    I firmly believe this is the best channel for kayak anything. I’m new to kayak fishing and have used many of the ideas on this channel, thanks many times over!

    I create a wooden insert and. use a t nut on the end.I drill a 5/16 whole, insert the t nut. I glue the wood insert in and it works perfectly.

      Great idea. You could also tap the threads and screw it down

    Hey Steve - I used this method to make a track adapter and then went on to make a transducer mount to fit it. Thanks for this channel! I've picked up some good ideas and advice here for sure.

    Great idea! I guess I need to go from my set inside Old Town Vapor 10 Angler to a set on top kayak so I can benefit from these cool accessories.

    Lowe’s sells a 1/4 X 20 drill tap bit. They work very well. Just an idea

      Yep. That's what you need. You could also go with 5/16 with a 5/16 T bolt. Those fit the utility track as well.

    I enjoy your hacks, but the one you make on how to say with your kayak if you fall out is imported. I use a 12ft line that pops out like a parachute. It can un-hook on both ends. This way we never leave each other.

    Great idea guys! If you don't have a tap here's another super easy yet effective method. Start with a 1/2" male threaded cap. Turn the open end of the cap up and place on a hard surface (flat or top side of cap down). Using a t-bolt from a 1/4" toilet bowl set, place the nut from the toilet bowl set on the open end of the cap and using a hammer gently tap the nut into the 1/2" cap until it hits bottom. You can use the toilet bolt as a guide if necessary to keep the nut straight. Just don't hammer too hard on the toilet bolt as you can strip the threads on the nut. The corners of the nut fits tight enough in the cap where it actually cuts into the PVC cap slightly and just enough so the nut doesn't spin which alleviates the need for self tapping and/or epoxy. Then you can use a 3/4" slip x 1/2" FPT adapter to accept a 3/4" pvc pipe. Project takes less than 5 minute (aside from painting of course).

    Hello, I made the epoxy gear track adaptor for the first time. It worked fantastic! I liked it so much I created 6 and they are very robust and looks great, thank you! I used the 3/4” bolt with the epoxy no other holes. Thank you! Do you have a cup holder hack?

    This can make my life waaayyyy better...I'd rather DIY then pay crazy money for attachments.
    The epoxy doesn't loosen or give a bit in the heat or after being used?

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not had an issue. However, you can double up. Use a longer T Bolt than needed and add a nut on top of the expoxy.

  • @billyclanton

    Just what I was looking for. What size pvc caps do you use?
    Thanks for your videos, I subscribed and working through your older vids to get caught up. 👍

      The size I use depends on how heavy the item to support is. I typically use 1/2, 3/4, or 1 inch caps. I use the 1 inch to support my camera... 1/2 for the mount for my stake out pole as examples.

    I didn't use epoxy to hold the T bolt in place. Here are my steps: Drilled the hole little bit smaller than the nut size that came with the bolt. Screwed the nut to the bolt until flushed. Used pliers to hold the T bolt with the nut at the other end and heated the nut for 1-2 minutes using a flame (stove). Pushed the heated nut gently in the hole. The heated nut melted the hole edge and the hole took the hexagonal shape of the nut. Poured cold water over it to cool everything down. No money spent on epoxy and tap.

    When the threads strip out of the plastic, which they eventually will especially if you move it around much, you can drill it out and put one of these in.
    www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-4-in-20-Zinc-Plated-Tee-Nut-4-Pack-802301/204274194
    to hold the T-nut in place you can add screws to it and it will be a permanent solution (see linked photo below) well until it rusts out :-)
    woodgears.ca/box_joint/t-nut_mount.jpg
    you can also buy the t-nuts with screw holes instead of the press in spikes.

    • @pmm422
      @pmm422 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should probably add that the way I have done this same thing is with the PVC board you can buy at home depot. I cut out a circle that fits inside the fitting and glue it in with pipe glue. I then drill out the hole and add the T-nut with screws no epoxy necessary. Maybe I'll do a video of it.

      I have a similar idea to yours Pat...using 1/4-20 thread inserts. I will say that I like the idea of combining a thread insert with an extra epoxy base to allow more surface for the thread insert to bite into.

    • @pmm422
      @pmm422 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kayplainsdrifter136 I agree the epoxy does add the necessary extra purchase.

    • @KayakhacksFishing

      Really simple - use any size PVC to match what you want to mount. You need a PVC plug, epoxy, and either a toilet bolt or a T-bolt.
