Fiesta arches are great for keeping the job small. Some foam edge tape and fade out thinners will help you keep your painting to just the arch line, make life much easier for yourself. There will be plenty of tips and videos on here to show you how to do it mate. Keep up the good work and positive attitude 👍

glad it went well for ya Mark, great video mate, just a tip when you spray the arch only go minimal way up the quater because the further you go up the more you will tell if colour is slightly off, just go to arch line and when you put masking tape on the edge of arch line curl tape over so you dont have a suden paint edge and it will be easier to flat and polish after

Put tippex marks on the edges of the pulleys and old belt to mark its position before you take it off, crank and cams. Transfer the marks from the old belt onto the new exactly then when you put it back on you know you haven't slipped a tooth by putting it back on in exactly the same position as the old one. Glad you got it sorted though.
Try using pdr glue tabs where there's no paint damage like that crease, be a lot less work.

You had too much slack on the non tensioner side of the belt. It's always best to keep the belt as tight as you can on that side before releasing the tensioner. Should always turn engine over by hand re pin to double check your work before rebuilding everything. Saves you a headache.

It's good when folks like yourself show that things can and do go wrong when working on cars, and that not everything is a simple 5 minute job you can do yourself without having to pay an expert. You made a mistake, overcame that and have helped others learn along the way. Admire you for that 100% and enjoyed the quality and presentation :)

Hi Mark. All came good in the end with the engine.. phew. Bodywork repair will come good I'm sure.
Also hope the wiring for the door mirror is in situ and ready for connection 🤷‍♂. See you in the next one. 👍👍

Hi Mark, been watching your videos for a while now - nice work 🙂 I’ve done many zetec belts and had this once as I’d been cranking it without the coil pack plugged in. Once I realised and plugged it back in it was a pig to start. Maybe ecu shuts spark down idk. I never lock the fly wheel just cams and crank at the back. Cheers

Have you worked out where you went wrong. I reckon you did up the crank pulley before you released the tensioner. Then with a bit too much slack on the RH belt run (between cam pulley and crank pulley) when you took the crank pin and cam locks out, the tensioner took up the remaining slack and put it all a tooth out

    • @ResurwreckAutosUK

So what was the issue? After placing the new timing belt the car need to work for some while to get adopted to the new belt? Why is that?

Pure speculation, but I reckon that even when you sorted and confirm the timing it was the default ECU map that was causing it to not run. Do you recall if you tried revving it instead of leaving it at idle? Idling is the hardest stage to keep an engine running and whilst that's the job of the IACV its life is made much harder with a default ECU map that has yet to be refined through some driving. Revving can help bring the engine into a more stable phase and of course enable the map refinement routines to begin doing their thing. Frustrating for you, but entertaining and informative for us all. As you say, you learn by your mistakes, although I don't think it was your mistake here - at least after the first (mis)timing. Incidentally, I don't know if you do this but always do the manual twice-rotation and checking everything is still in time. Better to find out at that stage rather then after everything is back on the starter brought in!

Hi Mark. There was nothing wrong with your timing settings. The original no start was still present even after your mechanic friend had done his set up. The non starting you and him experienced was a red herring and probably caused by something dislodged / obstruction in air box etc. Had to persevered with a boost pack after you originally tried to start you would have got it going. IMAO
