Some quick hits about Simo Häyhä. Nickname The White Death by the Red Army or Finnish Propaganda, he’s the deadliest sniper of WW2 and possibly all time. During the Winter War he wore all white to blend in with the snow in -40 to -4 degree F weather. All 500 kills were achieved in less than 100 days with a rifle that didn’t even have a telescopic scope. A true Finnish hero.

There is way more badass stuff about him. He was shot in the face permanently disfiguring him and still went back to sniping. He would put snow in his mouth so you couldn't see his breath in the cold. Dudes just literally invisible, including what you said about lack of a scope. He didn't want any light to refract off it, giving his position away so he did all of this with his damn iron sights lol crazy. Imagine knowing you have to patrol that forest and you know he's somewhere out there waiting for you and there's nothing you can do. Must have been terrifying

This man they speak of got almost all of these kills in the span of two weeks. Dude got shot in the face and kill like 150 more people. He was literally putting snow in his mouth while he was sniping so his opposition couldn’t see the steam from his breath as he was breathing in the winter air. Absolutely insane story

No one serving in the last two hundred plus years has been fighting for us. I respect Nick, but he wasn't fighting for us, and he's admitted as much himself. With all the politicians who openly campaign on wanting to violate our rights, undermine the constitution and the people who took an oath to uphold it, to defend us, sit on their hands and wait for orders to go somewhere else, get involved in someone else's shit. 20 years in Afghanistan for nothing. Dudes who came home with missing limbs, maimed, disfigured, ptsd, so Boeing and Halliburton could make money. So politicians and corporatists could collude to line their pockets. Iraq so Bush jr could get his payback for his dad.
No one is a greater threat to our freedoms and way of life here, than our own politicians. And they are who the military serves, their interests are what the military protects. Just like cops.

Simo said in a interview once that he's lucky to not have had any sleeping problems, not during the war nor after. He said that he only did what he was told as that was his duty. He was a very humble man just like many Finnish veterans were. It's part of Finnish culture not to brag or show off.

What is most mindblowing for me, and something not too many mention:
The 2nd most successful sniper of the time had 500+ confirmed kills throughout the entirety of World war II.

I love that he has knowledge about the fight us finns had during that time. Simo häyhä is a legend in finland and is talked about. He didnt fight in the continuation war because of his injuries and sometime people wonder why finland sided with the nazis but they were the only ones that helped us really. I myself served conscription service in reconnaisance company with my expertise being a sniper and a forward observer i think that is right word calling in artillery strike for important targets if found and i am in active reserve after active service that trains us multiple times. Sometimes dont want to but it is what it is no choiche. Häyhä and lauri törni were the ones talked about most. In our unit the teachings of lauri törni were still very active. Stamina, agressivenes and good shooting. Other legends we had on our unit wall were for example mikko pöllä. Exactly If i remember correctly he had about 300 kills with the suomi kp not ppsh so thats 200 with the scopeless mosin before the war he was a hunter and a civil guard member who took part in the shooting contests and won quite a few trophys those are the skill facts that made him good. he was also very good in our finnish nature propably due to hunting so he knew how to survive he mostly went on missions alone for his own comfort scoped out his positions day before the mission the shots he took was not close by either there was some distance but thats obvious.. whats interesting is that he appernantly didnt have no ptsd or nightmares after the war according to him.

In those wars they clearly knew who their enemy was whereas in Iraq and Afghanistan you always didn't know who the enemy until they started shooting at you. Testosterone is a hell of a drug. Makes men reactive and aggressive in combat, great traits in CQC. And all that extra muscle makes moving in kit much easier. But when the job is to inch into position to put a single round down field, it's not a net benefit. If you look at the total number of men vs women who have been snipers in history, it's crazy disproportionate, and yet several of the greats have been women. The same traits that make men better fighters in general, make women better snipers.

Naw he makes some good points women are patient. They wait for the right time and then they strike. I served with someone who cheated on his woman for years. He thought she was just taking it but she waited patiently for our deployment and when he went advon she threw a party. She definitely paid him back. Women can be patient cold and calculated.

Historian Risto Marjomaa questions the large number, as confirmation of casualties was difficult due to the absence of the bodies. In his article, published by the The National Biography of Finland, Marjomaa credited Häyhä with the total number of "more than two hundred" kills.Complicating matters further is the use of Häyhä's achievements as a tool of propaganda: the Finnish press built a hero's myth around Häyhä at the early stage of the war.
According to Soviet Army medical data, the Soviet 56th Rifle Division lost 678 killed in December 1939. According to this, Simo Häyhä had to have killed 25% of the dead soldiers of the division and been responsible for 100% of his battalion's achievements (2nd Battalion of the 34th Regiment). Russian Historian Oleg Kiselev claimed Häyhä could not have killed so many, crediting him with the total number of "one company" (100 men) sniper kills
