Just a reminder, just because something is listed for a certain price on eBay (for example) does not mean it’s worth that much. Ebay has a “sold” feature where you can see how much said product has sold for, if it even sold at all! Something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it! In the end, it’s worth pricing your piece a bit lower than what everyone else lists it for and losing out on 10% compared to the item sitting in your house for months or even years just waiting to be sold and shipped (trust me). Happy hunting!
So important! You want to be sure something fits. I was trying to find shelves for over a kitchen counter for some storage jars for pasta and rice etc that were going to double as decoration, and one shop (as in, an actual furniture store, a chain store even) did not include the measurements of their shelves. Just the outside size of the box they came in (the box was obviously bigger than the shelf, due to wrapping inside the box, and of course the cardboard itself). Which was WILD to me. Like, how do you own a store like this and not include the sizes of furniture? That seems like the bare minimum honestly. I didn't buy from them due to that. I feel like many stores include way too little information on their products. I also needed to know how much weight those shelves could take, which is slightly less obvious information than size, but still pretty important for things like shelves I would think. Jars are pretty heavy, and so are books, but many shelves were really only meant for lightweight decoration. In the end I did find the shelves I needed, but it was a journey.
Super cool video! Just want to mention that styling the table top might give an impression that you’re hiding a stain or something… so always include a pic of the full top. (ALL my furniture is from fb marketplace so I say this as a professional 😆)
for pleather you can further smooth ridges with acetone since it melts the plastic a little. It prevents further peatling and months it. You could also refill the patches and use other pleather to give the correct texture. There was more to do that could increase resell profit
I think it might be cool for people to stop commenting on the eyebrows! It's never nice to feel picked apart based on physical appearance on the regular, regardless of whether it's positive or negative! 💜

Little tip about that style of skates (that not a ton of people know about): The little knob on the toe of the skate is essentially a brake. It’s called a “toe stop.” So if you are rolling all over the place and can’t stop, stand on that and it’ll stop you. My sister has played roller derby for around 20 years and taught me how to skate in them. The more you know! Tiny tip: If you plan on using it to stop you, do it with pads on until you’re used to it. Doesn’t take much effort to make you also fall flat on your face.
THANK YOU for reminding everyone to include measurements on furniture pieces!!! I’ve been on the hunt for a cabinet/wardrobe to repurpose as a cabinet to conceal my electrical panel & I can’t believe how many are listed without measurements 😩 Great finds & I miss roller skating days…because I’m 53 and did it ALL THE TIME as a kid/teen!!! 😜
But you’re in Poland and Japan!!! There’s soooooo many cool Things there! You just gotta go to Netherlands / Holland when you’re in Poland and go on their King’s Day (I think it’s called) where they have a huge garage sale holiday!
Im very surprised those chairs sold for more than the side table.. in my mind those are old dungy school chairs that I now see in old community halls that would probably go for $5 most (even with the red paint) but i guess that goes to show who your market is (a city like Ontario might see them as uniquely vintage, whereas my small town would see them as cheap old chairs lol)
Some really great tips!! Thank you ❤ I loved this episode. It was cool seeing you hunt at garage sales and then update them in the same video!! Streamlined and an easy watch!
Styling is super helpful for visual folks in terms of understanding the scale of the item. Dimensions are necessary too, but for people clicking through looking at similar items, styled photos helps them narrow their search faster.
These were all awesome flips. Can’t say if I liked the completed bar kit or the nightstand more. That washing technique, I just maybe have to try it lol
I make sure that I remember to bring a water bottle and have a snack available if I need it and hand sanitizer.. sometimes your around items that are dusty..
I gotta be honest, I think that just grabbing things from a garage sale and listing directly on eBay is pretty gross. DIYs that took effort are one thing, but simply relisting at a higher price isn’t adding value, it’s just preventing someone else from getting it at the lower cost.
Yeah, and sure, charity, whatever, but they are actively encouraging people to replicate this to their own benefit. It's not ok. If I'm selling something cheaply because I want someone to be able to enjoy it, I don't want to see it being resold for 40 times my asking price. It's gross. They're either taking advantage of someone's naiveté or lack of knowledge about what their items are worth or they are taking advantage of their good faith. These actions take away from the community.
Ugh thank you, i looked for this comment because the other day i saw a whole debate over the series girl boss where she buys second hand clothes cheap that she knows have value and sells them pricier.
Absolutely agree. I'm often unsettled by this series, I don't like the idea of buying something to flip for profit when someone might benefit from the piece at the cheap price just because they need the thing. Restoring things is one thing but buying perfectly good stuff for the purpose of reselling it is icky
Thank you for this comment. I’ve loved Project Profit from the start because they’ve been adding in their own expertise and handiwork to flip the pieces but I think buying something and outright selling it was icky - charity or not. This is the reason why we can’t find anything good at the thrift stores anymore and why resale stores have upped their prices. All the re-sellers. It’s just taking it away from someone who could only afford it at the discounted price :( it’s not something I feel like we should be promoting..
Personally I think there is some value to hunting for these items, cleaning them, refurbishing if necessary and then reselling them to a wider market. Nothing is stopping the people that donated these items or are selling them at garage sales/thrifts from doing the same. If they don't put the effort in researching what they actually have or trying to resell, then no wonder other people are going to come in and try and do it. Totally fair in my book.
I feel like "collectibles" are really subjective and not a reliable thing to flip. Of course there could be people looking for specific coin collections or old beanie babies, but a lot of that stuff can be really hard to sell. Maybe it works better in Toronto and the GTA, but even electronics don't sell well where I live.
If you use bleach (or preferably oxalic acid) you need to rinse with water after, before staining etc, otherwise it keeps on eating into the wood fibers and weakens it. Just a tip!
At this point these people are just as bad as the NFT bros. Making the second hand market into a fucking bubble, inflating and inflating prices just for profit, while driving the people from the community out of the market because suddenly it's a luxury.
For real. Especially encouraging people to buy items that are “undervalued” to resell with no modification. If you put in labor and materials to upcycle, that’s one thing but pure resale is so gross.
I love the flipped side table! While the original was in fine condition, the color definitely dated the piece and would limit the number of potential buyers This is how you flip furniture!
Love this so much! This video would be more accessible to me if it had real English captions that aren’t auto-generated. I hope that can be added to your goals for the channel.
Unfortunately, videos like this and that fixer upper show have RUINED secondhand shopping in Waco Tx..at least for actual poor people. I can’t afford anything at a thrift store anymore.
Am I the only one who feels sad for the people that I buy from that don’t know how easy it is to flip and make a profit. I never ask for less amount if I know what they are really worth
Me too, I don't like that she is bragging about bartering for a lower cost when many people are currently struggling with not having money. I know this is far charity, but screwing over the original owner when you think you can sell it for a huge profit just seems mean
I agree. Their (because let's remember there's a WHOLE TEAM behind this that could have raised concerns at any point) attitude about it was absolutely terrible. Pressing for an extra 5-10$ when they're looking at selling for hundreds... And then encouraging people to do the same. So out of touch.
yeah, i don't like that this is basically a guide for reselling. It's one thing to refurbish and sell broken/damaged things but this feels icky. People with lower incomes depend on second hand items and stuff like this floods the market with vultures that raise the prizes until they are no longer attainable for those that need it most. It's giving gentrification. not cool.
Hard agree. The light switches were especially shady, and bartering people down just to report a higher profit for your tax deductible charity donation is not a good look, even if you put effort into the refinish.
There are new products being created everyday. There will never be a shortage of second hand products. Another way to look at this people with lower income can resell to supplement their income.
@@Bev-ish I guess I see overproduction as a separate issue. I more see this as contributing to the inflation we’ve seen at thrift stores over the last 10 years or so due to reselling. It’s true that there will always be second hand stuff, but there won’t always be good prices, and I think this contributes to that problem.
