Prints could be made as statues, in 200% size or bigger. Loss of detail on a FDM print is OK on a battle scarred statue. Great for terrain, especially if you order one STL and decorate a building with lots of prints from it.

I have not printed anything from Heroforge, but I have printed minis that I designed on Desktophero3d. First order of business with anything from desktop hero: repair your STL! I tried going right from the downloaded STL to my slicer and it was a mess. I ran it through the netfab repair service and it was a lot better. I then use meshmixer to create custom supports where I see they will be needed instead of letting my slicer make a mess of it. Cleanup of my custom supports takes about 1/3 the time it was taking me to chisel out support from every crevice on a mini. Search youtube for meshmixer overhang to learn how to make your own custom supports.
The only thing we do differently with DH3D is support generation (but everyone tells me I'm a masochist for using Cura default supports often, I know). Thanks for the suggestion, Ryan! Mastering Meshmixer is DEFINITELY on my to learn list :)
I have been toying with making some how-to vids as I have taken a lot of what you teach and added my own twists. I unfortunately am pretty busy, don't have any good recording devices, and I don't know if my laptop will be able to screencap while running Meshmixer or Ideamaker (my slicer of choice). Beyond that, I work 55 hours a week and am a part time student with ADHD. Getting a few well-edited vids would be a quite an undertaking!
I have printed a couple myself, One I made for a Pathfinder game I'm playing in, and one for another player who saw my results and bought his own and asked me to print. You say you wouldn't use them for townsfolk or monsters, but I'm thinking that is a better option for them, buy one and print many copies, the more you print the cheaper they become. You can only buy a limited amount of poses for generic characters anyway. Reaper sells townsfolk for US$3-$10+ each, you can make a generic Guard model for US$10 for the .STL + 10cents for the print, second Guard model bring the price down to US$5.10 each, ten town Guards bring the price down to US$1.10 each, you could also do this with the other "race" options on Hero Forge, yes they will all have the same pose, but with painting to individualize, or even customize them with crafting they serve as a cheap alternative. A zombie horde of twenty now costs US$0.60 a model, a horde of one hundred now costs US$0.20 a model. A Manic Games "Zombie Horde" is US$45 for 39 zombies that's US$1.15 a model printing will be US$0.36 each for the 39.Yes they will all have the same pose, but they would be great for filling out the ranks.
If I was gonna use them for townsfolk, I'd much rather by a pack of multiple different townsfolk for $10 and print this for same cost and more variety. Otherwise, I'm with ya in this one too :)
I got a couple HeroForge stl files with the intent of scaling the model up and making some Fire Giants. My Monoprice Mini Delta handled them great, very satisfied with the result.
Hello, with all the changes Hero Forge has made to their website since last year. Will you be revisiting them and making any new videos on what printer (s) / supplies to use for their miniatures . Thank you for your time.
Another excellent vid! You do a great job of pointing out the pros and cons of the HeroForge service and what a person's expectations should be based on the character they create and which type of printer they'll be using. I appreciate you taking the time to be so thorough. Keep being awesome!
I just printed out my Dragonborn on my ANET A8 using your Ender 3 settings(all prusa based so they worked fine) and the results were quite good. thank you!
At $10 per mini you'd be better off buying Games Workshop or other professionally produced minis which have a higher level of detail and made of more robust materials than you can get from any 3D printer. The only reason to buy an expensive model to print would be if you can't get something appropriate already made or if you're more into the printing part of the hobby more than getting detail or value for money. I guess personalisation could fit in a lot there, if you want specific features on a model for an RPG.
All excellent points. You'd be surprised how often folks share their HeroForge mini online with a huge backstory because they feel attached to their character, and just felt HF was the best manifestation of that. Also, folks can rescale it, print as many times as they want - and I do think there's value in that too (even though this just compensates for minis being weaker than traditionally cast/spun models.) Personally, all my main minis were either Reaper or WizKids, but in 1 year we've come a long ways in both tech, models available, and knowledge of the hobby. Great comments either way! Thank you again for your time!
@Fifthmiracle A lot of folks do just that, actually - but it's also worth noting that many folks pick up 3D printing because they struggle with traditional handcrafting/sculpting. I've spoken with many, and for them it seems to be a recurring theme that the $10 isn't a high cost for something they feel they helped design. This is also why I mention some of the free alternatives though - they're worth consideration as well in the grand scheme of things :)
Well, I'll tell you that I just put in an order for an Ender 3 (Finally getting into 3d printing! Whoo!). This was a direct result of me discovering your "Resin quality miniatures on a $200 printer" a few weeks ago :)
@Derek: "One of us, one of us!" Great to have you along! Looking forward to seeing your prints, my man! :) Join us in the FB group, you'll be welcomed with arms wide open.
I plan too :) (well more reddit I think). I'll get my printer on Monday, set it up, and then contemplate the arduous task of choosing what you print first 😛
Excellent review of the options. Any print that has minor damage or miss print parts can be fixed with a little old fashion green stuff! I remember when I started with miniatures (boxed prints), I was frustrated with spending $3-4 and then having stuff snap off when I was cleaning it up or when I opened the box and stuff was deformed and bent. After 3 times of this happening, I said forget it.... Know its nice to be able to try and print mini's on pennies per print (or 1.50-2 for SLA) and be able to work with the results.
I will post an example of what I have learned over to show this. Think of it like model filler. its a 2 part (Yellow/Blue) material that you mix into green and shape to what ever you are working with. Its excellent to use to fill gaps/defects or add custom details (deepening on how good you are at sculpting). greenman1972.blogspot.com/2013/05/citadel-d-bdd10-red-dragon-wip.html This use to be a common thing most people had to do :( Its just a carry over from old school moding.
Danny! You are my man! My MAIN man, I have learned so much about 3DP from you, I can't wait to get started. For me it's worth the cost for Hero Forge because, I am able to design minis to match characters from my own stories and books. 3D tabletop and even Eldrithch Foundry are very good, but HF beats them for sheer volume of features. It has a somewhat cartoonish style, but, with careful manipulation and posing this can be reduced.
You make a good point about supports. I avoided them at all costs but I recently decided to dive in and start playing with the settings to get more complicated, detailed prints.
That's a worthwhile venture, my friend. The best loot always sits in a dragon's hoard, or at the deepest, darkest dungeons. Youll come out better because of it :) Let me know how I can help.
Great video again. As for people who hate supports I'd recommend you dial in your support distance so they are supper easy to remove. I have mine set at a 0.3mm distance and most of the time they just pull straight off! Happy printing all!
Joe, I've always had issues with print failures in Cura when I up the z distance. With or without support interface enabled and all. Can you share your settings in the FB group? I think A LOT of people would love to try it! (Myself included)
The one I showed, Felonius Monk, was printed because a player in the party would often cast Enlarge on him - so he did that to swap the mini out. Loved the idea so much, and glad I got to show it in this video :) (along with the awesome name!)
I am into writing so character creation is the part of the game I love most taking threads of stories from other player and putting them together for a great short story
4:40 You could argue that the broken hammer is good for story reasons. Maybe it's a family heirloom? Maybe it's old and broken from decades of battles?
Thanks man, I just saw the awesome deal with titanforge but my budget has me getting an ender 3 and I was concerned about not being able to do it with FDM, this is exactly the video I needed, me and my brother are PUMPED!
Chitubox has an option to calculate the resin cost for you automatically. You just in the cost of a litre of resin into the program and it calculates the cost for you when slicing. Don't know how accurate it is, but I find they seem about right.
@@3DPrintedTabletop no, it was terrible. 1) the week prior i bought 5 models and 2) that day i bought like a dozen more because the price was so good. 😀 At least this time i was modeling figures for use as soldiers and gaurdsmen so i will make lots of prints
I have printed around 4 hero forge minis, they prove a good challenge for my CR10. One day i want to get an sla or a dlp machine and try my hand at it. But i am happy with the results... HOWEVER i do not live in america, here prices in dollars are a bit too much. But some times i cant help it, i scrounge the dough and put it up because the mini i made just looks phenomenal... and i don't have the time to make my own (i could, i can model in zbrush, blender, maya, yadda yadda) But i need to concentrate in making a living XD so for now miniature prints are self indulging guilty pleasures Good vid man! keep it up!
Yes 10 dollars for a small generic foot-soldier is way too much if you don't plan on printing it several times for an army. Well worth it otherwise. I absolutely looooove resin printing, it's so much easier to print a mini with support which has empowered me to make some really dynamic poses. So FDM vs SLA isn't only a matter of level of detail but its also about the dynamics of the poses you want to print. So yeah save your money and get a Moai or one of the LED UV printers if you really care about printing some slightly more complex minis.
Well said! Resin printing DOES have it's challenges (I'm learning about support generation and orientation the hard way now lol), but once you get the process down it gets much smoother :) Also: I've only met one person with a Photon, D7, and Moai - but from what I've seen it looks like the end results of the minis on Photon/D7/Moai isn't too far off. I am just adding this so someone reads it and doesn't think the Moai is the only option for good quality :) Thanks for your comment, Jason!
I’m interested in it’s uses for printing accessories for 28mm gaming. For example, lasguns for Imperial Guard conversions are tricky to find, and the commercial options are too different to fit in with standard GW plastics. Also you can sculpt a lot of things, but its a pita if you want a lot of pieces or any kind of repeatability. Is SLA/DLP suitable for that kind of thing?
Yes indeed, orientation and amount and style of support is the heaviest learning curve with resin printing. But once you get that right its hard to go wrong. I recommend the moai because it is the only SLA printer I've used. Definitely a direction for someone who wants to print a lot of small complex stuff imo.
Absolutely. In fact, I literally just got my first start collecting set for Astra Militarum! I think IG are one of the most friendly armies for this kinda thing. You might have to model the bit yourself, or work off a video game model, but a resin printer will have the level of detail you're looking for. An FDM printer can do bigger stuff like Dreadnought's, but for lasgun conversion bits - you'll need resin IMO. If you give me a month or two, I'm gonna do a video just on this for sure - it's just gonna take me a bit to set up my troops :)
3D Printed Tabletop Yeah, I have an FDM printer which is pretty well tuned, but even with a 0.2 nozzle and 0.08 layer heights, that kind of detail is rough. I wish I had an Anycubic Photon, but they are bizarrely difficult to get here in Australia. Most places don’t want to sell lower end machines, most of what’s available is a few thousand dollars, like the various Ultimakers and such.
Is a cool website but they seem to not have as much choices on armor and close . And stuff like you can’t make anything like wings on a helmet. Like a Thor helmet!
I just think it is useful to append, that the physical printing option available from Heroforge themselves nets a result so perfect it has to be seen to be believed. I've ordered several printed figurines from them and frankly, their quality exceeds anything shown in this video. However they are printing them, they are clearly using the absolute best machines and have honed their expertise to the highest order. Of course half the point of printing your own is to avoid the printing cost. The cheapest plastic option ($20.) available from Heroforge nonetheless, produces awesome results. If you are looking for that one perfect miniature for the character you are going to play for years, and are intending to do a competition winning level paint job on it, seriously consider straight up buying the miniature from Heroforge.
As a 2-week owner of a cheap and cheerful Tronxy printer with grand aspirations, I wonder what kind of mini would be relatively easy? I tried to print a dwarven rifleman I'm playing in a friends game... Rifles don't print too well. :D So. A gelatinous cube? An elemental? A blob? (Fierce blob!)
What models of 3D printer should I be looking at that are budget friendly and able to handle printing minis with a decent level of detail? Im looking into trying some 3d printing so any advice for someone starting up in it woudl be great.
The Ender 3 is a good price, and it's got a great community of people who just want to 3d print cheaply. If you have some extra money then Prusa is great.
For my custom miniatures I use an old version of Poser. Even the old V4 and M4 models give nice details and the variations in pose or clothing are endless. Yes - Poser is kind of expensive, yet compared to paying 10 dollars for a blueprint it is worth the money after only 10 minis.
I've never heard of it before, but that does sound interesting. If I was using it often, I could see the cost being worth it - and totally see your point. Do they have a trial of some sort? Would love to give this a shot and see if it's worth it!
I am not sure if they have a free trial. If so, there might even be the option to export .objs from a free version. There is a quite similar program (DAZ studio) which is free, as far as I know. Yet, DAZ does not come with figures so there is an investment, nevertheless. Poser comes with its standalone models female/male and some free items, but most people use a combination of poser software with DAZ models, cause a lot of the items you can find on the internet are for the DAZ models. In poser it is quite easy to apply a pose to the models, you can morph them to not look the same and you can find tons of free clothing items in the net. Exporting scenes will then fuse all the items in one model. This is of course not the intended use of the program, but for me it works surprisingly well.
I do see some value in buying HeroForge STLs for hordes. Custom skeletons, thugs, etc. Something you only need one style of but plan to print a large number. Granted you lose out in pose variety, but some people may not mind that.
I've printed 2 SkullForge minis on my Ender 3 and they look amazing. I just downloaded the two Heroforge trial minis to see if I can get the same quality as I did with SkullForge.
I did not realize hero forge had test files, I will have to try them out. I use desktop hero mostly my self for printing. And use hero fordge for making paper minis
I gladly pay HF 20$ per mini and have detailed cleaned primed mini ready to paint without need of expensive gear or hours spent trying out myself. Saves me money and time
One day I'll probably break down and buy at least one from them. Surprisingly one of my favorite miniatures is one I designed and had to really adjust on desktophero3d. Great video 😄
Man the AnyCubic details are just amazing. It's too bad I got a lemon. It'll give me time to build an enclosure though, I reacted pretty bad to the resin fumes, gave me a headache and hurt my sinuses.
I would say, while the level of detail and customization of heroforge is currently no match for the free alternatives, I feel like Desktop Hero's assets are often misused. I got some really good and detailed resolts from desktop hero, but the fact is t to succeed there needs to be a lot more 3D modelling after you download their STL files. I mean, I often see people making the character, downloading the file, put it in a slicer, scale it and print it, and sometimes they see "Oh this model doesn't slice well, I will not print it". But the thing is Desktop hero does not unify its models, you need to import your file to a DCC and perform some boolean operations to make it whole and maybe work a bit more with the pose and other stuff. I always Import the desktoHero's .stl to Bender, apply a subsurface modifier, sculpt out the artifacts and do some boolean operations. Sure it's not small work and it requires 3D modeling knowledge, but after that I can achieve a level of quality that is definitively closer to the Heroforge standard. So, Hero Forge is the best at the moment, but many people actually don't realize the real value of the free alternative.
If you get the digital download, is it easier to print a larger scale vs a mini or is the setup for that just as tricky? Like the one you showed in this video.
Sorry for the (potential) ignorant question: I noticed that Heroforge allows to send a steel version. Is it worth the extra? I'm a bit worried that the plastic will either melt or easily break off.
I can say, the price is cheaper now. I just downloaded one for $7.99. I had heard some libraries have 3D printers and I wanted to see what the quality is like. Sadly, it seems my file might be too big and complicated for any to attempt for me. Alas, maybe one day I shall own a 3D printer!
Hi! It would be great to see how can you improve the quality on the Ender3 with the incoming custom supports on cura! I really hope you make a video on that regard. I'll be waiting for more content from you. Great video as usual! Cheers!
I'm not very knowledgeable with 3d prints, so there one thing I wanted to know, could you up scale a design if you wanted to to, or is much more complicated to try?
General Question - I've been leaning towards Resin printing, mostly because the scanlines on fdm printers do distract me. However, I've heard some other printer reviewers say that resin materials tend to be more fragile (as in extreme care required). I'm curious what your experience with this is.
You show fighter ministers from thingiverse the one in the middle. I would very much like to. Get! But can’t seem to find it there. Any help on how or where I can find it would be very much appreciate! Any one?
hey, great video!! I'm really struggling with printing minis on my 3d printer, I have the JGaurora A5. Is that bad for printing them? if i try to do layers any lower than 0.1 I have trouble with my first layer not even attaching to my print bed. also when I get successful print my supports are just too strong and can't be removed.
I use a bunch of different paints actually. You can see some of the different paints I use in some of my painting videos. But if I had to choose a favorite starter set, it would probably the Vallejo starter set: amzn.to/2Sa4C60 Cheers!
Honestly... my biggest problem with Heroforge minis is that a lot of parts, like female arms, are scarily thin - some supports are thicker and stronger than, for example, the Explorer's upper arm. There's also no chain maille of any kind available...
Chain can be a difficult texture to print because of auto-support generations reading them as super steep overhangs making supports a mess there. But the thinness is a thing - and part of why they're so difficult. Great comment!
There's an option for chest clothing in the HeroForge editor simply called "Chain Mail Shirt". You're probably going to need a resin printer to actually get any detail though.
I honestly missed that. But... it's not very well defined, looking at it... even resin printed it would just be vague and bumpy, unlike sculpted white metal minis...
Hey I’m new to 3D printing and I have the same ender 3 printer as you do you think you could make a video on the basis of 3D printing and printing out files from thingiverse and editing them and so on thank you
Hi there! Welcome to the hobby :) I recently started series for you. Check it out: Your First 3D Printed Miniatures - Print & Paint Series: th-cam.com/play/PL74Uq_D0OaB5NjhP4c_nWve_wq1iyd2H7.html
I would say that $10 per mini stl file isn't worth it when you can get a decent 1KG roll of filament for $15. Think about it. Is one file worth almost a whole roll of filament? No of course not when you can print out probably 100 minis on that one roll. And especially not worth it when there's so many free mini files. I've been rewatching your videos lately as I print and they still are some of the best informational videos out there. :{J
ive been playing D&D in one iteration or the other for ..40 years ::insert smirk here:: and i can create a char in minutes..full detail down to how many coins they have in their pockets...that had an estimated value of around 900 bucks before i finished creating all the chars i have loved over time. O.o, yeah..hero forge is great but..i just don't have that. SO, i have thank you from the top of my lizard brain to the tips of my mage toes for the news of desktophero. I love it! thank you sooo much..now im off to learn from YOU how to do this right on my aneta8 (im crying right now so, sorry lol)
Dude great video. I never heard of the sites you mentioned. And I love that video you did on the settings to use. I've been playing with them and getting some decent results. I'm mainly printing Warhammer and Star Wars Legion stuff. But your videos are what set me on that path. :{D
Love the videos, thanks for an honest and informative review. Just my two cents, (probably worth less than that) at the price point of 10 bones it really doesn't seem worth it. There are 1000's of minis to chose from and more and more coming out. Don't get me wrong, I print minis and use them in game, but they just don't compare to a good mini (GW or Deepcuts), or even a cheap mini. (Deepcuts or bones) If im spending more than a few bucks, Id prefer to buy a few minis and mod them and make a custom mini that has better detail and save the time and money... I love cutting up the reaper bones goblins just for that reason, cheap torches and whips that look great on other minis later. Besides is sucks when a player breaks a mini in the middle of a game that i printed. I dont care too much but they always apologize over and over again about breaking a arm or a sword.
All very valid points! I own more than a few GW, Deepcuts, and Reaper minis too. No shame in that. I have bought just a few like I mentioned, but don't really plan on buying more than that. My experience has been that both FDM prints and resin prints are brittle and much less durable than other minis. It's great that you can just reprint it, but if you're taking the time to really print and finish them, it can be extra disheartening. I think the reason folks are drawn to 3D printing minis is because you put a lot of work into the process, and seeing something you put a lot of heart and soul kinda appearing like magic on a printer is a special thing. Then when it's done and you've done finishing, you grow even more attached to it. There's a personal sentiment that just feels more novel than a store IMO. Even if it ends up costing you more both in money and time in the end. Thanks again for your comment and your support!
at 10 bucks a pop it is literally twice as expensive as buying a professionally done and painted mini. Why would anybody do this? Instead of having to buy a 3d printer, the plastic cartridge, and the blueprint, you just throw down a $5 at a store and get one. Unless this is in actuality, only comparing the various download blueprint and print the actual mini yourself style of minis?
htennek1 yes it is a little expansive, for a single model you pay the extra for the customization. It becomes economically worthy if you print a bunch for a wargame, where after the 10$ you can print every si gle mini for 0.5-1$
All this bashing of hero forge, is unwarranted… The price is fair! Think about it, you get a personal MINI you can use at your sessions! $50 is a fair price for a full color, mini…even if you were dumb enough to insert long poles onto your mini (buy super glue). It’s worth it, and fun! Seriously, what’s your alternative? Oh? You gonna do your own? Ok While your doing that, I’ll already be three games deep into a campaign. And getting ready to buy my second hero forge, character. What you get for your $&$ at hero forge is convenience and expedited. Not to mention custom through a simple interface. Stop whining, and pay the price, if you can’t afford it, you shouldn’t have a comment on it.
Definitely not my best paint job, but it was the only fully painted HF mini I've done so far - so I shared it :) I have a few friends who are at another level, they're helping me with targeted feedback and I'm working on it every week! Thank you for your comment!
Personally I'd rather have HF make my character and mail it to me. It'll take a bit longer but I think it'll end with a lot less headaches and I don't need to bug my friends that have printers with making my crap only for them to go "The print fucked up and I don't feel like printing it a million times for you to have your perfect mini so here's your melted piece of crap."
I'm going to say no, they are still $10 a mini even for the file unless prices changed sense I last looked. Unless you plan on playing a 1-20 slow game I wouldn't say its worth it unless your printing NPCs you need quite a few of but figure there plenty online for free such as guards. Unless I wanted to paint for display I wouldn't pay that per model file for things only use once.
Personally I am very unimpressed by all the 3D prints I have seen. They are very simplistic & low detail. For example a beard on a normal decent quality miniature will have individual hairs where the 3D ones have a basic beard shape with some contours, but smooth with no texture. I find them soulless, you can see they are computer generated shapes rather than sculptures. I would not even want to paint one if you gave it to me for free.
Stop using "it depends" because to any rational person, it ALWAYS depends so there is no need to say it. Just give me the metric and avoid the rhetoric.
Thanks for your comment. I think your missing one part here, Phillip: There are both rational AND irrational people watching, and I need to be explicit in this sorta deal if it's the title of the video. Have a great rest of your week.
nope I hate hero forge, Its useless to me so far. of the dozen times I attempted to access the site I only got onto it twice, and both times froze so could never finish.
🎉Hey ya'll! We have a D&D Book + STL Kickstarter coming on Aug 3rd! Check it out here: 3dpt.me/uncharted-yt
Thanks for the support!
Just an update for everyone, the .STL files on HeroForge are now only 7.99. the minis are a lot cheaper and I believe that it is definitely worth it.
Prints could be made as statues, in 200% size or bigger. Loss of detail on a FDM print is OK on a battle scarred statue. Great for terrain, especially if you order one STL and decorate a building with lots of prints from it.
Wonderful suggestions! YES! And even then as you saw - scaling them up still looks pretty great.

This really made me appreciate the quality of the work I've gotten from heros forge. Sometimes I get very detailed and difficult things from them
I have printed a couple myself, One I made for a Pathfinder game I'm playing in, and one for another player who saw my results and bought his own and asked me to print.

Math? And logic? In D&D? Who'd of ever fucking imagined lol.
This is an excellent point, ive been hesitant myself about using herofroge for homebrew enemies but i think i kight jave to try it with some
You forgot the cost of the plastic.
If I was gonna use them for townsfolk, I'd much rather by a pack of multiple different townsfolk for $10 and print this for same cost and more variety. Otherwise, I'm with ya in this one too :)
For FDM, You need a denser infill than the support so the support snaps off but not the mini itself.
I got a couple HeroForge stl files with the intent of scaling the model up and making some Fire Giants. My Monoprice Mini Delta handled them great, very satisfied with the result.
HeroForge minis look great scaled up on FDM printers! Glad you're enjoying them! Thanks for your comment :)
So you have had good results with the Mini Delta? I was thinking about getting one. :D
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hope it's helpful for those who haven't heard of, or tried, this method yet.
Also, folks can rescale it, print as many times as they want - and I do think there's value in that too (even though this just compensates for minis being weaker than traditionally cast/spun models.)
Personally, all my main minis were either Reaper or WizKids, but in 1 year we've come a long ways in both tech, models available, and knowledge of the hobby.
Great comments either way! Thank you again for your time!
No doubt for that cost you can find something professionally made for less and simply convert it to match your vision.
This is also why I mention some of the free alternatives though - they're worth consideration as well in the grand scheme of things :)
where this can shine is oop mini's
Or if you are like me and live in a country where the games workshop minis are way too experience
Hi everyone!
Have you experienced the joys (or the pain) of printing your own HeroForge miniatures? Leave a comment and let us know how it went!
I'll get my printer on Monday, set it up, and then contemplate the arduous task of choosing what you print first 😛
If you get stuck: th-cam.com/play/PL74Uq_D0OaB5NjhP4c_nWve_wq1iyd2H7.html Cheers :)
I love HeroForge, happy to have backed them on Kickstarter. My only issue with their sculpts are gripes and not worth harping on.
"Failed Print" or "Greenstuff Opportunity" ?
@hethdavid media1.tenor.com/images/067bb2e4df4aaa6d8c702eb9eabb0964/tenor.gif?itemid=11478682
I feel the same way. Also why I like printing minis on FDM vs. resin at the cost of quality sometimes TBH. Just so nice to not worry about cost.
When you say that there are free minutes you can down load. The knights in the middle with wings on his helmet is perfect where can I find that mini?
Yeah no problem, I'll post them up now 👍🏻
I like the idea or making a larger print just like something to have in a gaming room. It is something i had not really though of
The one I showed, Felonius Monk, was printed because a player in the party would often cast Enlarge on him - so he did that to swap the mini out.
I have bought about a dozen Heroforge stl files and i love them.
Cheers Rupert! They just had a sale too for Black Friday $4/STL. Pretty nice!
@@3DPrintedTabletop no, it was terrible. 1) the week prior i bought 5 models and 2) that day i bought like a dozen more because the price was so good. 😀
At least this time i was modeling figures for use as soldiers and gaurdsmen so i will make lots of prints
I have printed around 4 hero forge minis, they prove a good challenge for my CR10. One day i want to get an sla or a dlp machine and try my hand at it. But i am happy with the results... HOWEVER i do not live in america, here prices in dollars are a bit too much. But some times i cant help it, i scrounge the dough and put it up because the mini i made just looks phenomenal... and i don't have the time to make my own (i could, i can model in zbrush, blender, maya, yadda yadda) But i need to concentrate in making a living XD so for now miniature prints are self indulging guilty pleasures
Good vid man! keep it up!
Thank you again for your comment, Antonio. I've seen all of your minis - and I'm sure your players love them so much :)
Well said! Resin printing DOES have it's challenges (I'm learning about support generation and orientation the hard way now lol), but once you get the process down it gets much smoother :)
Also: I've only met one person with a Photon, D7, and Moai - but from what I've seen it looks like the end results of the minis on Photon/D7/Moai isn't too far off. I am just adding this so someone reads it and doesn't think the Moai is the only option for good quality :)
Thanks for your comment, Jason!
Great video. Have yet to print an Heroforge mini but the ones I've seen premade and posted have great quality.
Thank you! They're definitely great minis :)
Hey Jari! This series I recently started is for you: th-cam.com/play/PL74Uq_D0OaB5NjhP4c_nWve_wq1iyd2H7.html I hope it helps :)
3:30 wouldn't something like a mars or other $200ish resin printer be a more fair comparison?
Another top-notch video thank you buddy
Thank you so much!
Yes and its about getting exactly what you want, and when n if you see something that you like elsewhere thats a diffrent thing
Another great video, Danny. Gotta get my Ender fixed and then I'm going to be doing the test models.
Thanks Jim! Really appreciate it! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)
I do see some value in buying HeroForge STLs for hordes. Custom skeletons, thugs, etc. Something you only need one style of but plan to print a large number. Granted you lose out in pose variety, but some people may not mind that.
You are probably better off getting into a kickstater for better models
I've printed 2 SkullForge minis on my Ender 3 and they look amazing. I just downloaded the two Heroforge trial minis to see if I can get the same quality as I did with SkullForge.
So how did it go?
hello earth to Matthew bane ---- no reception
I did not realize hero forge had test files, I will have to try them out. I use desktop hero mostly my self for printing. And use hero fordge for making paper minis
Let us know how it goes! PJ over at Roll For Damage did an awesome video on making cardstock minis out of HeroForge in case you hadn't seen it :)
3D Printed Tabletop his vid is what got me started on making custom paper minis
He's the man. Always loved his work and his attitude so much. Thanks for your comment again!
Hope you can get that solved soon man! Love your Dragonborn BTW - beautiful job
Hey!!! Love love love your videos 😀
Great content. Thanks Danny!
Thanks so much, Jason! Really appreciate that.
I wish to have a character done which is not a hero printed..its is for table top game can you suggest where I should look. Thanks
Can you suggest a program for creating files to print? Not premade designs, but actually start to finish making a item design and so forth?
Blender is good for 3d modeling but then you have to convert the file
Hi, I have one question. Does the Polycrylic help to make layers lines disappear if I am going to prime and paint the minis afterwards?
I can say, the price is cheaper now. I just downloaded one for $7.99. I had heard some libraries have 3D printers and I wanted to see what the quality is like. Sadly, it seems my file might be too big and complicated for any to attempt for me. Alas, maybe one day I shall own a 3D printer!
what are the dimensions of the bases for things like wargs or centaurs?
I havent had an issue with heroforge printed minis on my elegoo mars
Hi! It would be great to see how can you improve the quality on the Ender3 with the incoming custom supports on cura! I really hope you make a video on that regard. I'll be waiting for more content from you. Great video as usual! Cheers!
Hey! I'm going to give it a shot - it's such a new feature/plugin, I hope it works well. Might take me a bit :)
I am really looking forward to see it. Cheers! ;)
Any one?
Will you share your awsome ednder 3D cura settings?
Cool video! Super helpful!
Thanks Pang! Much appreciated!
Great video. Just got my ender 3 in the mail. ✌️
Thanks Ruben! Excited to see what you print with it! :)
I ordered an ender 3 too! Excited to use it for DnD!
hey, great video!!
Wow... i didnt expect that quality from the ender 3.
Oh unclaimed territory's artwork !
What settings do you use on printing minis? I'm just curious because I printed a mini out and it came out only OK. Cheers!
how u painted? I mean, with which paintings?¿
I use a bunch of different paints actually. You can see some of the different paints I use in some of my painting videos. But if I had to choose a favorite starter set, it would probably the Vallejo starter set: amzn.to/2Sa4C60 Cheers!
What $200 printer would you recommend for someone that has no clue what they're doing
What is STL and Table download means
Love his voice 😎
Honestly... my biggest problem with Heroforge minis is that a lot of parts, like female arms, are scarily thin - some supports are thicker and stronger than, for example, the Explorer's upper arm.
I think 3d printing is definitely the future. It's just not there yet.
It is for a lot of folks! Really fun way to participate in the tech development and process. I'm really enjoying it so far. Cheers!
Is there a good colored printer? You know one that would print colored minis.
Generally 3d printers will only print one or two colors of filament at once, I don't believe there are 3d printers that can do what you're asking.
3D Printed Tabletop thanks and you should also make a video on that translucent green mini that is on you’re Instagram it’s looks great
Stay tuned :)
What about desktop hero 2.0
I would say that $10 per mini stl file isn't worth it when you can get a decent 1KG roll of filament for $15.
Think about it. Is one file worth almost a whole roll of filament? No of course not when you can print out probably 100 minis on that one roll.
And especially not worth it when there's so many free mini files.
I've been rewatching your videos lately as I print and they still are some of the best informational videos out there. :{J
Only worth it for the player characters in my opinion
@@rickdejong6494I don't see it, but opinions. :{J
ive been playing D&D in one iteration or the other for ..40 years ::insert smirk here:: and i can create a char in minutes..full detail down to how many coins they have in their pockets...that had an estimated value of around 900 bucks before i finished creating all the chars i have loved over time.
Can you a little closer to the camera next time?
Dude ya need to Voice Acting!!! awesome Content. thanks
Dude great video. I never heard of the sites you mentioned.
And I love that video you did on the settings to use. I've been playing with them and getting some decent results.
I'm mainly printing Warhammer and Star Wars Legion stuff. But your videos are what set me on that path. :{D
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad that I've been able to help a bit. Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff! :)
(Deepcuts or bones)
If im spending more than a few bucks, Id prefer to buy a few minis and mod them and make a custom mini that has better detail and save the time and money...
MrFutsy I think I'll probably use this as a gift to my players since in March we will go out separate ways in life. So for very specific characters.
at 10 bucks a pop it is literally twice as expensive as buying a professionally done and painted mini.
It becomes economically worthy if you print a bunch for a wargame, where after the 10$ you can print every si gle mini for 0.5-1$
Minis that fail become bronze statues.
pass the Gcode please
All this bashing of hero forge, is unwarranted…
The price is fair!
Ok
While your doing that, I’ll already be three games deep into a campaign.
And getting ready to buy my second hero forge, character.
What you get for your $&$ at hero forge is convenience and expedited. Not to mention custom through a simple interface.
Stop whining, and pay the price, if you can’t afford it, you shouldn’t have a comment on it.
Please thin your paints
Definitely not my best paint job, but it was the only fully painted HF mini I've done so far - so I shared it :) I have a few friends who are at another level, they're helping me with targeted feedback and I'm working on it every week! Thank you for your comment!
Im a paladin so I got my mini free
It depends isn't an answer. If you're gonna talk about a question, then answer it on how you actually think. Why can't people just hop the damn fence.
He did answer it.
$10 each? Ouch
watching this mid print no supports
Skills as a 3D printer? Well considering I'm a human...
Youre too close to the screen.
tbh i thought 3d printing was just giving it a picture and saying make it
desktophero3d.com is free, probably not as good but a good test at least
It's 20 dollars!
can t afford to spend 10$ for each of these models, they all look the same anyway
Definitely not for everyone - and I can't afford $10 for many either! Which is also why I brought up the style :)
They definitely are not worth the £27.99 UK price for them to send you one out complete rip off
Personally I am very unimpressed by all the 3D prints I have seen.
