I personally believe that haven’t Owen blown the warheads, he would’ve actually helped the former Requiem crew to escape, but because the missiles hit him, he lost control over himself and tried to kill everyone (similar to Harrow, where she has two sides, her true side being more remorseful, and her other being driven by rage)
My one complaint with it is that amalgams spawn in before you complete the Nathan steps. I didn't do the easter egg during my first couple playthroughs, so when I finally did it the moment didn't shock me as much because I already seen so many amalgams.
