Your first video/review of the Amazon incubator really put me on track to have more success with incubating eggs and hatching chicks. My last batch last year had over 80% success. I was fortunate in the fall to find a used 42 egg hovabator with the turner for a very good price. I'll let you know how it works, and if I get better hatch rate with it.

I'm glad I could help. Yes please let me know. I've tried a neighbours hovabator, without rollers with little success. I found it had a time keeping the humidity up, and many could not get out of the shell. I know a few other people said the same thing. It's funny. The amazon was prone to too much humidity and the hovabator was prone to too little lol. I hope you have success with it.

My rooster is going to need to step up his game. lol He is not "doing his part" 🫤 I may need to find a replacement rooster, not too sure lol.

Make sure your Roo is getting 16 hours of light a day. Just like hens and their laying, the fertility of a rooster is also seasonal in nature, and if we want to breed early in the year (winter), they need supplemental light to have high sperm counts. @@PloughmansBackyard

@pseudopetrus Thank you for the tip! We had had issues with him all summer. None of the eggs we have hatch are fertile, we have never actually seen him on a hen. He will dance around them butt never seen him actually mate. Not sure why that is. I know when we got him, they said he was 2 years old. We have a mixture of 1-3 year hens.

Farmers encounter this problem from time to time, irregardless of what type of livestock they have. I wish I could help but the one cockerel that does not play a significant role in my breeding program; well I have already promised him to a back yard breeder. My other three males are booked solid, with my own stock and with another Partridge Chantecler breeder who is having the same problem you have. This is why we start breeding so early, really test breeding. I have two outstanding HC line cockerels, and one JP line Grand Champion at the Canadian Nationals who has fans in a number for provinces. One of the Hickorycroft line cockerels was reserve at the Canadian Nationals and some say he should have been the Grand Champion because he shows more mahogany, that deep rich red colour in the hackle and saddle. I leave it to the judges. I have 3 lines of P Chanteclers on the go, I have genetics from the best of Ontario and Alberta, so keep in touch if you want stock.@@PloughmansBackyard

Oh for sure!! Definitely! We will be looking at purchasing a cockerel. We had no luck with him this summer or even into the winter months. I seen JP's post on facebook about the Canadian Nationals. That is amazing! Awesome job! You must have an amazing line as well. I have never really seen this issue before in our flocks. Kind of sad because I really love his markings. Thanks for your help @pseudopetrus, you are a wealth of info 🙂
