Man dude I was just telling my wife I feel stuck and don’t know what to practice you just gave me a lot of homework and I appreciate this lesson it was perfect timing thanks bro God bless you man!!!
Thanks for slowing the exercises down. Most youtubers who teach, are into flexing their chops, and flashing some tabs on the screen. What you do is exactly what the people are looking for!
LOL! Love the bottom lip bite! It's a bassist's go-to face. I love it. I think it really comes out when you get to that intermediate level of playing when you are comfortable laying down a fat groove, locking in with the drummer, and you physically feel that amazing feeling of throwing it down. Loved this lesson. I have some stuff to work on because I have only ever been intermediate level and now I want to bump up my skills. My church is going to think I went to a gospel church and took a few lesson from the 4 hour long worship sessions! haha
Awe bro .. you just soo awesome you said letters hehehe and i m new here like every praise.. I'm new to like to jazz type and your kind music and i wanna play good for the lord and church .. so thanks good bless you thank you
Glad I found this ....I want to get halfway as good as my cousins justin James I'm sure you heard of my cousin Eddie he sings that "I can never repay you lord for what you done for me" song ....you've been so faithful (I like to brag on my kinfolk) but I'm trying to get as good as them
Great exercizes, thank you! I would however suggest to start the exercizes on the upper part of the fretboard. Doesnt make any sence to start out on the hardest part of the neck.
I’ve been on hold for the past 40min with an airline, guess what I’ve been working on while I wait. Thanks Travis, this is soooo helpful, and part of my daily practice now.
Get a 4 string , string it with Flatwounds and raise the action and practice.. start a scale at a slow tempo then try to pick up your tempo but don’t be in a rush.. this will help your strength, dexterity, tone and articulation . It definitely helps if you’re and everyday player but some are not and that’s ok.doesn’t mean you can’t improve.. Personally I’ve used Tuba and Trombone suites solo pieces that has help me improve every way..also as Travis has mention practicing shout music ( and also Blue Grass) will help you tremendously
I just wanted to thank you Travis I really appreciate what you are doing it's helping me more than you know I'm a disable first responder with lots of time now i can finally understand my bass better thanks and god bless
Great job Travis, my fingering on the Chromatic exercise sucks, my little finger will not reach the fourth fret. Do they make finger extensions? I'll continue to practice these two notes at 60 bpm, Thank you.
does anyone know of an easier of doing the hammer/pull off exercise, I’m a beginner and it’s kinda difficult 😅, everytime I try to hammer, I hammer the wrong strings and sometimes notes, it’s a mess 😭. Travis please assist or anyone in the comment section
If your string action is really high this can be a very difficult exercise. If you’re learning from a beginner level, slow it down as slow as you need to so you can play it as clean as possible while you practice with a metronome. To get faster just progress yourself 5-10bpm each time you are wanting to get faster. So for example, if you started practicing at 30bpm on your metronome and you want to push yourself, change your bpm to 35-40bpm. Hopefully that helps!
@@TravisDykes thank you so much for the advice Travis, the action might be the problem because I’m using a brand new bass and strings normally buzz everytime I play , no matter which string I pluck 😅. I have to say, your videos are helping me daily I’m glad I’m subscribed to the best bass tutor on this platform 🙏🏿.
Note 2 self ;)
02:58 #1 Left - Chromatic > up the neck IPMR, down the neck PIRM
07:07 #2 Left - Hammer on/pull off up/down the neck > pluck Index once, hammer on/pull off with PRMRP
10:17 #3 Left - Shout line > three times a day: 5 min, 8 min, 10 min
13:23 #4 Right - Slide up/down the neck while plucking, 5 times per string
15:28 #5 Right - Major scale forwards/backwards & up the neck, 4 plucks per note
17:26 #6 Right - Pentatonic scale with fifths forwards/backwards, double plucking
How do I pin a comment?

If your string action is really high this can be a very difficult exercise. To get faster just progress yourself 5-10bpm each time you are wanting to get faster.

Great job creator bassist, I watching your video from indonesia. 👍👍👍
For the chromatic exercise, What can I do when I feel like my pinky cant reach far enough down to hit the fourth fret without sliding down my hand?
Make a video on your bass bro pls. Like you actual bass and all the hardware of your bass. And how you got in to bass and your inspirations.
Merciii beaucoup 🤗
