It is indeed very hard to judge the distance and direction of a tornado irl. Common rule of thumb is that if you can't see it moving left or right then it's moving towards you.

One thing to think about regarding this game, is that everytime you hit that warning button you're not just making money; you're potentially saving (digital) lives. It'd be cool to get feedback in that regard, but i also understand why the developer wouldn't want to do that. I can't imagine how low morale would get if you failed in a chase and were told how many people were injured or killed because of it.
It would give more reason to give warnings.
That kind of thing would inspire me to get better. I’d be ready to lock in, and lower those casualties, just as someone would be inspired to chase irl, for the same reasons
Roller coaster tycoon you could literally kill people intentionally. Them adding that to this game wouldn't be a huge deal.

I studied meteorology a bit in college and it's always been a favorite field of mine. I even have my own weather station. I never thought there'd be a game I could play that would involve that hobby of mine. This is awesome!
Yeah this game is about as real as it gets. After watching Max Velocity and Ryan Hall on youtube, I see this game even uses the same radar as the youtubers do.

Kinda surprising that this game got potentional. It needs supercells with huge stovepipe tornado and not just rope tornado. would be scary to drive in the dark into a big ass storm with a massive wide tornado you can't see. Ragdoll effects and flying objects is also a must imo.
The developer has stated they plan on adding wedge tornadoes, but that will probably be developed after optimization
What the other reply says, but also there is at least one stovepipe tornado in the current storm system lineup and probably more in the next rotation of scenarios
@@qazxsw21000 I don't know enough about the storm diameter specifics to say for certain, but the last tornado of Insym's previous stream was quite wide at times. If the only creteria is a more vertical/less curly funnel and fat, it kinda looked very much like that.
@@nickdubil90yeah that was a stovepipe tornado. A stovepipe is just a thick mostly vertical tornado. The rope tornadoes are what they sound like, long twisty/bendy vortices. A wedge is wider than it is visibly tall. Typically the most deadly & dangerous tornadoes.
The el Reno tornado that killed the Discovery storm chaser crew was a multi vortex that coalesced into a wedge and sped up to 50+ mph in forward speed while simultaneously reaching its largest diameter. Those poor guys just didn't have a chance with how unpredictable that was.
@nickdubil90 if you look at some of the big tornadoes that have been filmed on youtube, about 2.5miles wide at the base is about the Biggest, maybe a few at 3 miles wide at the Base but I can't remember.
The trouble with this game, I'm noticing, is that all the Tornado's are rain wrapped messes, so it's hard to see what you're actually reporting (ie the Wall Cloud). I'd highly recommend anyone to check out Pecos Hank, he makes Storm Chasing an artform and shows the highs and lows of Stormchasing, all to the sound track of his own Country music! 😊
That's how chasing is irl. A majority of tornadoes are barely visible rain wrapped messes. The game is trying to reward players with the skill to position correctly and get close enough to see them without destroying their car or dying.
@@cook1ezzI agree. 80% of the time, the tornado isn't visible. Shame, because only when they aren't killing people, tornadoes are so beautiful to see.

@@mattybob12310and you have to remember that not only are they researching tornadoes, they are also warning people in areas where not everyone can easily call the station, but maybe 1 or 2 rare clear tornadoes would be cool in the game.
Few things
1. The red box you see doesn't mean there's a tornado. It means there's radar indicated rotation. Your job is to report a tornado.
2. When a new red box appears in front of another, it doesn't mean there's two. It means the original warning has extended to another area as the storm has progressed and the old warning is going to expire.
3. Rule of thumb: If you are in the path of the storm and can't tell what direction the tornado is moving, it's moving straight towards you.
4. Love the videos and enjoy watching you play.
In real life the wind will almost be completely still right before a tornado hits. It gets very quiet & eerie. & then the wind picks up very strong.
It's another thing entirely to have it swing south, miss you, and plunge you straight into the ghost train. That hail-cooled wind and water from the cold pool will chill you to the bone. Feels like a mini micro-burst.
Yeah it's that quiet part that really sucks because you know it's all over your ass shortly by then. I've been through quite a few tornadoes and hurricanes, I would almost rather deal with the hurricane in most cases

What doesn't help that the handling in the game is terrible , but it's a known issue and will get worked on

I meant in-game/simulator. At least for the time being. Chasing in real life would involve a bit more prep work, lol. Even though the simulator doesn't have a co-op party system yet, members on my team are usually able to join at the same time to spawn into the same scenario. That method has been working decent since there's not THAT many active players at this time.
TomTom making it sound like this is going to be an IRL kinda thing that he can “get set up with his team” and “professional-ish chase team” like its all really a huge thing that he does. But, no, he just means online on his computer with some other people. Doesn’t need a team or a setup or “how it should really be done” he just means, play the game together 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm excited!! #1 Content! They should add the ability to see the storm on the mini map But also able to see the roads and gas stations also and landmarks but having the ability to move and see what is going on around you would be a huge advantage! Just like what storm chasers do with having laptops in their cars to track a storm for the 5 min update time and head into the mother of the storm!
A big storm can drop between 3-10 tornado's through its time on our planet! but the ones that drop the mile long tornados are the ones that I hope they can add to this game! Wedge Tornadoes, and tornadoes to do a lot of hopping also were they will lift and then touch back down again.

Sadly dominator 1 and 2 are broken currently but reed wants to repair them.
Funfact: Dominator 1 has seen the strongest tornado of all dominators
Dominator 3 is a beast thou. I'd feel safe driving into a small tornado in Dominator 3. I'd sh** myself, but be happy to be in the car. Reed done a podcast with blonde supercar youtuber, he explains all about Dominator 3. Great vehicle.

Regarding tornado research, if you want to see the opposite side of it to storm chasing, look up Leigh Orf's Thunderstorm Research.
He & co. managed to model a simulacrum of the entire infamous El Reno supercell with extreme detail, and uncovered some potentially previously-hidden tornado anatomy in the process. Fair warning, it gets technical at times, but the animations are worth a watch even from a casual standpoint.

Great games with time spent on them will normally be good/great to play. I think they've done a great job on this game.
Simulator games are notorious for being slow development. They're not the sexiest games ever so they really don't get funding but they make good money if done right once developed
A game doesn't need to look amazing to be entertaining, this is proof

I"ve heard that the tornados in Nederland are mostly in Brabant, Limburg. So mostly near the our borders with Belgium and Germany. In nord and south Holland we mostly have high gusts of wind ( windstoten ).

This game has such massive potential. The base concept is there already. In my opinion they should make the world feel a little bit more "alive" & lived in. Do a lot more with the vehicles & add-ons for the vehicles. & add some other rare weather events that will make you lots of money if you can record them. Maybe get some other devices that can be used to record/measure tornadoes & other rare weather events. If they did that, this game would be an AMAZING storm chaser simulator. I hope the devs follow through with whatever their plan is for this game. I am very interested in it.

About the hunter call of the wild. They have some mods that aren't to game breaking that's considered to cheat. I use a softer footstep mod to help lol 😆 makes it more fun when it's more relaxing and less stressing. 😊
Watching this while waiting for word from my landlord for what we need to do about half of a tree that fell on my house last night from a storm band that hit us from hurricane beryl.
If it’s not already in the game they should simulate the Joplin tornado that touched down in Missouri years ago. I heard it was a crazy F4 or F5 and judging by the destruction it must have been massive.
We need the El Reno tornado, the Joplin tornado, and the Rainesville tornado

you are one of the only streamers I enjoy, most are annoying/edgey and don't watch chat but you're awesome. I wanted to suggest you check out the game Storm Chasers. It's supposuptly about to get a huge update but the storms look amazing very similar to outbrk. The ONLY issue is that the map is good bit smaller but better designed.... performance is better. It doesn't use scientific data. You should check it out :D I love playing it. There's also only 1 type of radar so you won't feel so overwhelmed.
Insym should definitely watch Twister. The sequel releases next week as well. I can't wait.

Funny that insym played this right as Beryl dumped 100+ tornado warnings down south here yesterday. Very relevant to current events lol.
I wish the simulation of the wind speed at ground level as more accurate. Even those small tornadoes he's encountering should be way more brutal and dangerous to be as close as he's been to them.
I watched Max Velocity the other day when the tornado warnings come thick and fast. He said today that was the most reported in one day, beating the original record by 4 tornadoes!
Honestly if I've learned anything from storm chasing videos, it's that you can get surprisingly close to weak tornadoes, and I think part of the reason for that is because they look closer than they actually are.
I played this game for this first time today and my first tornado was a monster and I didn’t know I couldn’t put the probe on the road. It had to be off to the side and I got sucked up lol. First tornado I find and it kills me
When peeps say the "the hook" they are referring to an intersection of two colours like red and blue data, usually at the intersection of two that means a tornado could start brewing. This was a great playthrough, can't wait for more. Thank you.
The hook is actually a hook-shaped part of the storm cell on reflectivity, usually located at the…southwest(?) edge. The circular/dotted part at the end/inside of the hook is where the tornado usually touches down

Yeah at this point it's emulating the central Midwestern part of the USA. Which is.... Basically exactly like this with 1000% more corn and soybean.
Also, apparently this game is already super intensive as far as resources so adding city maps to this would basically make it unplayable to 80%+ of any market demographic

Yo Insym if you want to learn more of reading radar and whatnot, Skip Talbot made very easy to understand videos over the subject. I have no education or training in the subject other than those videos and a couple seminars. Come storm season I can tell whats going on, what looks likely and whats not going to produce. Very helpful resources.
I've mentioned a fee names to Max Velocity and Ryan Hall for radar help, I forgot about Skip Talbot. Let's hope he reads the comments!

Snow/dirt runner dev with their really interesting map panorama design and outbrk with their gorgeous weather ASMR... Will be a combo for just walking panoramic simulator game.. that just focus on map beauties and atmosphere theraphy asmr like heavy rain, snow, and etc...
The one thing that outbrk dev manage to get is.. the dark storm feeling and the view when it arrive and gone.. such a good mood to have.. i love that kind of weather personnally... So i hope the dev wont scrap their weather system if the worst happen to the game. Or their development.. such a good weather system.

Got sucked into the air for about 30 seconds, maybe more or less (adrenaline and all that) and ever so softly deposited across the street onto a pile of rubble, which turned out to be our house that got sucked up as well. My family and I walked away with minor injuries....well, limped away. Quite miraculous, yet I remain atheist.

You should watch the show Storm Chasers it was on the Discovery Channel That's where that Dominator truck comes from I can only assume that the multiplayer would be just like the way they did it they're all racing against each other it was a good show
Storm chasing goes beyond cars and tornados, there's actually a plane designed to fly into hurricanes.

The versus mode point makes me think of different stations with their own stormchasers sending them to go get footage and report back. It is has been dubbed the weather wars for a reason in the 90s after all in some markets, and that mindset carries on today with the TV meteorologists going only on this channel, when every other channel is showing the same storm from varying angles but no network even acknowledges any other stations even exist

If I'm not mistaken that's exactly what this game does. The storms are all presets and I'm pretty sure they're based on real storms. It's why they're so realistic.

25:47 is a perfect example of insym not yet fully grasping the terminology. The user whose comment he read was saying that their area was currently under tornado watch, meaning high chance of tornadoes.
With his response I feel like he understood it to mean "tornado watch" in the same sense as being on "fire watch".
You need to be south of storm then your veiw is rain free!

Tornados are my biggest fear.
They're my third biggest fear, second to nukes, which in itself is second to some unknown property of physics leading to the mass destruction of the Earth because the sun randomly explodes or something.

@@rebeccamason16112 It's terrifying to think about for me too. I have nightmares about it a lot.. I have never seen a tornado myself but I grew up in an area prone to them (who knows how many went by in seeing range without me knowing because I was hiding in a closet) and, as I just implied, my only shelter was a closet. Despite having never seen a tornado in my life, just knowing they could strike at any moment has left me what I would consider to be mildly traumatized. I have panic attacks when it rains a lot of the time. I'd like to move somewhere with less tornadoes soon. Preferably somewhere with snow in the winter, but warm enough summers that the cold blooded animals thrive still. That's my dream... I think it would ease my anxiety significantly.

Watch, it’s gonna be like left 4 dead. Players will be trying to off each other to get to the storm. There will even be players who will try to TK you.
There isn’t really any way to off other players other than a high speed PIT maneuver into a pole (which they’ll probably survive anyway). Vehicle-Vehicle damage is disabled to prevent trolling and Vehicle-Player damage is nonexistent.

@@Insym I have no doubt that real life storm chasers are pretty competitive when it comes to storm chasing. It’s all about being the first team on the scene, getting the best footage and pics of the storm/tornado/ect. And getting the best hotel rooms.

Probably not. It’s *very* GPU heavy
denitely not lol, a 4090 with a 13900k is already having problems and you think a hawk point level APU can run this? Also this is very CPU intensive more than GPU, the fact that Insym had to turn up cloud sampling to 1 second means that the calculation required to run the scenarios is no joke.
