    Bronze: $99.99

    I really like Hero Forge. I've purchased 4 different model files from them, and I'm very pleased with the results. Having said that, I highly recommend doing a cost analysis. A Creality Ender-3 3D printer costs around $240 USD. A spool of filament is roughly $20, and 1 Hero Forge stl files is roughly $10. That's $270 USD for your first custom Hero Forge mini (and all the FREE mini files you can find on sites like thingiverse). Yes, $270 is a lot for 1 mini, but if you like Hero Forge, you're not gonna buy (or want) only 1 custom mini. At the point where you've hit 9 or more custom minis, it has now become more cost efficient to buy your own 3D printer and print the files yourself. Also, you own those files and can print them as many times as you like at whatever scale you like... Food for thought.

    I spent 250 dollars (us) and got everyone in my party (and DM) their own figures and dice to match the ones they use in tabletop simulator. (8 figures total)

    I don't have the funds to buy an actual figure, but Heroforge is great for designing characters in, too! I've made art for two characters now by making them in Heroforge, getting a cool pose and camera angle, then screenshotting it and using that as a reference to draw them in Photoshop. Really useful for someone like me who's an absolute novice at drawing stuff and needs to have something to work from.
    Also, it's only fair to mention that if you have access to your own 3D printer, Heroforge also sells the files they use to print the miniatures, for a fraction of the price of the mini itself. They even have a couple of example files available to download for free!
    I don't have a 3D printer myself, but it's a cool feature and I hadn't seen it mentioned in the comments yet so I thought I'd let y'all know.

    In my experience I like the cheap plastic more than the higher plastic. It’s a tad more durable and I’ve noticed less issues in them.

    • @MarcusRambles
      @MarcusRambles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's fair, I only went with the higher plastic because I wanted the best looking figure. I'm also thinking about painting it.

    Someone put 4th d&d stuff in a 1st edition box. Also you can fix the bend in the sword with hot water to soften it then bend it then use cold water to harden it back. That should help with fixing the bend.

    I will say the only small detail that I would love for them to change right now is choosing between a cloak and a quiver. Why not both?

    • @garysmith3037
      @garysmith3037 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would love a sprue option, so you could customize the figure even further. There are only so many options for weapons to put on your back or sides, compared to the ones you can hold.

  • @navdhillon7912
    @navdhillon7912 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have 10 premium mini's from these guys. A tad bit pricey but the details and amount of customization is hard to beat. The shipping and stronger US dollars does put it about 40 Canadian dollars each.

  • @A.Mayflower127
    @A.Mayflower127 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you choose regular plastic and live in the US (or like me, have family in the US and can send you the figures) price for two comes to ~$40.

    Hero Forge provides an impressive selection, but they still don't have anything. My character is a half-elf cleric who wields a staff topped with a star-shaped crystal. The closest I could find was a crystalline staff.

    Fantastic Review, I have already used their site previously as a birthday present. Took a younger picture of my father and made a model of him on the site as a paladin sorta Character (PS He loved it). Same thing with the sword being a bit bent but the detail overall was amazing. Just ordered my second character from them for a DND character I used to play and now showing it off to my DND group. Everyone is very excited and I'll be sending them this review forsure~

    easy solution for bent plastic is to poor some boiling water into a cup or something and then dip in the part that is bend. The plastic starts to get into its initial pose. But be careful when taking it out, because gravity instantly drags down some parts. So you might want to pull out in the right angle. Then take the plastic (or mini) and hold it down under cold water so it hardens back up. You also can try to bend the plastic into shape and hold it in that pose and then take into cold water. You might want to watch a YT video about it before trying out blind folded.
    Commenting on Hero Forge, I wish they had more various look for other genres. Sure you got many combinations for Fantasy, but when it comes to any other genre they lack in variety.

    • @MarcusRambles
      @MarcusRambles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tip. And you're not wrong, but I can honestly understand the focus on fantasy. DnD is really popular at the moment. Look up "DND E-Sports". I'm not joking. So leaning towards one genre makes sense, but I do wish they had more cyberpunk stuff.

    Cheers for the detailed review! We have 2 campaigns running at the moment, one where my partner DMs and the other his sister DMs so they both get an opportunity to play and also so a couple of our friends who work full time and cant make to one campaign still have an opportunity to play too. I came across this site earlier today and within a couple hours had both teams made up perfectly, and everyone was amazed at the detail and level of customization more than happy to pay for them to be made so after seeing this and a couple blog reviews I think we're sold on this site so thank you :)

    With the money they are making per fig,, they can make it more affordable by switching to using, Liquid 3D Printer's that way they can make more detailed models with no layer lines whatsoever, they have been in biz for some time now to switch over to the new printers.. it's still a money grab,, in my opinion, when they start using, Liquid 3D Printer's , and full controlled sizing morphs for complete control over full proportions as well as add a complete dynamic pose maker within the design program like daz 3d uses .. I"m all in, till then, they need to run a new kickstarter for the change up , just like a board game can re release a better version of itself with better components , so can Hero forge.

    Nice video...thank you! I discovered Hero Forge a few months ago and do the digital download option (I have a 3D printer). With a little trial and error, and a lot of clean up, you can get minis to print out at nearly the detail of the premium plastic. Not only that, you can print them at almost any scale (2x for instance) and add to/modify them in any CAD program (even the free ones).

    • @MarcusRambles
      @MarcusRambles  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mixed feelings on Hero Forge. I enjoyed designing the figure. Unfortunately, figure was broken when I received it. To their credit, Hero Forge immediately shipped another, and that one arrived in good condition. The downside; the figure was somewhat underwhelming. Less detail than I expected, and if feels fragile enough, that I'll probably just paint it, and put it on the display shelf, and not use it in gaming.
    Again, they did stand behind their product and quickly took care of the broken one they sent, so they are a decent company to deal with. If I order another Hero Forge figure, I'll actually probably step up and order the bronze figure. Expensive, but $100 that will last seems smarter than $40 that won't.

    Ok allow me to make a few points for viewers and commenters before you order from Hero Forge:
    1. The premium plastic is Extremely delicate, not properly packaging it when travelling can cause thinner sections of the miniature to break easily. (I have several friends who purchased the premium plastic including myself)
    2. The style of the miniatures from HF are cartoony, and may not fit a table that uses miniatures styled more seriously.
    3. $40 is the average price for a custom UNPAINTED premium plastic miniature from HF in USA and Canada. There is nothing wrong with spending nearly half 100 dollars on a single miniature if you have the cash, but there are hundreds of miniatures out there that are far more affordable alternatives. (I recommend Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures, an unpainted Player Character miniature costs $6~ and gives you two alternate versions of a specific race and class combination with detailed sculpts and dynamic poses. That is 2 miniatures)
    4. $40-50 can get you a D&D board game with 42 unpainted miniatures. 6 heroes, 35~ monsters of varying sizes, and 1 Huge miniature such as a Red Dragon, A Balor, or a Dracolich. It also comes with various useful tokens and modular dungeon tiles.
    5. Not sure where the Content Creator is getting his numbers, but he was either sorely mistaken or outright lying. Those 6 miniatures cost an average of $17, not "roughly" $40. And as of the videos posting, the miniatures have continued to average that price. (this drops to $15 on Amazon and has gone as high as $22)
    Miniature reviews should be impartial and non-bias, it should place emphasis on things like affordability and alternatives. This review does neither and I consider it shallow and uninformative.

      No, but $32.22 plus shipping and handling is closer to $40. I suppose the price alternatives, such as $15-22 or the $6-8 on Nulzor's PC miniatures should be omitted because this is a Heroforge review? and because you're in Canada?

    • @MarcusRambles
      @MarcusRambles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all, in fact I checked those miniatures out on their website after you mentioned them and they look really impressive, especially for the price. The simple fact of the matter is I didn't know they existed. I suppose I could have done a bit more research into alternatives but hindsight is 20/20, so what can you do.

    • @joselazo9799
      @joselazo9799 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to make points you may have missed or didn't bring up for any viewers planning on purchasing a Heroforge Miniature.
      To save money, since it doesn't grow on trees, and to have alternatives. It's important as a reviewer to do your research so you don't screw over the people listening to you, so they understand their options and the pros and cons. You were being far to easy on the miniatures from HF, they are great I agree there, but they have major flaws that should have been more thoroughly explored.
      "not flimsy by any means so long as your take care of it, it will last you a long time." There are complaints all over the net of the delicate state of the premium plastics. Not including my personal experience with it and that of the people I know. The plastic may not be flimsy but it is overly fragile for a $40 investment.
      Thank you for replying and admitting some of the flaws of the review. I don't ask for your to remake it or take it down, adding a note in the comments or the description to be more accurate would be wonderful.
      You could even pin my comment.
