    Hey Matt. Enjoyed the video. I've been doing screen print art for years using antiquated software (Macromedia Freehand). Been tinkering with Illustrator during the slow season trying to get a better understanding since that seems to be the industry standard. You actually viewed one of my designs in your search for ideas. Although you weren't going to put an eagle in your design, I at least got some screen time at 32:38. Thanks for the video.

    • @mikeydesignssilkscreen473
      @mikeydesignssilkscreen473  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks awesome I scrolled by it! I loved FreeHand. My favorite version was 8. I recall after MX they stopped making it, so I had to switch to Illustrator. Also preferred FreeHand, but they have made Illustrator these days more like FreeHand so the transition wont be too terrible.

    • @steveschannel4759
      @steveschannel4759 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 Yep, Freehand 8 is what I've been using for 20+ years. I'm using an old rip software that came with my Epson 3000 in 2003 for my film output. Unfortunately they don't make a rip software that will work with the new Adobe Suite that will recognize the Epson 3000 so I'm floating in a Black Hole here. I'm starting to see some of the similarities that Illustrator has adopted from Freehand. I just wish everything was called the same so that I could know what I'm doing. I've heard that I can re-assign the command keys to match how they are in Freehand to make the learning curve a little easier. You can see more of my work at Official Event Tees on Facebook, all created using Freehand 8. Keep those informative videos coming. They're very helpful for old antiques like me. Thanks

    I'm definitely interested how you get around in the screen to process & create the pattern or the visual look of what it is trying to create. I need to find a Photoshop graphic design book to freshen my memory to make this process very easy. Thanks for the video.

    Does the printing process give the graphic that much sought out “vintage” look?

    • @mikeydesignssilkscreen473
      @mikeydesignssilkscreen473  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does. To get even more of a vintage look you can print with a high mesh for the white base, and not use a top white.

      Hey Jay! I would be happy to help. I'm going to launch a free live class for Illustrator first, then I'll do a Photoshop class as well. Just trying to figure out what time works best and what day. I'm thinking around 6 or 7 pm, for an hour... maybe a Wednesday or Thursday. I'll be sure to post a video announcement before we begin. I'll go over the basics as if whomever is tuning in is new. Show what tools I mainly use, and how to get around the program more efficiently. Let me know your thoughts.

    Hi Mike,
    I watched your entire video, it is very informative but I got lost in what program to use for my needs.
    I run a group of ATV's riders and I print out two shirts a year, 4th of July and Halloween.
    Most of the time the shirts are made with my idea, but I only use apps to design them, then send them to the person who prints the shirts for me so he can do the changes for me, but with apps I can't change the colors around, and I can't add outlines where I want them to be.
    So what program do you recommend me to buy for my needs, (remember only twice a year something that I can buy for one month then cancel, no sense for me to pay for year round)
    by the way, thank you for the great videos you share, keep it up.

      You can just keep a copy of it on your clipboard, and use the command b, or control b (past behind) and then add an outline. Or you can copy the two halves, paste them behind, and use the pathfinder to unit the two shapes. I hope this helps.

Seems like 2 birds with one stone to me. I'm a complete know nothing in this space so dont be afraid to tell me I'm a know nothing. Lol. I watched this like a full length feature film bro. Hey Tyler, and thanks for the sub! You would trace the outline of the car, and parts of the car. Color the shapes with the base or medium color. Say blue. Then draw your highlights and shadows in. You can use gradients and transparencies to get it even more realistic.

      In Photoshop, Illustrating a race car from a photograph to get that somewhat illustrated still real look like a lot of race shirts have. I would assume many do this because they have low res photos and they just do not print well, so converting them into looking like an illustration lets them print much better? I think it is a common style as well with the illustration look. We do motorsports photography so we have tens of thousands of hi res photos to use. We have been getting into shirts some as we have had requests as many seek us out now for our hero card and graphic work. That being said I started with GIMP 2 years ago and use Photoshop for the first time a year ago so we are self/TH-cam taught lol. We keep learning everyday and are far from fast but the demand for our style work up here in the North East is really picking up. Here is a link to what we do, check out the Hero card section too we would love any feedback to help make it better! modsquadracingmedia.zenfolio.com/f811782889 @@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 Thanks

    Have you ever heard of copyright laws before??? I've never seen a person call them selves a designer and post a video showing them illegally stealing graphics from Google completely incriminating themselves. You give real designers a bad name telling people to do stuff like this.

    • @mikeydesignssilkscreen473
      @mikeydesignssilkscreen473  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay Nathan. I've been a designer for 20 years. How it works is, you use the photo for placement and approval before buying whatever art may have been used. Plenty of sites like ShutterStock, and istockphoto allow you to download a mockup. Perhaps this should have been explained. And for your information, the cars were all provided by the client. Had you watched further, you would realize the images pulled from the internet were for inspiration, and design ideas. Not to steal.

    • @nathans8
      @nathans8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 Starting a response with how many years you've been "designing" is not a good look. Despite the red flag that you waited 6 months to reply to this comment at all... If that's 100% true then why did you not mention that in the video anywhere or even check the website you pulled the graphic from to make sure it could be purchased? Not all images on Google are for sale.
      Also, I never said a word about the cars... though you clearly show yourself removing the watermark on it and not saying anything about how you got the rights to do that from the photographer nor talking about replacing the images with vectors. Which even so we all learned that it's illegal to vector a photo without permission from the famous Obama poster. If you don't know about that I would look it up.
      I get it, responding after 6 months to try and cover yourself probably hoping I wouldn't reply. But honestly you'd be better off taking the video down or editing it to note all the little holes you have in your story right now assuming you are truthful about paying for those graphics or getting permission from the photographer. Your video is telling viewers who don't know better that just taking stuff from Google Images and Photoshopping copyrights is ok.
