Morning, Juliane. Try not to beat yourself up too bad. Do what you need to do for yourself. Word of caution: I know you want to help with Uncle Johnny's. I figured you would. You might check with them to see when they need the help. Some areas are discouraging outside helpers right now. They're into rescue and recovery mode. They're concerned about use of resources such as food, water and other supplies which are so needed by the community. Plus some areas are not safe to travel to and around. You might be able to contact them from Vermont. I love the way you talk to yourself through talking to us. Glad your trail angel came back for you. Am sure he understood why you were late. I agree, the Pinhoti is a beautiful trail. You'll find the Benton MacKay trail is also. I watched Hawk hike it earlier this year. Take care, Juliane. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

You crack me up! I laugh out loud and my wife asks if I’m watching that German girl, and , of course I am.
“I’m on vacation” and “I’m beating myself up a bit” …… that’s quite a dichotomy you got going on there.
Concerning going to help on the AT … so proud of you!

Don’t worry about staying in a hotel! Live your life and enjoy!
Also…yay!!! So glad you are moving back up this way! I do believe your home is somewhere on the AT - I think helping to restore the AT (however that works out) is going to end up leading you to your new place/life! Helping others ALWAYS helps me work through my own stuff! So excited for you RR! 🙏🏻❤️🤗

They wet the logs to keep down sawdust from the sawmill and it keeps the wood softer.

You are such a caring person!
I'm sure you'll figure out a way to help, even if it's not in person.
But, don't forget to take care of yourself too, hun. You matter too 💙

I am so enjoying your videos. My friends and I are section hiking the Pinhoti. We will be in GA hiking in October and November. I hope to see you on trail.
My daddy was a cotton farmer in MS and we called cotton “White Gold”.

Helping is a kind gesture and shows you are a really good person. No one doubts your desire but right now they don’t need lots of outside people trying to help as resources for even the residents are difficult or not impossible to find. Having to support volunteers too would be even worse. The people who are coming in are self-supported or supported by Government. Once they get the basics back like power and water then you can jump in and help as cleanup wil be months if not years . In there Western NC area that will be at least a month maybe longer just to get power. Things are not just damaged, they’re GONE, washed away. Massive amounts of huge trees on things and the AT is washed away. Steep slopes had landslides. It is BAD. Enjoy the time with your Mom, take some hikes in VT, maybe get over to see Taylor in New Hampshire.
Spraying the water is to keep the logs from self combustion, the heat builds up in the stacks and they can catch on fire. You ask good questions!

When I rode horses I had a big tall horse so no matter where I was in the trail line of horses I got spiders. May I suggest you do a trail on horseback camping along the way. That would be fun.

So interested to hear you are coming to Vermont. We live just outside of Montpelier and have been following you for a long time! Would love to know if you are ever in the area.

I related so much. Nothing makes me angry with myself more than making someone else wait for me. I’m glad it all worked out but 🤬 it’s frustrating. I know because I hate waiting for people as well lol. I do offer a lot of grace because my friends are all constantly late and make me wait. I am part German, so perhaps that has something to do with it 🇩🇪

My heart was saying you would do that for the AT I’m glad your heart is calling you to help ❤️ here’s an idea you could also write Sawyer filtration and ask if they could donate and send you some to pass out to the locals while you’re helping hostels clean up just a crazy thought. I can’t help but think about all those people who lost everything and have nothing and no fresh water.

Dan Becker made a video for Sawyer. They are already donating up to 10,000 filters for those hit by Hurricane Helene. He tells you how to reach them.

It's illegal for anyone to grow cotton without having a permit due to Weevils

    • @bigdog2024
      @bigdog2024 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

It’s illegal to grow as a hobby in your yard/garden. That’s to prevent the spread of boll weevils which has taken a very very long time to almost eradicate. Commercial growing requires a permit so the state knows what is planted but they also know commercial farms will do their best to be boll weevil free.
For RR’s education-The “boll” is the part that makes the cotton, before you see that white puffy stuff it looks like a tulip bulb and the weevils eat that so it then won’t make cotton. Fun fact, cotton and okra are members of the same plant family. The town in TX where I live used to be the #1 cotton producing city in the USA prior to the Civil War and there have been several famous movies filmed here including Places in the Heart.
