Nice tips man. Thanks. You remind me of a young Abraham Laboriel. Love Abe’s playing. You’re tone is killer no matter what setting. Proves that 95% of tone is in the hands.
you prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother for the last couple of days =)
Hi Travis, I have been watching your videos and I commend you for the clear explanations you provide us bass players on your view points about technique and good sound on the instrument. Thank you so much. Keep uo the good work :)
I play at church with flatwound and everybody that hears me the first time always ask how i get my tone and most of the bassist were always so curious I can tell you it works and they love it
I didn't realize that a lot of tone is in the hands! I wonder if action has any impact? I tried lowering action to get that raspy, dry tone I hear on your bass. Didn't find it too helpful, but then I discovered that where I place my finger between two frets makes all the difference in the world. Pull it back, you get "raspier", push it forward, you get "cleaner". I don't know if I am making sense. Anyway, thanks for the great lesson!
Thanks and if you see this like it plz. The first thing I ever learned was that video 3 years ago (3 simple bass groove’s) and your amazing and. PS you are the best
Hey Travis, your channel is awesome by the way. I was curious about your thoughts on string gauges and in particular the b-string. I've been thinking to go lighter as I want more clarity, but I've had people actually tell me to go bigger as you get more tension. Any tips on this?
I think it's personal. It's what feels comfortable to you and gets a good tone. I use very light for a softer tone, and less pressure on the hands and on the bass.
I follow you you are great! That’s not all It’s colored. Colored tone is the best tone(protools). What are you running thru Travis. I like your tone is it just your bass
What is your signal path to record these videos.? Straight into a sound card? If so which or you coming out of a head and then into a recording device?
Tower of Power Bass with Rocco, back in the day,was ground breaking . Finger Funk. Sly and Larry Graham got me Slappin. But , Larrys best tune was, "If you want me to stay". A little muffle on that too... Keep playing Brudda.
U're so right Warren Rocco is a unique bass player with a unique style of playing I like Victor Wootens advice the process of learning to play muting Rocco style will give you your own style if you don't get caught up in imitating, work the technique! I appreciate what u're doing Travis keep hitting us with these techniques!

Save yourself some time, and just listen to - and study Rocco Prestia's muting technique.....So imitated..but never duplicated .
Tower of Power Bass with Rocco, back in the day,was ground breaking . Finger Funk. Sly and Larry Graham got me Slappin. But , Larrys best tune was, "If you want me to stay". A little muffle on that too... Keep playing Brudda.
