videos I watch at normal speed or 1.25 is pure entertainment. The more information type videos, 95 percent I watch at 2x. Even with this, I can't keep up with all the channels i subscribe to along with other aspects of life. It's frustrating.

    I'm very lucky to have basically stumbled into my dream job, the only problem is its shift work and I have to work half the week overnights and the other half evening shifts. One half of the week gets used frantically catching up on sleep and trying to squeeze in time for friends and errands, the other half I'm almost never home. Ultimately it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make as a childless, single 20 something. Most people my age are stuck in fields they hate, and I was there for years. I just have to learn to work around this weird schedule

  • @EggTamago7

    Great video! Since going back to school and no longer having a steady 9-5 job, my schedule has been all over the place. Between weird class schedules, working nights driving for Uber on the weekend (and during the day whenever I happen to have time and it's at an hour when it's worth it), and currently doing contract photography work over the summer all over the city, there really isn't much room for consistency. Not exactly fun times for my autistic brain that really, really... REALLY prefers stability and routine.
    I can't really say I'm mastering the chaos, but I've personally made an effort to take a step back from my calendar and offload to a task management app (Things 3, in my case). Being able to separate "intent to work on something" from hard deadlines is pretty handy. Rather than rigidly scheduling in "do laundry" or "take out the trash" in my calendar at a specific time, I throw it into Things so I know I need to do it at some point during the day (or tomorrow or whatever) when I have a moment. Put more simply, I'm accepting the chaos and working around it, rather than trying to beat it into submission.

    I have worked full time (night shifts) while taking 15 credit hours and having a baby.
    Half of my week I would sleep at night and the other half during the day. I just made sure I had 8+ hours of sleep every night and it worked out. I tried polyphasic sleep and didn’t get much results.
    I also regulated when and how much caffeine I would consume to prep my body for wakefulness/sleep
    This is a really good vid. 👍🏻👍🏻

    I would love to see a video for productivity for parents. I’m currently in school and have my eight month old daughter at home with me. I go to class online, but getting a consistent schedule with a child or multiple children is really hectic. If you could find information that I haven’t and do a video on it I would love that. I’m sure many of your subscribers would love it to, because odds are some are most likely parents as well.

    I have to change.
    Everyday i say "Ok, today i will do this thing i know i have to do. But first, ill procrastinate 20 minutes. Well, 20 more. And 20 more. And o go like that until its fucking stupid.
    My college classes started a week ago and i still havent opened a book. I sleep like 3-4 hours per day, and sometimes i get home at 5-6 pm and i pass out in my bed from the acumulated lack of sleep. The only things im doing fine are my nutrition which i have been careful about since last year, so its kind of a habit now, and my exercise time, also since last year when i started going to the gym 6 hours a week.
    I know i can do better. I know i can manage. I know i can get everything done and have time for myself, but i keep ruining everything. If i applied i could have all i want.
    I want to change, or at least thats what i repeat to myself everyday at 4 am when im going to sleep. Then the next day im tired as fuck, but i dont do anything about it, i just keep repeating this bad habit of mine. I never in my life felt depressed, i've always been a happy guy that was okay with simple things. But i know that if i keep going through this path im following right now, ill end up being sad all day.
    I just have to change my attitude, i guess. I started watching your videos just to convince myself that i was doing something to fix this problem, but im not.
    The worst part is that i know i can fix it. I just dont.

You make some great points which help to incorporate the reality of life into working productively on goals, habits etc. It's difficult when others have schedules that are different to yours, especially when you're living with others or partners etc. How do you overcome the latter (living with partners on different schedules) in your view, as yes you can have your own schedule, but sometimes it needs to match up with yours? I think what matters, like you said, is just getting enough sleep in a twenty-four hour period. I think we're a little too obsessed with getting eight hours in one go here in the U.S. In some cultures, people regularly sleep the way you described in this video and their life expectancy is just as long, if not longer, than those of Americans. I don't agree with things like the uberman and the everyman methods, because they're based on a bogus belief that you can somehow reduce the amount of hours you need to sleep by just sleeping in different phases. I mean if I sleep two hours in the afternoon and another two hours in the evening, those four divided hours of sleep aren't magically going to make it as if I've slept eight hours.
    As far as job schedules, I think it would be great if employers let employees choose their own hours, like tell the employee they need to work eight hours out of the day, but let them pick what those hours are going to be. Maybe instead of working 9-5, some people might rather work 11-7. I think it's kind of strange that bosses not only insist on telling employees what they're going to do on the job, but also insist on telling them when they're going to do it. Of course, maybe people could even choose to work less than eight hours out of the day, and those people would just have to except that they would get paid less.

    • @hannahclarke1023
      @hannahclarke1023 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My current work place lets all employees pick their work hours.
      Im only part time, so I just pick as many shifts as i want that works around my university timetable, and includes remote shifts on evenings and weekends that I can do from my home.
      Full time employees need to work 5 8-hour shifts or 40 hours in a week, but it's up to them when they work them. The office is open 8am until 7pm, Monday to Saturday. So they can work 8am until 4pm, or 11am until 7pm, or sometime in between. And as we're open Saturdays, if you work Saturdays you can not work another day during the work, as you only need 5 full days. Or you can do 4 full days and 2 4-hour days, etc.

    Thank you my job and doing Masters full time is so stressful and chaotic I have not had time to workout which much of the time I end up using this time to do research for my Masters if I'm not too tired to just sit and stare at my laptop that is.

    How do you choose between a career you have an interest in, and a career you think has the most meaning?
    I really enjoy art and the process of drawing, but I think that it would be a bit lacking to spend my whole life doing art. After spending years thinking, I decided that astrophysics was the subject that would be most meaningful to spend my lifetime doing, but while I was mildly interested in the topic, I found that I didn't enjoy it as much as art. What would you choose if you were in my situation?
