The band didn't get along well with Navarro because they lost Hillel Slovak to a heroin overdose, John quit/was fired due to his heroin addiction, their singer was struggling to stay clean himself, and here was Navarro also doing heroin. Then they fired poor Josh Klinghofer in favor of getting John back. I don't think it's fair to compare the late Slovak to the others, so I'm not including him in this comparison. He gets his own separate category.

He keeps the frusciante vibes on rhcp songs (with john) (one great example is this video) and go play his own style in ohm songs. He is the type of guitarist that gives a song what stylee it need. One Hot Minute is easily one thier best records - when john does something like that people freak and say he is amazing (which is true) but Dave could do this in his sleep all night long, the guitar playing on OHM was incredible... I hope the new chili pepper record has some of the old energy in it this time...

I’m 99.9% sure this is their performance at the Reading Festival (UK) in 1994. I was there, and to this day it is still THE best gig I’ve ever seen. An astonishing 3hr headline set that closed the festival, with some of the best freestyle playing ever. And so e pretty cool flame 🔥 throwing hats too.
Dave said he wasn't great at the funk vibe of the peppers but he sure did bring some great heavy rock tone. Good lineup for the time period they were playing.
That's what I love about Dave in RHCP. He really brought the balls back into that band when they needed. It's like going back to the same routine when Hillel was alive, "Funk metal". I love John's style of playing, but he made RHCP into more of a pop medicore band, and it gets old pretty fast.
I thought One Hot Minute was a great album, but the older material wasn’t as good live. Navarro was awesome on the tracks he recorded. But, now there’s three albums the band will never touch again. Every other guitarist had to play Frusciante material, but he won’t touch any of those records. Kind of a shame.

A lot of fans dislike Dave, and I think their opinion is tainted by the bad way things ended, but Dave is an amazing guitarist, and “One Hot Minute” is an amazing album.
I think that this all depends on when you fell in Love with the peppers for the first time. I started with mother's milk, then discovered the albums before that and bssm have me the rest...long awaited ohm left me first confused and shocked (especially the first single 'warped'!!!) But then I loved it, especially Dave's guitar work is so laid back and different from John's style, rather technically 'advanced' than John's powerful intuitive style esp. when it comes to soloing.i can't listen to the the last peppers albums slightly had problems with 'by the way' because I miss the 'real' bluesy funk and the voice lines and simple chords are sooo boring for me, nothing new compared to those 'old days' shit.... In the end, I'm (personally) quite disappointed with their development, but overall extremely thankful for the good stuff they created and how they influenced me and my personal and musical development...
One hot minute is an incredibly underrated album, I love it and Navarro is a beast…sorry frusciante fanboys… having said that, the essence of the rhcp sound is with john
Did anyone ever even question his ability? He's been incredible since he first ever hit the scene. Played in 2 of the biggest alt rock bands of the 90's. Incredible work.
One hot minute is an awesome album, so different to any other chillis album, the fact he was able to instantly add his own flavour to a massively established band is super impressive.
Who knew that coming out on stage wearing one sock would lead to such beautiful music and some of the best stage performances of any band. I listen to them almost daily easy one of ths best bands off all time.
Navarro injected some serious balls into their music when he was there. I wish they had done more records together. I havent been into them since John came back, too mellow for me.

I grew up around a lot of musicians/music snobs. Fist fights were had over liking this or that. So when discussing Red Hots, everyone I knew dismissed One Hot Minute they loved Blood Sugar and of course the really poppy harmonies of the next two, but looking back I can't think of a more eclectic album from the RHCP. And I'm furthers thing from a Dave Navaro fan yet I think One Hot Minute is their most interesting album. I'm waiting for a lighting strike or something even admitting that.
Everyone jokes but Dave is seriously talented. He reminds me of Prince how he plays like that. And, he’s a solid dude. No scandal with him.. he treats people and fans super nice and loves that people enjoy his music. He’s genuine.. what you see is what you get.

Navarro's playing is very unpredictable and unorthodox, the fact that Flea can find the same groove and match/walk all over it is incredibly impressive.
The note he picks at 0:31 during the solo sounds so cool and he lets it hang and adds some wah to make it just weep and really stands out, truly awesome and underrated guitarists and amongst peppers fan unappreciated in my eyes. I bloody love OHM and Janes Addiction.
So they’re playing “If you have to ask” but that’s not the normal solo. It’s actually from another song, and while he plays the solo he sings the vocals for the part. Something like “I’ll be far away. Only for today.” That’s a whole different song but I can’t remember it!
People hate on Dave Navarro but dudes a real legend man, had it hard in life and earned his spot there. People shouldn't give celebrities shit unless they do something harmful to others rather than themselves.. we should only support them in their hard times then. Everyone thinks they know better or that they can just talk about people how they want, at the end of the day that's a fuckin person too man, hurts that these people do that shit and have no remorse when the person ends up killing themselves or shying away from the public

The short time Dave Navarro was in Rhcp was pretty badass. He brought his own style to the band.
